Recollections of the Other History of Independence of Malaysia: 63rd Anniversary of the Formation of Regimen-10 (Tentera Pembebasan Nasional Malaya)

REJIMEN KE-10 TPNM

Saya ditugaskan untuk me! nggantik an Kamarulzaman memimpin pasukan di Temerloh.
Abdullah C.D.

  • Komisar Politik Abdullah CD
  • Panglima Wahi Anuar
  • Pegawai Politik Musa Ahmad
Sebelum Rejimen Ke-10 didirikan, PKM telah! mendiri kan  Ke-9 rejimen TPNM, asasnya ialah 8 Rejimen Pasukan Tentera Anti-Jepun Rakyat Malaya yang dibubarkan apabila tamat Perang Dunia Kedua.

Ke-9 Rejimen TPNM tersebut didirikan semula setelah penjajah British mengisytiharkan Undang-Undang Darurat pada pertengahan Jun 1948
.

EMPAT ASAS DISIPLIN

1. Segala tindakan patuh kepada perintah;
2. Tidak mengambil sebatang jarum atau seutas benang pun dari massa;
3. Sebarang rampasan perang harus dirasmikan;
4. Dengan ketat menyimpan rahsia tentera.

SEPULUH FASAL PERHATIAN

1. Pertuturan hendaklah ramah tamah;
2. Berjual beli harus adil;
3. Barang-barang yang dipinjam harus dikembalikan;
4. Ganti kerugian barang-barang yang dirosakkan;
5. Rumah-rumah yang ditumpangi harus dibersihkan;
6. Menghormati adat resam;
7. Jangan memukul atau memaki orang;
8. Jangan merosaki tanaman;
9. Jangan berlaku tidak senonoh terhadap wanita;
10. Jangan menganiayai tawanan perang.

Najib must appear in French court or else…

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will be subpoenaed to appear before the French court to give evidence in a corruption case involved in the purchase of the Scorpene submarines.

According to Suaram lawyer, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, who recently returned from France where they met the judge who is going to preside the hearing of the corruption case in which RM500 million was allegedly paid as commission to Perimekar, the French court has the power to subpoena Najib to testify.

A subpoena will be also issued to Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Abdul Razak Baginda to appear before the French court, she said.

Perimekar was at the time wholly owned by Razak and his wife Mazalinda.

"When we met the judge on March 16, 2012 we supplied the list of witnesses who are to be subpoenaed to give evidence before the court.

"We gave him the names of Najib Tun Razak, Zahid Hamidi and Razak Baginda," Fadiah said to the applause of more than 2,000 at a "ceramah" at the Third Mile Bazaar, Kuching, on Sunday night.

When the case was filed in court in France two years ago, Zahid said that he could go to France to give statement and would give his cooperation.

But lately he said that he did not want to go due to lack of funds and asked who would pay for his flight and his stay in France.

According to Fadiah, Malaysians are prepared to pay for his flight and stay in France as long as he is prepared to give evidence.

"Why should you be afraid if you have nothing to hide?" she asked.

'Najib can be arrested'

Fadiah said that in this corruption case the French court has the power to hand over subpoena to the witnesses and to ask them to be present at the court to give evidence.

"If they fail to atte! nd the s ubpoena that has been issued by the French court, they will be given notice again to be present to give statement.

"Again if they fail to be present, the French court will issue a warrant of arrest to force them to be present and give statements and to prove the truth that we are seeking for.

"And if they fail again, Interpol (International Police) can issue an alert and they can be arrested and dragged to the French court," she said.

The delegation also met their French lawyers who showed them 153 documents which the French police had complied after two years of investigations.

"Those documents shown to us are enough evidence to show the government of Malaysia was involved in the payment of illegal commission that was received by Perimekar," she alleged.

"When we looked into the evidence we found out so many payments have been made and this corruption case is much bigger than what we have thought," she said, including the US$ 1 billion (RM3 billion) to be paid as conditions before the discussions on the purchase of the submarines could take place.

Fadiah said that they had to go to France to open the case to seek the truth as the courts in Malaysia are not independent as they (the courts) are used by the government as tools and the people have no voice to demand for truth.

"We cannot get justice and fairness because the government is so much involved in corruption and also because of the Official Secrets Act.

"But this is our money, the people's money. We want to know how is our money spent.

"How much is being used? How much is the corrupted money going into the pockets of ministers and their cronies?" she asked, calling on the people to stand up and be with them.

"Let us find the truth and the truth will be out soon.

"Let us pray that the subpoena will be issued soon so that they can be dragged to court to give their statements," she said.-FMT

Scorpene case: French lawyers apply for work visa

ops scorpene dinner 220711 cynthia gabrielFrench lawyers representing Suaram in the human rights group's suit against defence giant DCNS for alleged corruption involving top Malaysian officials will be coming to the country to brief their client on the case.
According to Suaram director Cynthia Gabriel (left), either Joseph Brehem or William Bourdon plan to visit next week to discuss the case involving the RM7.3 billion purchase of two Scorpene-classs submarines by Malaysia in 2002.

The controversial case, which involved the alleged payment of illegal commissions amounting to 114 million euro (RM540 million), was recently heard and accepted by investigative judge Roger Le Loire in the Paris Tribunal Grande Instance.

"However, it all depends on whether they are able to enter the country," Gabriel told Malaysiakini in a telephone interview.

"After all, Bourdon was detained at the KL International Airport last year and deported, after he spoke at a closed-door dinner in Penang," Gabriel recalled.

Alternative plan

The Immigration Department had then said that Bourdon - attached to Sherpa, a Paris-based non-profit legal outfit - was deported on July 22 last year for violating the conditions of his visit to Malaysia.

NONEBourdon (left) denied that he had abused his entry permit as he entered the country on a social visit pass.

This time, Gabriel said the lawyers are applying for a working visa to enter Malaysia despite the immigration requirement that they only require a social visit pass.

The French lawyer who comes, she added, also plans to hold a press conference in Kuala Lumpur to provide an update on the case - if he is allowed to enter the country.

While Gabriel is optimistic about the visit, she said Suaram has an alternative plan should the lawyer be barred from entering the country.

"We might have to go to them instead, but we are hopeful that the Malaysian authorities will grant them their working visa," she said.

"After all, they are here to meet their client, and we have the right to meet them. There is nothing wrong in this," she added.

Press conference cancelled

Suaram had planned a press conference at its Kuala Lumpur office today, but it was put off due to "technical matters".

NONEFrench court papers recently revealed that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who was defence minister then, had sought US$ 1 billion (RM3 billion) for local company Perimekar from DCN's subsidiary DCNI.

Perimekar is owned by Najib's associate Abdul Razak Baginda, who was acquitted on a charge of abetting in the 2006 murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu without his defence being called.

Najib (right) has refused to comment but had denied involvement in the case, while Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he cannot be summoned to attend the hearing in Paris, reversing his previous o! ffer to testify as a witness.- malaysiakini

Benarkah Najib Letak Pisau Dileher Rosmah?

MAFTA: Demokrasi Malaysia Dikorbankan Demi Perdagangan Bebas?

KENYATAAN MEDIA
22 Mei 2012
UNTUK SEBARAN SEGERA

Perjanjian Perdagangan Bebas Malaysia-Australia (MAFTA):
Demokrasi Malaysia Dikorbankan Demi Perdagangan Bebas?

  • wujudnya kebebasan media demi keperluan maklumat yang tepat dan telus untuk memudahkan urusan perdagangan bebas;
  • wujudnya pilihanraya bebas dan adil agar kerajaan Australia dapat berurusan secara rasmi dengan sebuah kerajaan Malaysia yang 'sah' demi melaksankan terma-terma perjanjian ini;

Nurul Izzah Anwar
Ahli Parlimen  Lembah Pantai
dan Naib Presiden Parti KEADILAN Rakyat

Zaid: No hudud even if PAS wins more seats than PKR, DAP

KUALA LUMPUR: Kita president Zaid Ibrahim ruled out the possibility that hudud law would be being implemented once Pakatan Rakyat comes to power.

"The Pakatan Rakyat Common Policy Framework did not include hudud in its provision," said Zaid.

He said this after launching his third book, "Ampun Tuanku: A Brief Guide to Constituional Government" at the Royal Lake Club here today.

The book was published by ZI Publications.

On May 12, Pas Ulama Council chief Harun Taib said the party would implement hudud law if the party wins more seats in Parliament than its allies in Pakatan.

However, top Pakatan leaders including PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the opposition pact was committed to its Common Policy Framework, which does not include hudud.

"Any move to introduce hudud will require the consensus of all three parties in Pakatan," Hadi said.

Commenting on Hadi's statement, Zaid, who is also the architect of the common policy, said PAS would not implement hudud even if it has more parliamentary seats than DAP and PKR.

"I believe PAS will not do it," he said.

On another matter, Zaid urged the government to set up a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to probe the violence that erupted during the Bersih 3.0 rally.

He said the independent panel set up by the government lacked the legal framework to do substantial investigation.

"Set up a royal commission of inquiry as it will have the powers to call witnesses and ask for evidence," he said.

On April 28, scores of protesters and journalists were assaulted during the mammoth Bersih 3.0 rally.

The government later established an independent panel, headed by former Inspector-General of Police Haniff Omar, to probe the violence.

However, many quarters have cast doubts over the panel's impartiality, saying Hanif had earlier called some of the rally participants communist sympathisers.

Unwise to charge PKR leaders, says Zaid

KUALA LUMPUR: Kita president Zaid Ibrahim said that it was not a good idea to charge opposition leaders with the general election around the corner.

Speaking after the launch of his third book, "Ampun Tuanku: A Brief Guide to Constitutional Government" at the Royal Lake Club here today, he also said the move could backfire on Barisan Nasional.

"Besides, I think it's just a minor offence," said the former law minister.

This morning, PKR leaders Anwar ibrahim, Azmin Ali and Badrul Hisham Shaharin were charged at the Sessions Court under the Peaceful Assembly Act for their participation in the Bersih 3.0 rally.

If convicted, the trio could a face a fine up to RM10,000 which would disqualify elected representatives from their posts.

Meanwhile, Zaid also said it was unwise for the Kuala Lumpur Petty Traders Action Council to set up a night market outside Bersih 3.0 chairperson S Ambiga's house come Thursday and Friday.

In his view, he said that the people must assemble for the right reasons and not just because they disliked an individual or a personality.

"You must assemble for the right reasons, for example, voicing out against soaring prices of goods.

"Besides, Ambiga is not a dangerous person," said Zaid.

Kuala Lumpur Petty Traders Action Council chairman Jamal Md Yunus said that he would hold a night market outside Ambiga's house on Thursday and Friday, claiming traders had lost tens of thousands in profits due to the Bersih 3.0 rally.

Jamal insisted on setting up about 60 stalls despite his permit application being rejected by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) today.

Tunku Aziz saga an invaluable lesson for DAP

GEORGE TOWN: It's time for the DAP leadership to take pro-active steps to identify and develop Malay leaders from the party rank and file, a Malay-based local NGO said today.

Penang Malays Congress (PMC) president Rahmad Isahak said the Tunku Aziz Tunku Ibrahim saga was a lesson to the party that it should never pluck just anybody and thrust him into the limelight.

Saying that one should never try to build a house from the roof down, he said DAP should know by now that it should groom potential Malay talent from the grassroots

He said it was imperative for DAP, as the ruling party of Penang, to allow grassroots members, not persons like Tunku Aziz, to emerge as the party's Malay leaders.

He said that many Malays became aware of Tunku Aziz only last week and some did not even know that he was a DAP senator under its Penang quota.

"It reflects Tunku Aziz's quite contributions to the party and the Malay community, especially in Penang," said Rahmad.

He added that it was time DAP gave prominence to Malay grassroots leaders and to forge a strong Malay leadership in the party.

He said that the DAP's failure to groom new Malay leaders since 2008 was a major reason behind the latter's suspicion of the party.

He said DAP should work hard to shed the widespread perception that it was a Chinese chauvinist party.

He said DAP cannot afford to let its Pakatan Rakyat partners, PKR or PAS, be in charge of Malay affairs in Penang as "both parties failed to seize the initiative the past four years."

He added that the DAP's hopes for Tunku Aziz to emerge as the party's Malay leadership face has also fallen flat.

Being the ruling party, he said DAP must show to the people of Penang that it was a multi-racial party to safeguard the interest and rights of all ethnic groups.

"DAP cannot leave to other parties to do it. It must take the lead. It must unearth local talents to lead the Malays in the party and state," said Rahmad.

He said one way to do this was to field at least five 'home-grown' Malay candidates to contest one federal and four state seats in Penang in the next general election.

He said it would take the sting out of Umno if DAP were to field strong Malay candidates.

"Umno's propaganda that the DAP is for Chinese would not have listeners. But if the DAP continues to sideline the pressing Malay leadership agenda, the Malay community would continue to be suspicious of the party," warned Rahmad.

Anwar’s prosecutor gives govt a black eye

KUALA LUMPUR: In an unexpected twist, the opposition has scored a major victory by securing the services of former solicitor-general II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden.

Yusof was the lead prosecutor in Anwar's Sodomy II trial, which the opposition leader had claimed was a political conspiracy against him.

Now Yusof's decision to join the defence team representing Anwar and two other PKR leaders on charges pertaining to the Bersih 3.0 rally would further strengthen the perception that the sodomy accusation was crafted with political motives.

His presence at the Sessions Court here this morning sent murmurs of excitement throughout the packed courtoom.

Speaking to reporters later, Yusof said Anwar had contacted him and the former had no qualms taking up the case.

"He (Anwar) called me last night and I had no hesitation. I'm just a counsel, everyone is entitled to one. I have no political affiliations. I'm a working professional… a free agent," he said.

Asked if he was doing this to go against Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, with whom he was rumoured to have strained relations with, Yusof said he had nothing personal against the latter.

'Soon even the AG would join me'

Earlier, Anwar said Yusof's decision to be part of the defence team should not come as a surprise and quipped that soon even the AG might join him.

"What's the issue? He understands the law… I thank Yusof for his readiness to be part of the defence team. I contacted him after receiving information that he was 'ready' to join us. This is a great development and means a lot.

"It shows that those within the government know about the dirtiness that happens and are not prepared to defend all of it. If he really thinks I'm guilty, he would not be with us.

"He was the second in command in the AG's chambers, some say he should be the AG, now he chooses to be with us," he added.

Anwar stressed that Yusof was not here just to make up numbers and had "came to make sure I get the justice I deserve."

Meanwhile, the defence team's lead counsel Karpal Singh said that Yusof's switch was a blow to the government.

Anwar, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and supreme council member Badrul Hisham Saharin were charged with breaching the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and taking part in a "street protest".

They also face a second charge for going against an order by a public servant. All three claimed trial to the charges.

Penang port sale a disaster, says DAP

GEORGE TOWN: The sale of Penang port to tycoon Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary last December spelt economic disaster for Penang, DAP said today.

Liew Chin Tong, the MP for Bukit Bendera, lamented that Penang's projected growth into a vibrant regional economic hub would now be thwarted.

This was the reason behind the state government's bid to buy the port last year, he told newsmen here.

"The state government wanted to prevent a potential economic disaster to the state," he said. The state failed in this bid when the federal government decided to sell the port to Syed Mokhtar.

Penang port was the biggest port in the region until 1933, when it was outpaced by the Singapore port.

Until the 1950s, Penang port was bigger than Port Klang. Johor did not have any port then. But now Syed Mokhtar wants to use Penang port as a feeder port for his Port Tanjung Pelepas in Johor.

Liew said it would be a great tragedy for Penang to see the port degenerate into a private feeder port for another private port.

Liew and his DAP colleague, Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, have been trying to find out from Barisan Nasional what was happening to the proposal to give free port status to Penang. They have spoken privately to state BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow, and posed questions for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to answer in Parliament.

They hope to hear Najib's reply at the next sitting of the Dewan Rakyat, scheduled to begin on June 11.

The free port proposal is in BN's blueprint for Penang and will be acted upon only if the coalition regains the state in the next election. Teng has said Penang BN would take pro-active steps to restore the state's free port status if it were to take over the government.

Penang was a free port until 1965, when the government began to remove that status in phases, completing the exercise in 1969.

Liew said BN should explain the economic viability of reinstating the free port status, including the number of jobs that would be created.

According to the 1964 Penang Master Plan, some 25,000 workers were dependant on free port status then.

"But that would not be the case now," said Liew, noting that most jobs done manually by port workers in 1964 had been mechanised.

Anak mahu inkuiri Suhakam isu saham FGVH

"Mereka (BN) terdesak nak cari duit saja sedangkan kepentingan peneroka tergadai," katanya.

‘Why the secrecy over trade talks’

PETALING JAYA: PKR has attacked the government for keeping quiet over Malaysia's free-trade-agreement (FTA) talks with Australia.

Its vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said that most Malaysian citizens was not privy to the trade talks between the two countries, which had been ongoing for seven years.

"This exclusion from discussions, debates or any other form of participation…(and) parliamentary ratification denies the public their right to…scrutiny of international treaties and agreements…which could affect national interests and sovereignty," she said in a press statement.

She said that the government was free to sign agreements without parliament's approval, though Nurul questioned Malaysia's "secrecy" on the matter.

Earlier today, Malaysia signed an FTA with Australia, terming it as the Malaysian-Australian Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA).

The FTA is Malaysia's sixth, following after countries like Japan, Chile and New Zealand.

Among its purported benefits include the removal of tariffs for all Malaysian exports to Australia and for most goods from there heading here, which will come into effect on Jan 1 next year.

Other Australian goods such as automotive vehicles, fruits, and steel and iron products will have their tariffs "progressively liberalised" and eventually removed by the year 2020.

Another matter that Nurul raised concerned the controversial Australian-based Lynas rare earth plant near Kuantan, which will see operations commence later this year.

The question of the plant's purportedly hazardous refined waste was foremost in her mind.

She asked: "[Will] Australia, under MAFTA, accept the export of waste and by-products as a result of processed rare earth materials from Lynas which can be designated as a 'trade product'."

Nurul also queried if Australia would comply with MAFTA's anti-corruption rules, and in turn make Lynas disclose any "forms of corruption" if any in setting up its plant in Malaysia.

In a press conference earlier today, Australian Minister for Trade and Cooperatives claimed that the question of Lynas had no effect on FTA talks between the two countries.

Malaysia General Election: Will there be a 13 GE?

I had posted an article in 2010 that He will win solidly if GE 13 is called any month within that year and I still hold my believe till the eve of Bersih 3.0. Even with His statement of 'crushed bodies & lost lives' and rumors that His special team reporting to Him that He may lose the 13 GE, I still believe He will win solidly.

But everything seems to fall into place post Bersih 3.0 indicating that He is indeed fearful of losing the 13 GE.

Surveys after surveys giving the same results that His popularity is gaining traction and many voters are returning to His stable. This is true but what we understand is that most surveys were carried out via telephone. I still accept the results and reading from political expert opinion I believe He will win solidly and that is up till the eve of Bersih 3.0

A Fluid Situation

I stop wasting my time on twitter after seeing how those cybertroopers armchair critics can spin, distort and lie to get into His good book and strongly supported by the MSM, even crowning them as 'sensational twitterer'.

When and where do you go to get the most accurate political survey? Let me tell you where I went. Pasar malam (night markets) and early morning wet markets, these are the people who are seldom interested in politics but still are aware whats happening around them.

Talking to them face to face can somehow tell you what were inside their minds even if they lied. Of course not all those you approached are willing to share their political views but you still get a decent 6 out of 10 people willing.

It is true that He is gaining popularity and the various surveys confirmed that. It is also true that those who voted the opposition in 308 are now considering voting Him. But, there are also those who voted the ruling government in 308 that! will no t be voting them again.

Generally, most were taken in by His disbursement of CASH but many do not believe or understand His never-ending alphabet soup – GTP, ETP, PTP, NEM, NKEA, NKRA, NEAC, EPP,....Sadly for Him He can't contest in every seats in the country and majority of the voters are waiting to see who their candidates will be in their respective constituency before deciding which party to vote.

So, by being popular individually with a high of 69% may reap in a few extra votes and this conclude that He is a few points ahead but the overall situation is fluid. I believe that this fluidness is the cause of concern for Him and interpreted by His special team as 'may lose'.

Creating And Finding Excuses To Avoid GE 13?

The only way to call off GE 13 is when the country is in turmoil!

Is He planning to avoid GE 13 in as early as 2010 when calling for 'crushed bodies and lost lives'? Initially my thought was that He was just instilling fear but subsequent happenings that followed indicated that not only fear but a message to carry it out when necessary.

Later on, His speech with racial tone at Pekida to rile up more Malay support and His silence over Perkasa and MSM, especially Utusan irresponsible racist and religious reports and statements.

While He kept silence, on the ground, gangsterism & hooliganism provocations were at work with the latest report of riot at Merlimau. All these are to create tension among the rakyat and they are just waiting for the rakyat to get impatient and retaliate back when all hell will break loose. Luckily the rakyat are not responding back physically but waiting patiently to vent their anger at the ballot box, is He willing to let this happen?

One salvo after another to get the rakyat to response to their gangsterism & hooliganism provocations but  to their dismay the rakyat are smart enough.

The best opportunity came when Bersih 3.0 was held. There is no! reason to stop Bersih from holding the rally at Dataran Merdeka but they went ahead to get the court order banning anyone from entering. WHY?

The chaos that ensued after 3pm that day is now under investigation. The statement from various authorities were that 'rioters' breached the barricade and they are doing a great job to contain the 'rioters'. But if you were there on that day or reading from other reliable news reports and those who wrote their experiences facing the tear gas and water cannon, journalists attacked and the way they rampaged through the city trying to catch as many as possible, you will realised that the authorities claim were incomplete.

The way they handled the supposedly called rioters who breached the barricade was indeed trying to create more chaos. I could not leave after the rally when the LRT stations were closed, no buses and taxis. I call it an 'entrapment'. You can read my Bersih 3.0 story here.

The best opportunity they had was Bersih 3.0 but failed again because the rakyat do not have any intention at all to start a riot nor overthrowing the government.

Seeing that failure they changed their script with ex IGPs claiming of communist presence and mimicking His statement that Bersih 3.0 rally was trying to overthrow the government. The bombarding and demonisation campaign against Bersih 3.0 continue till today while His people are hard at work trying to link all sorts of bad things that Bersih 3.0 were, in order to find it guilty and getting the rakyat to hate and reject it.

Next, He tried using His party anniversary to show He can gather a bigger crowd but failed yet again. Now He has no choice but to target individuals. Ambiga is now being harassed, opposition leader Anwar charged together with Azmin and Badrul hoping that their supporters will rise in anger. We can expect more gangsterism & hooliganism provocations and He will continue ! to remai n silent.

Lastly, do you see what He meant when He compared the coca cola secret recipe in not revealing the polling date? Coca cola recipe has been kept secret for over a century and will never be revealed. Is He trying to hint that GE 13 will never happened?

Whatever He may try to do, the rakyat must remain calm and not retaliate to whatever provocation physically. Be patient, just leave the scene of any provocation, nobody is calling you a coward. We only have less than a year when the 5 years term is up and if we remain tolerant and ride through their gangsterism & hooliganism provocations He will have no choice but to dissolve parliament and call for GE 13.

The one/two million youth gathering in Putrajaya

My son told me last week that his school principal announced during school assembly that all students are encouraged to attend the "One/Two Million" gathering of youths in Putrajaya. The students will be given points for their co-curriculum classes.

There are six or seven primary and five or six secondary schools in Putrajaya (on my last count). Each school population is between 600 and 750 students. If all the school principals are UMNO members then there will be 6600 to 9750 students. For the sake of this argument let's round it off to 10,000 students who will be encouraged to attend the mammoth gathering.

The event begins on Wednesday May 23, and ends on Sunday May 27. There are about 200,000 to 250,000 people working in all the government ministries who will be driving, taking the buses, riding and walking to their offices in the three working days.

For the sake of this argument let's round it off to 750,000 people who will be counted as attendees. The population of Putrajaya is about 300,000 minus parents who have counted as government employees which will leave 200,000 family members who will join in the event for five days who will total 1,000,000 and this make up the grand  total of 1,760,000 people attending this mother of all events prior to the GE13. There will be close to two million people if they include other Malaysians who would attend anything just for the fun of it.

The organisers should seriously think about asking, inviting, encouraging and maybe forcing all the rich UMNO supporters, MPs, ADUNs, ministers, senators and their wives, girlfriends, mistresses and children to come to make up the two million people instead of just counting on the ordinary rakyat and their children to come out to party for five days and five nights.

Shame on you UMNO! It's bad enough you misled your president but it's worse that you lie to the children about what will be given points as part of school activities.

Anwar charged: Najib is afraid to face me in elections!
KUALA LUMPUR- Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was charged on Tuesday for his part in a rally for fair elections last month, in a case he denounced as another government attempt to remove him from politics.
Anwar and two other defendants from his opposition party were charged with violating a controversial new law governing public gatherings and a court order that banned the April 28 rally from the centre of the capital Kuala Lumpur.
The charge comes just four months after Anwar was acquitted of sodomy in a long-running trial that the charismatic leader has said was engineered by the government of Prime Minister Najib Razak to remove him as a political threat.
"We will fight. This is political intimidation," the 64-year-old Anwar told reporters as he left ! the cour t in the capital.
"Najib is afraid to face me in elections. I want to tell Najib not to use the courts and the flawed (assembly) law passed in parliament to intimidate political opponents."
Anwar's lawyers and a top Election Commission official have confirmed that a conviction on the new charge would strip Anwar of his eligibility to stand for election.
Najib must call national elections by early next year and many observers expect a tight contest after the Anwar-led opposition handed the ruling coalition its worst poll showing in its history in 2008 polls.
Tens of thousands of Malaysians marched in last month's rally organised by electoral-reform group Bersih 2.0, demanding changes to an election system they say is rigged in the ruling coalition's favour.
Since his stunning 199! 8 ouster as deputy prime minister in a power struggle with his boss Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar has spent much of his time either imprisoned on or fighting charges he views as politically motivated.
The new charges, which came to light Wednesday in a summons issued to Anwar, have triggered fresh criticism of a new law on public assemblies passed late last year amid strong criticism from the opposition and human rights groups.
Anwar, who was charged along with two other figures in his opposition People's Justice Party, said they were the first people charged under the Peaceful Assembly Act.
Najib, who has sought to portray himself as a reformer, has said the act guarantees the right of citizens to assemble publicly, but it bans street protests, and critics say it places a range of crippling curbs on other gatherings.
Najib is on an overseas trip, and a spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.
Human Rights Watch called on the government to withdraw Wednesday's charges and amend the assembly act.
"The best way to reform the Peaceful Assembly Act is to repeal it and draft a new law," Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director for the rights group, said in a statement.
"The government needs to go back to the drawing board."

DESIDERATA: First it was Sodomy I, then Sodomy II, via the courts, then accomplices in Datuk T trio on sex-tape, followed by disgraced Nalakaruppan's old&rehashed allegations of Anwar's affair with deputy PKR chief's wife -- now all these "unfair" means -- with recent roping in of two Royals! like th e great RPK and that man of integrity and transparency Tunku Aziz -- are being constantly used just to ensurte the present Opposition LEader cannot ficus his energies, time and resources on taking Pakatan Rakyat to march purposefully to take over the 55-year-old corrupt Barisan Nasional (BN) government in Putrajaya.

But the people/Rakyat with its common masses movement BERSIH3.0 and next, Bersih4.0, will continue to focus on changing the corrupt UMNO-led BN government. Cometh GE-13 now impending with next April 2013 as final deadline, Najib and all his UMNO/MCA/MIC rats are running scared. Because when DS maketh it to lead the next coalition government at Putrajaya, with the Rakyat's help, the UMNO goons will then fear the courts the most, for then the "wayang kulit show trails of former MCA presients Dr Ling Lion Sik and Chan Kong Choy will be replaced by genuione trails involving the current and past TOP-GUNS of UMNO.

Justice and right will prevail. Yes, the Hidup Rakyat clarion call of BERSIH will ensure we cle! an up th e electotal process and snure a clean and fairlky elected Government, both at the state and federal levels.

Lynas no effect on Aussie-M’sia trade talks

KUALA LUMPUR: The controversy over the Lynas rare earth plant in Gebeng, near Kuantan has had no effect on free-trade-agreement (FTA) talks between Australia and Malaysia.

Australian Trade and Competitiveness Minister Craig Emerson revealed this after the two countries inked the Malaysian-Australia FTA (MAFTA).

"A FTA doesn't usually focus on specific projects. It focuses on procedures, practices and the general effort of opening up each country's markets.

"That's what these agreements do, they don't actually conventionally list individual projects and that has not happened in this case for that reason," he told reporters at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

He added that while the two countries have talked about the Australian-based Lynas, the discussions were not over the context of MAFTA.

Emerson also said that there was no proposal for Lynas, or other projects "of that sort" to be covered by the FTA.

He also acknowledged Malaysia's Parliamentary Select Committee that was tasked to investigate the plant's construction, and that Malaysia would have the final say on the matter.

The Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) is scheduled to begin operations this year, despite widespread public and political opposition to the project.

Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers and some parties have doubted the plant's safety conditions, fearing radiation leaks along West Malaysia's eastern coast.

They have brought up the country's previous alleged radiation mishaps, such as the Asian Rare Earth Plant in Bukit Merah, as examples.

The Malaysian government however, has rallied to Lynas's defence, claiming that the project is safe, and will not result in radiation hazards.

‘USM curtailing student rights’

GEORGE TOWN: A group of undergraduates today accused Universiti Sains Malaysia of not practising democracy by pressing charges against a youth who put up Bersih posters in the campus.

USM's Student Progressive Front (SPF) coordinator Yong Kin Yin said USM's decision to press charges against Suaram activist, Tan Hong Kai with criminal trespassing was a step to curtailing students' democratic rights.

"USM has moved backwards by closing its mind to democracy," she said in a statement.

On May 8, Tan, 21, was charged with criminal trespass at a magistrate's court here on May 8 for sticking more than 20 Bersih posters within the USM campus between 2.30am and 3am on April 20.

He claimed trial and was granted bail of RM1,500 with one surety.

The charge under Section 447 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to six months or a maximum fine of RM3,000, or both upon conviction.

The SPF, convened under the Malaysian Youth and Student Democratic Movement, had planned a signature campaign to free Tan.

It aims to collect 500 signatures and hand over the memorandum to compel USM management next Monday to retract its police report against Tan.

Yong said USM practised double standard by hauling up Tan before the law for a negligible incident while ignoring countless criminal case that happened within the university campus.

She cited an incident in 2010 when USM security personnel failed to detain a student who used a knife to slash a campus election poster.

She also said Tan, a Suaram intern, was indeed invited by SPF members to put up the posters.

"Five of us helped Tan to put up the posters but we were not caught because the security did not see us," said Yong.

She argued that it would "silly" to always seek permission from the Student Affairs Department for students to put up posters each time.

USM management declined comment.

Dr Mahathir, So how can a Malay lose power when it’s another Malay replacing the UMNO reject?

Dr Mahathir and the selling of Oxymoronicracy

by

 Sakmongkol AK47

Read here for more

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today reiterated his advice for Umno leaders to discard self-interest and acts of sabotage to ensure a Barisan Nasional (BN) victory in the next general election.

There are two things that stuck out as very sore thumbs in the above statement. Both are never the hallmarks of UMNO. Indeed if they are practised, UMNO ceases to be UMNO. They are the elimination of self –interest and absence of acts of sabotage. Asking UMNO people not to sabotage and to disown personal interest is like asking a camel to go through the needle hole.

Dr Mahathir does not only walk on water- he is also the chief spokesman of oxymoronicracy.

Since the creation of UMNO Baru in 1988, every UMNO leader who has assumed the mantle of leadership has been motivated by self-interests. What's more, they are motivated by the desire to perpetuate the self-interests, where self-preservation is top of the list. It will be interesting to investigate these fellers bank account when they are no longer in power. ! < /div>

Sabotaging is second nature to UMNO people- by incumbents who are no longer chosen to stand or by aspiring candidates scheming and plotting to overthrow incumbents. What is absent from UMNO ? - A sense of purpose and a cause to fight for. So if we want an example of oxymoronicracy- Dr Mahathir is its foremost spokesman.

Let's dissect the substance behind the statement by Dr Mahathir in Jitra the other day. What do we make of this statement?

This is a clear sign that all is not well in UMNO.  He has to reiterate. He has to remind. Someone asked me- the same question I posed some time ago, if UMNO is in dire straits, doesn't that mean easy defeat of them?  So why bother writing about UMNO? Just ignore them. Let them destroy themselves by their won devices.

No can do. We write about UMNO to speed its demise. To hasten its exit from the seat of power so that the real interests of the people are taken care of. We bash UMNO because it has something that we want. Power to do good as opposed power having done evil. We are not power crazy, but we want to take away power from crazy people.

All UMNO leaders and ministers are replaceable. Who can do worse than them? If Najib can become PM, this means anyone can too.

Now, Mahathir the man who I described as one who can walk on water- is giving out unsolicited advice. I am not sure if anyone cares to listen to him nowadays. He has contradicted himself so many times. During an interview with BBC, the interviewer read from a speech Dr Mahathir once spoke from; quoting passages from that speech, Dr Mahathir can cavalierly deny he said that.  He said that with a straight-face. Dr Mahathir is utterly honest even when he is lying.  Now that is an oxymoron.

The polygraph machine doesn't work on Dr Mahathir. Wasn't he the one who was the chief saboteur to UMNO doing whatever he can to unseat Pak Lah? He even left UMNO as it was preparing for elections.

Other than Dr Siti Hasmah, his constant companion is Ibrahim Ali. But then Ibrahim Ali's most noticeable personal trait is his sycophancy. Ibrahim is a perennial rival to PAS's Mat Sabu. The latter says while it's true he isn't good looking as Shahrukh Khan, he is a little handsomer than Ibrahim Ali. But Mat Sabu doesn't k! now Ibra him's portrait is a best seller with padi farmers. His portrait, when placed at strategic points in padi fields scare the living daylights out of pesky birds, rodents and other pests.

Just a little diversion folks. Let's get back to the main issue.

Dr Mahathir is back to the scare tactics for which he is an accomplished master. The intent of his exhortations and pleadings are clear- Malaysia is finished without UMNO and Malays are finished without UMNO. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

When the Congress Party of India was defeated, that didn't stop India from growing further, when LDP( Japan's UMNO) lost, the Japanese rushed forward without missing a heartbeat. When Indonesia's UMNO( Golkar) lost, Indonesia appeared to be placed on a better footing. UMNO and Malaysia is no exception. Malaysia does not depend on UMNO to survive and Malays can dispense with UMNO.

We can't depend on a party whose very future in turn depends on another person's asshole. We can't depend on a party whose survival depends on the continued peddling of pornographic material in the media. We can't stake our future on a party led by a La! rry Flyn t. (He is the owner of the Hustler Magazine).  A most memorable quote from Larry Flynt:- wherever there is a scandal, we try to get involved. That's UMNO for you.

Now you have people like Ustazah Umi Hafilda, Ezam Mat Nor, Hassan Aqidah Ali and Zul Nordin fighting for UMNO's cause. The dirty job by dirty people.

He just doesn't get it- people don't want the continuation of BN administration in the country. People see BN as the perpetrator of empty promises, people see BN as the abuser of power. BN especially UMNO is the embodiment of corruption and deceit. UMNO is no longer the preferred choice as the political platform to advance the cause of the greater good.

And his scariest statement of all- defeat of Umno would be akin to the Malays losing power in their own country. How can Malays lose power? If UMNO loses, the people replacing them will be other Malays. If Najib loses in Pekan, the person who defeats him is Malay. So how can a Malay lose power when it's another Malay replacing the UMNO reject?

Let's take on Dr Mahathir in what he says? What are the elements that make up the constitution of the Malay? ! His reli gion? No one disturbs his religion. It's enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution. It's therefore protected by the laws of the land which no one challenges. DAP accepts that. Islam is the official religion. The position of Islam doesn't therefore depend on the existence of UMNO. It's protected not by UMNO but by the Constitution of Malaysia.

Is there anyone threatening the use of Malay language?  It's accepted as the official language. We know language is an integral part of the Malay people. No one in their right frame of mind is against the use of the Malay language.

The main ingredients that constitute the Malay- his language, his religion and his cultural make-up including the institution of the Malay rulers are protected by the laws of the land. They are not protected by UMNO. Whoever comes after UMNO are not going to disturb the provisions of the laws of the land.

Just remember this – in 2004 when the Malaysian peoples gave Abdullah Badawi UMNO's greatest victory, the people were actually rejoicing at the exit of Mahathir. Its downhill for UMNO ever since. That victory has proven to be the pride before the inevitable fall.
