FELDA : The smell of easy money? (Part III)

Part 1:    The smell of easy money

Part 2:  The smell of easy money

  • The more I read about FELDA-A, FGV and KPF, the more I am convinced that the actions of the government would serious repercussion on the KPF. I would say any members of KPF  who support government plan is simply "bodoh". After all the years of suffering and toiling the land in the middle of the jungle, I do hope  they think and seek independent consultant views  before deciding the next course of action. In this case it is paramount that the members take action that forces the KPF trustee board to seek the consensus of all it 200,000 members before proceeding. Isa Samad as it is has infiltrated KPF. The appointment of Isa Samad as Chairman of the board is highly irregular. The legal fraternity is questioning the legality of the Cooperatives Minister power in appointing Isa.

  • The way forward as I see is that members of KPF send a strong political language to Najib. He would appreciate the value of their votes. The PM  should take Isa out of KPF and allow KPF to buy the 49% FELDA-A ownership of Felda Holding. It would make more sense that the cooperative manages its own business independently and the Authority function as an authority and not as a business entity. Felda–A must remain as a body that strictly function within the organizational objectives. KPF is already matured and it should be allowed to take the next course of actions without any government intervention. FELDA-A after disposing their 49% stake in FH, can do whatever they like with their money in other business venture. After both FH and FGV as it is do not compete and operate in separate business domain.

  • To KPF members, my advice is "Jangan sia siakan usaha anda selama ini. Control your board members using your power.

Generation Wh(Y)

Print Friendly

Dear Youth,
Yeah, yeah, what a load of crap.

You've heard this line everywhere—from politicians, principals, teachers, parents. You've read it in some cryptic, preachy moral textbook that assumes memorising moral values will somehow make you a better person. You've absent-mindedly invoked this phrase in some clichéd BM karangan (because your teacher promised you it was worth 5 marks) along with some peribahasa (idiom) about how we all should join shoulders like the aur (bamboo) tree and the river bank, hop around and sing Kumbaya till 2020, at which point we would have reached our ultimate life goal and floated off to a sort of utopia where all is perfect (complete with an endless supply of free food; how else would it be perfect?)

So if young people like you and me are the heralded future leaders who will march our country into a glittering future where no man, woman or child will ever go hungry, why are there so many complaints against us? Why is it that we're so often accused of being obsessed with Justin Bieber (God forbid!) or Jessica Alba (guilty!) and care about little else? Why do older people constantly describe us as apathetic, lackadaisical and immature? Why do they complain that we don't know anything about the world, and that we shouldn't  have the right to vote because we wouldn't know how to use it anyway?

Well, while some of their accusations may well be true, I think we're not entirely to blame. Here's why.

Why we like that one?!

Let me give you a simple analogy. My mother expects me to get straight As. She nags gently reminds me every single day that I should not disappoint her and dad, my aunties, uncles, the countless generations of illustrious Ongs and our family dog. Her expectations push me to work hard. A tiny little voice in my head whispers "you are destroying your future!" every time I reach for my book—Facebook, that is.

On the other hand, I have a friend whose parents don't expect as much from him. Okay, perhaps that's an understatement. They reward him with fantastic prizes such as an iPad just for taking the SPM. They say he can always just take over the family business. He's a nice guy and all, but his academic results just aren't that great, to say the least.

My point is, when people expect more of us, we tend to work harder, care more. This applies in everything, and that includes caring about the world at large. When we ask curious questions or butt into intense political discussions to give our two cents' worth, we're often told that we're too young for these things, that we wouldn't understand, that there's no point worrying, that we should run along and busy ourselves with our studies instead.
"Aiya… no need to care la.. No point now, wait till you get older," they say.
Our elders don't expect us to care about civil society. Sometimes even, they don't want us to care. And because of that, a lot of young people don't bother! Why should we? It's not like politics or stuff like that concerns us, right?

Wrong.

Why we should give a sh**

The complaints students have are largely the same. They complain about how stupid and stifling the education system is, how they hate sejarah (history) because it's so rigid and didactic, how there aren't enough scholarships, and how annoying it is to keep switching back and forth between BM and English.

Hmmm. Don't these seem like political decisions to you? They are all decisions made at the top level of administration, that trickle down and profoundly affect our lives. Even for people who aren't the type to complain, don't forget that the rising costs of living and the way the budget is used still affects what shoes you can buy, which restaurants you go to and how many nights you can afford to go clubbing.

But you know why we should care even more than anybody else? Because policy decisions affect us more than many other segments of society. Take as an example the recent government move to extend and improve the LRT service to the larger Klang Valley (the My Rapid Transit project). By the time the project is finished around 2016 or so, the people who are going to be working and utilising public transport will be us. Another example is the government's move to regulate and limit medical degree programmes—again, the people who should really care are potential medical students: you and me! Need any more convincing? The move to abolish bumiputera quotas will probably only really take effect in four or five years time—again you and me. The Lynas plant, which will process rare earth minerals, could be a potential health hazard—to our health and our children's.

The point is, we should care for the simple reason that we have a huge stake in how things pan out. But how can we contribute? Is it possible to make a meaningful contribution?

Yes, We Can.
Not to plagiarise Obama, but it's 100% true. There are plenty of ways for us to contribute. UndiMsia is a fantastic civil education programme that educates people on their rights, and has workshops on how to exercise those rights, open to all. LoyarBurok is another such website, where people of all ages and backgrounds are given the opportunity to express their opinions. Then there are also venues such as the Malaysian Public Policy Competition (MPPC) where young Malaysians harness their brain power to rethink public policy.

But beyond the large-scale events and camera flashbulbs, there are plenty of simple ways we can empower ourselves. Sharing a news story on Facebook, simply mentioning issues while at the mamak stall, and just reading the newspaper (not just the comics or sports section, mind you). Awareness goes a long way in making us better-informed citizens and voters for the future. Remember Auntie Bersih? Her photograph was taken by Hugo Teng, a youth just like you and me, and look at the waves those poignant shots created. Small steps can move a nation.

The reason so many oppressive regimes ban university students from participating in politics or rallies is simple. It's because they fear young people. They fear us because we are powerful.

It's time to wield that power.

Yours sincerely,

Youth.

Perkasa kecewa novel Interlok ditarik

Filem-filem mereka terbaru masih banyak menceritakan kesah kasta-kasta kaum India," katanya.

Akhbar perdana berbahasa Inggeris hari ini memetik kenyataan Menteri Sumber Manusia Datuk Seri S Subramaniam sebagai berkata bahawa komponen kesusasteraan subjek Bahasa Malaysia untuk Tingkatan Lima tidak lagi menggunakan novel kontroversi Interlok mulai tahun depan.

Credit by plastic — Kartik Taneja

DEC 17 — Credit cards are like deodorant. Hold on to your snotty comment and read on. Not everybody needs them but everybody could do with them. They all fundamentally function much the same way but, every year, the companies producing them come out with new versions. Oh and one other thing: they are absolutely vital to the economy — they provide credit. It is difficult to fathom the consequences if the S$ 35 billion (RM84 billion) that Singapore consumers are likely to spend on their credit cards is taken away from our economy.

It is not uncommon to go to a restaurant and see someone pull out a thick wad of credit cards and ask which one gives them a discount. According to the Credit Bureau of Singapore, 41 per cent of Singaporean card customers have cards from five or more banks. And a little more than three per cent have cards from 10 or 11 card issuers. We really love a good deal, don't we?

According to the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the total amount of money owed to card companies in Singapore as of September is S$ 7.37 billion. On the surface, this equates to 3.3 per cent of total GDP last year, on par with most developed economies.

However, the difficulty faced by European economies like Greece and Italy in paying the money they have borrowed is illustrative of some of the dangers of easy credit and profligate behaviour. This time of the year, more than ever, it is absolutely crucial to watch our spending and not bite off more than we can chew.

The No. 1 mistake that everyone makes is the most basic — not keeping track of spending. It is also the most difficult to do.

1. Keep track: In our consumer research, we have found that individuals consistently underestimate not only how much they are likely to spend but also how much they think they have spent — sometimes by as much as 100 per cent. Keeping track of how much you spend now may help you stick to your budget and avoid a headache next month.

2. Consolidate: While having many cards may give you discounts at different places, consider consolidating spending on two to three cards. This may help you keep track of your spending and limit multiple payment deadlines. It also allows you to enjoy rewards that you may miss out on if you spread your spending over many cards.

3. Avoid paying late: Consolidating also helps you stay the course in remembering to pay your card bills on time. You do not have to worry about late charges and interest payments on your cards and the hassles that come with that. Savings on your credit card bill can also be maximised by utilising cashback features on your cards.

4. Look a gift horse in the mouth: During the festive season, special offers by card issuers are aplenty. Just make sure you understand what you are getting into. Does that payment holiday also mean you will not be charged interest? Do you need to do anything additional to qualify for that promotion? Make sure you do not end up paying more money to qualify than you save.

5. Avoid paying just the minimum payment due on your bill: Okay, so you did not listen. You have overspent and you need to roll over a balance. Try to make more than the minimum payments due to pay off your balances as soon as you can. Or plan your payments by calling your bank and converting your balance into an instalment plan — it will help you plan your payment and save you interest.

Follow these rules when spending this festive season and you would surely have a Merry Christmas and an even better 2012! — Today

Kenapa pula Umno hendak menentukan nasib Hasan? Beliau bukannya wakil rakyat Umno tetapi wakil rakyat PAS?

Kalau itulah tafsiran pemimpin-pemimpin PAS, ternyatalah mereka salah.

— Utusan Malaysia

Cowgate: Talk straight please, MACC! — Kim Quek

DEC 17 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) defended its position on December 16 with regards to the National Feedlot Centre scandal on two fronts: through the issue of a statement and at a press conference given by MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed after the closing ceremony of a MACC programme at the Anti-Corruption Academy .

In the statement quoted by Bernama, the MACC denied that it had not taken any action. It said that it did scrutinise the complaint from NGOs regarding the abuse of a government loan to purchase luxurious condominiums by National Feedlot Corporation, and found no corruption element, and hence passed the case to the police.

Atn the press conference, Abu Kassim said that since the scandal was exposed in the 2010 Auditor-General's Report in October, the MACC had already started studying it from the corruption point of view., The issue of whether the MACC is or is not probing the case does not arise, since the MACC's earlier measure to pass the case to police was only a response specifically directed at the particular complaint of irregularity in using the loan to purchase the condos. Since it was a case of misuse of public loan, it was forwarded to police for further investigation.

Abu Kassim further said that the public could have misunderstood the MACC, not knowing its working procedure. He stressed that the MACC has always practised the principle of probing corruption without fear or favour, regardless of whether the persons involved are Cabinet ministers or ordinary citizens.

We take it from this Abu Kassim statement that the earlier "passing the buck to police" move relates to only the condo purchase incident and not to other aspects of the scandal. Then, can Abu Kassim tell us now whether the MACC is investigating the entire NFC debacle?

WHY THE EERIE SILENCE?

And please tell us why the MACC has steadfastly kept its eerie silence for the past two months, while the controversy has been raging inside and outside Parliament, with numerous press conferences and Internet postings that produced heaps of evidence of corruption, abuse of power, collusion, breach of trust and criminal negligence by ministers and government officials in the award of project and disbursement of loan?

Abu Kassim, never mind about your so-called faithfully practised principle of investigation "without fear or favour", just tell us plain and simple a) whether you agree or disagree that there are elements that justify the MACC to move in, and b) whether you have started investigation in earnest.

Since this is such a high-profile scandal that affects vital national interests, and the resolution of which will hinge the credibility of the entire Malaysian government, will Abu Kassim please be honest for once and tell the nation what exactly is the status of the MACC's investigations with respect to this NFC fiasco. And what has the MACC done in the past two months towards seeking out the culprits and restoring some semblance of rule of law to this country?

No more hypocritical rhetoric please; just simple, honest answers.

The Democratic Institution in Malaysia — Victor

DEC 17 — Democracy should be a symbiotic relationship between the rule of law, general socio-economic well being of the ruled and the political ruling class.

Perhaps in Malaysia this symbiotic relationship is accentuated by the political realities which manifest themselves in rather unsavoury light. That may be the reason why socio-economic well being is not felt by the general populace and the rule of law is not exercised by appointees with a sense of justice and equity. The necessary independence and objectivity is not present within the components of the various arms of government, I think.

The political class preponderates over the trilogy of democratic institutions which warp the whole of Malaysian societal structures resulting in complete social disequilibrium. If only some of the Malaysian diasporas will return to infuse some fresh blood into the anaemic blood streams which affect every sphere of Malaysian society we may yet have a good future. I have always been proud of the many talents in Malaysia but unfortunately most stay abroad because of the language issue.

I am not a talent in the true sense of the word but I stayed out of Malaysia because my Malay competence falls far below the level which will enable me to function reasonably well in my particular professional area of expertise. So I stayed on in Singapore as the only language which I am most comfortable with English is the professional tool used in Singapore.

I think there are many like me around the four corners of the globe trying to make their living in the most pragmatic manner. What if all of us are back in Malaysia? Would our concerted presence make a difference? I doubt.

The politics of dissension and ethnic differentiation and unfair bias coupled with preferred religious imbalance completely distort social mobility of Malaysian society resulting in brain drain to the detriment of Malaysia within the community of nations.

Sad but true and I am still hoping some semblance of fairness and justice will be maintained long enough for my retirement to a Malaysia which I still love.

‘Interlok and Perkasa’s weird logic’

GEORGE TOWN: The DAP said that they could not understand Perkasa's weird logic in going against the decision to remove the controversial Interlok novel from schools.

Its national chairman Karpal Singh said it was the Cabinet's responsibility to 'correct all wrongs' in its system of governance that affects the people.

"It's wrong for an extremist organisation like Perkasa to criticise the government decision to remove the Interlok novel.

"Indeed the book should be banned altogether across the country," he told reporters in Air Itam here today. He also called on the novel's  author, national laureate Abdullah Hussain to apologise to all Malaysian Indians for the racially insensitive contents in the book.

In a SMS statement last night, Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hasan Syed Ali said the group was very angry with MIC president G Palanivel over the withdrawal of the Form 5 literature text.

He expressed Perkasa's disappointment and regrets over the government decision.

"The government is too weak and has failed to withstand pressure from a minority group that is big headed. Perkasa is aware of MIC's need to bank on the Indian vote for the GE13.

"This is very insolent. Because of the Indian vote, the dignity of a Malay writer is being insulted," said Syed Hassan.

Karpal called Syed Hassan's views as "weird logic "

The Bukit Gelugor MP instead called on for a total ban on the novel for it contained racial slurs insulting the Indian community.

"The novel should be removed from all libraries and book stores. It should be banished from public view," insisted Karpal.

The novel was made compulsory reading for Form Five students this year as part of the Malay Literature subject in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Putrajaya.

The novel chronicled the daily lives and struggles of three families – a Malay, Chinese and  Indian during pre-independence Malaya and their contributions to the formation of the country.

But the novel sparked an outrage, especially from Indians, against several racially offensive words such as 'India Pariah', 'Melayu Malas', 'Cina Kuai', 'perempuan totok', 'babi' and 'syaitan putih'.

The book was also criticised for portraying unhealthy elements such as pre-marital cohabitation, infidelity, spirit worship, trading in humans.

‘Speed-up conclusion of Altantuya murder case’

GEORGE TOWN: Senior lawyer Karpal Singh today called on the Attorney-General Chambers to hasten the conclusion of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu murder case.

He is frustrated over the prolonged delay of appeal process by the two former police personnel, Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri 34, and Corporal Sirul Azhar, 39, who were convicted for Altantuya's murder five years ago.

Their appeal is up for case management in Court of Appeal on Feb 10 next year and could even end up in the Federal Court.

Altantuya father Setev Shaariibuu has filed a suit on June 4, 2007 against the Malaysian government and those responsible for the gruesome murder of his daughter.

Karpal is representing Setev in the civil case on a pro-bono basis.

He had also held watching brief for the late Altantuya family and the Mongolian government during the murder trial.

Under the law, the Setev's civil proceedings can commence only after the criminal proceedings have been completed in its entirety.

"I appeal to the AG to quicken the appeal process to enable the civil case to began soon," Karpal, the DAP national chairman, told newsmen during his visit Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency here today.

After a long hiatus, early this year Setev has appealed to the Malaysian courts to hasten the hearing of the RM100 million civil suit he has filed against the government.

He said he has paid a substantial amount of money, RM60,000 as security bond to the Malaysian court last year.

Azilah and Sirul were sentenced to death by the Shah Alam High Court on April 9, 2009

after being found guilty for Altantuya murder at Mukim Bukit Raja between 9.45pm on Oct 18, 2006, and 9.45pm the next day.

Their trial which commenced on April 9, 2007 and lasted for 159 days.

The duo, commandos with the elite Special Action Squad, subsequently filed their appeals to the appellate court.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak close confidant Abdul Razak Baginda, 50, was also charged with abetting the duo in Altantuya's murder.

He was freed by the High Court on Oct 31, 2008, without his defence being called.

Najib: Opposition pact fragile

SUNGAI PETANI: The opposition pact is fragile and cannot be sustained because the political parties are cooperating only due to their hatred for the Barisan Nasional, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.

The fragility of their pact and the ideological differences of the parties are the sources of the various problems they face among themselves, he added.

"The pact cannot sustain for long because the fundamental differences in opinion will eventually trigger conflicts among the parties," he told reporters after launching the national-level Agriculture Graduates Entrepreneurs Club (MyAgrosis) and opening the youth and graduate entrepreneurs gathering at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Merbok, near here.

The prime minister was asked to comment on the various problems the opposition parties faced in their attempt to make their collaboration work.
Najib described the fragile opposition pact as being much different from the BN which he said forged cooperation on a single policy accepted by all the component parties.

"They (the opposition parties) are facing all kinds of problems even before the general election. This happens when you have ideological differences which are very apparent and fundamental," he said.

Najib, who is also Umno president, said the recent Umno general assembly has inspired the party members greatly to face the next general election.

"I hope they will carry this spirit to their respective areas and continue with the task of strengthening our machinery and discharging their duties as per our instruction," he said.

Perbezaan fahaman politik punca umat Islam berpecah

MB Melayu,DO Melayu,YB Melayu, tapi kenapa Melayu semakin miskin...

‘Amend constitution to stop party-hopping’

GEORGE TOWN: The DAP today called on the Najib administration to amend the Federal Constitution to ban party hopping by elected representatives.

Its chairman Karpal Singh said Barisan Nasional government should table an emergency parliamentary bill soon to amend the constitution.

"It should be done before the next general election," Karpal told newsmen during his weekly Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency visit here today.

He said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak can count on the Pakatan Rakyat support for the amendment.

He said Najib should not be worried about not securing a two-thirds majority needed to make a constitutional amendment.

He said the Pakatan MPs would surely back Najib's administration on the amendment, which would eventually flush out selfish politicians.

The amendment will have to done on Article 10 of the Federal Constitution which allows citizens freedom of association.

Many elected representatives are pointing to the article to justify their defections over the years.

Karpal, a lawyer by profession, indicated that only a constitutional amendment can once and for all put an end to party hopping by elected representatives.

The amendment would pave way for the parliament and state governments to legislate anti-hopping laws.

Karpal was referring to a Gerakan suggestion to ban party hopping made during a public hearing by the Parliamentary Select Committee on electoral reforms here yesterday.

The hearing was chaired by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Maximus Ongkili.

Power in the hands of voters

Penang Gerakan legal and human rights bureau head Baljit Singh had told the committee that it would reduce politicking and avoid political uncertainties.

He particularly referred to the PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim's Sept 16 fiasco and Perak government coup by BN via defections by Pakatan elected representatives that led to a constitutional crisis in 2009.

Gerakan proposal was to have elected seats automatically vacant when the representative quits his or her party.

It is to ensure that the right to choose a government remains in the hands of the voters.

A by-election shall be held to uphold the constituents to elect their legitimate representative.

"This would reduce politicking where the government can fully focus on running the country to avoid uncertainties," Baljit told the committee.

Gerakan's other proposals were on use of indelible ink during voting, automatic registration for voters above 21 years of age and deletion for deaths

Karpal said the DAP, the country's single largest parliamentary opposition party, had always despised party hopping.

He said defecting elected representatives have actually betrayed the trust of their constituents.

"The DAP wants the amendment bill to be tabled soon," he said.

After selling Proton — Tay Tian Yan

DEC 17 — The recent movements of Proton's shares send many speculating that the national car manufacturer could have had a new buyer.

This is not the second time nor the third time that someone has shown any interest in acquiring Proton. From Volkswagen to GM, Mitsubishi to Peugeot, along with some local consortia, but nothing comes under the hammer as yet.

Proton's biggest shareholder Khazanah has on numerous occasions held talks with major overseas automakers to dispose of Proton or forge a strategic alliance, and when everything was almost decided, Mahathir suddenly voiced up against the deal, followed by theories such as "national assets are not for sale," or "national interests must never be betrayed."

Khazanah does not want to offend Mahathir, the founding father of Proton, and had to continue adopting Proton out of no choice.

But this time, the sale of Proton could be real.

It was from the mouth of Mahathir himself that Proton would be sold to DRB-Hicom, a company run by renowned Bumi entrepreneur Syed Mokhtar.

Well, now that Mahathir has given the green light, Proton will be able to get a buyer pretty soon. Khazanah can now get rid of this losing business, which is a good thing for both the government as well as the people.

The question is: is Proton getting the right buyer?

Sure enough DRB-Hicom is involved in automobiles, but given its size and experience which is restricted to solely vehicle assembly and marketing, it doesn't quite has what it takes to get into serious auto manufacturing.

Can the technology, capital, market and management expertise Proton needs so badly be available through DRB-Hicom?

I'm not sure about this, but it probably does have some plans in the pipeline.

Proton's problems and future are an epitome of the fierce competition in the global auto industry. On the one hand we see large, old manufacturers face with gruesome difficulty and some newcomers bowing out of the market; on the other hand we also see a handful of aspiring manufacturers rising above their peers.

An insightful article exploring the problems of the auto industry in the latest edition of Time magazine should serve as a good reference for Proton.

Several years ago, America's Big Three were having big trouble of surviving, with GM and Chrysler almost forced into bankruptcy. Many felt the American auto industry was not going to make it.

However, the US auto industry still survives today, having gone past its darkest winter. The key lies in the effort of the US government to fix up the industry by not only providing the funds but also mapping out new development strategies for the industry.

It even pushed through a strategic alliance between Chrysler and Fiat, and allowed Italian-Canadian Sergio Marchionne to take over the helm.

The US auto industry is now back on its feet. The government gets its investment returns, factory workers keep their jobs and the auto industry continues to become an important pillar of the US economy.

There is much more than just getting a new buyer for Proton! — mysinchew.com

The people’s plight, the country’s disaster — Lim Mun Fah

DEC 17 — The temporary teacher issue has been intensified and even the United Chinese School Committees Association (Dong Zong) is threatening to launch a nationwide protest.

It is also reported that Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong actually criticised some officials a few days ago for not reporting the truth to the education minister, causing many problems to be swept under the rug.

This is actually the crux of the problem. Some ministers and deputy ministers have actually been blinded by "Little Napoleons" and take the provided "part of the truth" as the "whole truth". As a result, they make wrong judgments and decisions, triggering public resentment.

Are Little Napoleons really so nasty and unstoppable? Or have they ever been touched?

The answer is clear and we all know the reasons.

The term "Little Napoleon" was first used in 2006 by then Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to describe arrogant civil servants who had abused their power and deliberately delayed the national development plan to show how powerful they were.

Abdullah's remarks had immediately aroused the people's sympathy and stirred up long-repressed anger. The air was filled with voices about the scourge of the Little Napoleons.

Since then, the term Little Napoleon has been widely used across the country.

Prior to this, when we talk about the abuse of power among civil servants, the term "deviation" was used, such as policy deviation, administrative deviation and implementation deviation.

Time flies and five years later, Abdullah is no longer the prime minister but most of those who were called Little Napoleons at that time, except for some who have retired, are still sitting steadily in the office, and continue making trouble. It seems like they are holding a power greater than some ministers, the Cabinet and even Parliament!

Clearly, the excoriation of the former prime minister five years ago has not brought any substantial results or changes, except for making the term popular. The Little Napoleons being accused of "holding on to the file" or "deliberately delaying the approval of development plans" can still be found everywhere in the administrative team.

Such a phenomenon has reflected how terrible and destructive some bureaucrats could be. It is not because they are mediocre and incompetence, but rather arrogant and conceited. It is indeed a plight to the people, as well as a disaster to the country!

KLIK IMEJ

Time to relook ties with BN — Jacob Sinnathamby

DEC 17 — Underlying this decision by the Education Ministry to disregard names nominated by the Catholic Church for the principal of Convent Bukit Nanas and appoint Datin Seri Zavirah Mohd Shaari as the head is another example of a promise broken, a verbal agreement trampled upon.

As pointed out by Archbishop Murphy Pakiam, the government in the 1970s agreed for "maximum consultation" with Christian mission schools and Dr Mahathir Mohamad repeated the pledge in 1998 in a trip to Kota Kinabalu to consult mission school authorities over the choice of school teachers and heads.

This agreement and promise has been broken repeatedly by a government which has gone back on many agreements over the years and tried to circumvent its obligations, from paying oil royalty to Kelantan to fulfilling the terms of the peace agreement signed with the CPM.

It bears reminding Catholics and Christians and non-Muslims why the word of a BN leader is not worth much. Dr Mahathir was on the ropes in 1998 and had lost significant ground with the Malays after the sacking of Anwar Ibrahim.

He was in Kota Kinabalu because the Sabah elections were supposed to a barometer of how Malaysians viewed his sacking of Anwar. So Dr Mahathir was prepared to promise the moon, sky and anything to win well.

This he did. So that promise to the Catholic community should be seen in that light.

Similarly, just before the Sarawak elections, didn't Najib Razak also make a whole bunch of promises to Christians, many of which will never be implemented?

To win the Christians or should I say to dupe the Christians, he has been ably assisted by Idris Jala, Bernard Dompok, Maximus Ongkili, Joseph Kurup, Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Joseph Salang Gandum and other Christians in the BN or the government.

I need to also refresh the memory of Malaysians that it was under Najib as education minister that the ethos of Christian mission schools was destroyed.

So where does this leave us?

Firstly, may I humbly suggest that the archbishop return the Tan Sriship bestowed on him. To keep it would be to endorse the cavalier manner in which this government treats Christians and its obligations.

Also, may I suggest that all Christians send out a strong signal to the BN and its Christian collaborators at the coming polls.

May I also in this season of Advent urge Christians not to despair and lose hope, for our day of glory beckons.

I end with a few verses from Psalm 46: "God is our refuge and our strength, an ever present help in distress."

Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken and mountains quake to the depths of the sea.

UMNO/APCO-BN = RAJA WANG HARAM

RM1,077 bilion wang negara dibawa lari.

Menurut mereka, Seksyen 15 sebenarnya hanya merangkumi kebebasan berpersatuan mahasiswa.

Musim baru sandiwara Interlok?

Kejayaan MIC?

"Saya menandatangani surat izin selepas kami meneliti draf pindaan.

Kuasa undi kaum India

Pendirian Kavyan tetap sama sehingga kini.
