GEORGE TOWN: The DAP disciplinary committee must be transparent in its inquiry against Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy, grassroots members said.
They are worried over the committee's silence and delay in making a decision on the case.
A member, Yeow Yu Beng, called on the disciplinary committee headed by Tan Kok Wai to be open on the disciplinary process.
"We want to know the outcome of the inquiry," said Yeow, the DAP Mak Mandin branch secretary, who testified against Ramasamy at the inquiry's hearing 10 days ago.
A three-man team headed by Tan held a hearing on Ramasamy's case on Feb 16.
Others in the panel were Penang executive councillor Lim Hock Seng and Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran.
Ramasamy, who is Batu Kawan MP and Prai assemblyman, is facing charges of gross internal misconduct for allegedly organising a noisy protest against Karpal Singh during the Penang DAP annual convention in Prai on Dec 11 last year.
But Ramasamy, the DAP deputy secretary-general and state deputy chairman, has denied the allegation.
Another complainant, M Yoganathan, said members felt they were being kept in the dark on the issue.
He said that grassroots members have the right to know about the findings of disciplinary proceedings.
"They are anxious to know the committee's decision," said Yoganathan, the party's Taman Inderawasih branch chairman, who also testified at the inquiry.
Assemblymen RSN Rayer (Seri Delima) and A Tanasekharan (Bagan Dalam) led 13 others to testify against Ramasamy.
It's learnt the complainants have submitted photographic evidence to substantiate their claims.
Another complainant, Jalan Bagan Luar branch chairman G Asoghan, said he was curious to know whether the committee was "dragging its feet".
He added that members were keen to know reasons behind the prolonged delay.
He urged the leaders to act decisively on Ramasamy's case so that members can face the next general election with a clear mind.
Rumours are spreading that certain hidden hands were thwarting any disciplinary action against Ramasamy.
DAP Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M Manoharan is disappointed that Ramasamy's case was not handled as speedily as his disciplinary case was last year.
Manoharan, the former Selangor DAP chief, was suspended for six months after issuing a statement about the national flag on Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
He has said that the flag resembled that of the American flag and that he would propose for a change in its features if Pakatan Rakyat captured the federal government.
"I am a life-long DAP member and I gave my heart and soul to the party. But I was punished and suspended for suggesting a change on the Malaysian flag," Manoharan, a former ISA detainee, said today.
He said that Ramasamy was facing more serious allegations of misconduct – staging a noisy protest against Karpal.
"But the disciplinary committee is yet to take any action against Ramasamy," Manoharan said.
