Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Social Political Buzz & Bulls

What to do NOW

By Hakim Joe

The fat fugitive cigar-chomping hippie has always accused us of perpetually whinging of how things presently are and not contributing enough suggestions on how to correct all these transgressions. He tells us not to live in the past but to move ahead into the present and to start acting now lest we are stopped from such actions in the future.

Well, here is a list of what I think Pakatan Rakyat should do NOW:

Foremost, they need to resolve the leadership issue once and for all. DSAI is the de facto leader by consensus but he might be back in jail very soon and all the PR component party leaders need to settle on an individual leading the Opposition during GE13 as DSAI cannot viably be capable of doing so from within his prison cell. Additionally, in the event that PR actually garners sufficient parliamentary seats to topple the existing government, DSAI is not legally qualified to become the PM of Malaysia.

Wan Azizah however could be a good choice as she is widely accepted by everybody. Political experience will never become an issue here. Look at the Philippines: Corazon Aquino – zero political experience but possibly the best President the Philippines ever had and definitely loads better than how her son is performing now (even with his political upbringing).

The DPM should go to the respectable Nik Aziz as he is the only person the voters can accept to hold that position. Lim and Karpal both do not qualify as the Constitution forbids it on racial grounds. (God forbids if that position is offered to Azmin Ali.) And then there are all the important ministerial positions but that can wait until GE13 is won.

Number Two on the agenda is the many proposed policies, in which PR needs to state, which will act as their political platform. Reforms, Rights, Privileges, Amendments to existing laws, Separation of Powers, etc are but a few of the important issues that require clarification now (not later).

Pakatan desperately needs to have a common policy that is acceptable to all Malaysians and to show a united front. Campaign posters and banners need to show all three party emblems and no more conflicting resolutions from the three leaders or their associates. It has to be "One for All and All for One" but most importantly, it has to be declared out for all to know.

Number Three is the setting up of an elections committee with! all thr ee parties combined and the organization of the many divisional level working parties that will be capable of reacting immediately once Parliament is dissolved. These entire election machinery needs to be ready now and not next month or next year. Additionally, the work parties must be structured to perform different duties and leaders be selected to lead them. Why set up after eections are called when they can be prepared now?

Number Four is the budget as elections are a costly affair. Brochures, flags, banners, pins, caps and T-shirts need to be printed. Food and drinks need to be provided for the working party members. Travel expenses are required for the pre-election campaigning all over Malaysia. Transportation needs to be prepared and organized for the traveling parties and accommodations provided for if it is an interstate overnight trip. Umbrellas need to be ready, tents, tables and chairs need to be rented and all these translate into large numbers that needs to be paid. As they say, No Money No Talk.

Number Five is that the proposed candidates must go on the campaigning trail now and not after elections are called for. The more exposure to the targeted voters, the higher the chances of being elected. Who would want to vote for a candidate that one has never seen or heard before or a candidate that makes his or her appearance once every four years. Additionally, no free seats for BN. Every seat must be contested even if one risks losing the deposit.

Number Six is information. The more information that is provided to the voters of Pakatan's intentions, the better informed the voters will be and Pakatan's hierarchy will need to be targeting a certain category of voters, as it will be a waste of time, effort and resources to try convincing hardcore BN voters on such a short period of time. Subsequently, the use of alternate news media must be amplified to a larger audience for this and also to expose the government's shortfa! lls and alleged corrupt practices.

Number Seven would be the preparation of an expert committee to inspect the electoral roll once it is ready. This might actually translate into work parties physically confirming addresses on the ground through legwork but essentially it will only mean the scrutinization of the electoral roll looking for identical entries or suspect voter information. It would be rather impossible to squeeze 100 residents into an apartment building if 100 different voters on the roll exhibit identical residential addresses or if a voter whose birthday is on 1900 or before that.

The best manner to handle such a big task would be to get a large group of people to input all these information into a computer or to get a scanner with OCR capabilities to do it. A scan would then be easily achieved to sort out the identical entries. A mammoth undertaking but seats are lost with just one vote.

Number Eight would be to follow up on the BN promises. Najib has indicated that electoral reforms are underway. He has also said that he will abolish the ISA. Additionally, he has allowed students to be involved in politics but so far nothing has been accomplished and the Opposition urgently needs to harass them on the implementation date both in Parliament and in the media. Get BERSIH 3.0 going. Sue the GOM for its broken promises. Do anything to exaggerate the situation; just do not do nothing as BN will explore any opportunity to do the same to PR. Show the people what PR is capable of and scare the bejesus out of BN.

Number Nine. Sort out the Selangor State Government chaos now as it is riddled with BN goons (literally). Clean up that crappy clutter and the people will actually believe that PR is actually capable of helming the country in Putrajaya. In addition, sort out the East Malaysian opposition party mess because both Sabah and Sarawak possesses 56 parliamentary seats of the total of 222 seats (25%) even when they only have 19.5! % of the population of Malaysia. Pakatan was only able to secure 2 pitiful parliamentary seats there in 2008.

Lastly, get the people involved right now. Secure every possible advantage. Get the 2008 Elections and the BERSIH 2.0 momentum going. Get Reformasi back. Exhibit DSAI's black eye. Screen the Perak State Assembly fiasco. Remember Teoh Beng Hock and Ahmad Sarbani. Wear yellow T-shirts. Remind the people how a mere dentist can afford a RM30 million bungalow and get away with it or how a pornstar became the people's alleged leader. Distribute copies of that sex tape. Get those Birkin bags out. Present to the public the billion Ringgit subs that is capable of erasing immigration records and killing a girl but yet incapable of submerging underwater. Ask the GOM why tear gas was fired into a hospital during BERSIH 2.0. Burn more incense to the Jelapang bitch.

Do ANYTHING. Just do not do NOTHING.

Looking into the crystal ball — Nawawi Mohamad

NOV 15 — Najib would have wished that the snow had yet to thaw on the ground so that the dirt and mud on the ground would still be nicely covered by a pure white blanket, and the scene is beautiful as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately for him the present scenes in Malaysia are deplorable and disgustingly ugly.

Najib will have an impossible task to paint over these scenes especially the recent ones that are still freshly exposed and those that are difficult to forget.

He may have to digress a lot from the prepared speech because he knows that it is a whole load of bull, unless he does not have any conscience at all.

Since he has just been back from performing the haj, he would prefer to be addressed as Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Najib, at least from now until the next general election. Had not Chegubard pre-empted the move that the media will air continuously the clip and show photos of Najib performing the haj and inside the Kaabah, the Umno propagandists would surely have shown them.

Thus it would be most appropriate to begin his speech quoting from the holy verses and choosing the appropriate ones to fit the occasion. Najib will then remind those in the assembly that they have a great responsibility to shoulder for the Malays and the entire nation, not that anybody would pay heed. He would also criticise, reprimand, praise them and above all give them the assurance that he (Najib) is still the only person capable of bringing about changes for the betterment of Umno and the country, and the only leader that they must give their full and unwavering support to thus there should not be any changes in the present leadership hierarchy. He will be quick and try to be forceful on that.

He will then start the airbrushing.

The speech will then be concentrated on convincing the entire nation especially the voters (since it will be a live telecast) to give him and Umno/BN the trust to bring Malaysia to its glory by repeating the list of all the good deeds of Umno.

The struggle for independence will again be touched upon to remind us that Umno is the one who struggled for independence with some help from the Chinese, Indians and other ethnic communities. He will rebuke Mat Sabu on the role of Mat Indera and the communists. Despite all the inter-religious and inter-racial spats short of upheavals, he wants us to be united but without any suggestion as to how it could be achieved since Malaysia is in dire straits and at various crossroads in religion, economy, education and politics.

Najib will also touch on the various developments under the previous prime ministers and he will somehow reiterate the need to maintain similar economic policies that will benefit the Malays without jeopardising the other races. Yes, this is to assure the Malays that their "special privilege" will never be sacrificed. He will avoid all controversial issues like the word "Allah", apostasy, proselytizing and LGBT.

He will touch on the rights of every citizen, groups, and minorities and will look into their demands and grievances. He will also use this opportunity to explain the launch and institutionalising of "the Global Movement of the Moderates" in Kuala Lumpur at the inaugural International Conference on the Global Movement of the Moderates (CGMM) his only probable and trivial legacy, from January 17 to 19. He would wish that this will help to divert the attention of most of the rakyat away from the domestic problems. In his mind, he would also wish that he could start a war in a foreign country just like US presidents have done to smother burning domestic problems, after all he has just met Obama in Hawaii. He will again mention that democracy in Malaysia has matured because the Umno/BN government allows dissent and he has already announced the repeal of the ISA and formed the Parliament Select Committee on Election (PSCE) to improve the electoral system.

But this CGMM will have no effect to smother the Bersih 2.0 event, in fact there is already Bersih 3.0 in the making. He will not be able to wipe our memories of the murder of Altantuya, death of Kugan in police custody, the trigger-happy police killing of Amirulrasyid, Teoh Beng Hock and Ahmad Sarbaini under the nose of MACC and the continuous political persecution of Anwar Ibrahim to mention a few. We know that whatever recommendation by the PSCE, just like the commission for the PDRM, will never be implemented.

He will go on to explain the status and achievements of the GTP, NKRA, ETP and 1 Malaysia, although he knows that these policies have achieved nothing except ridicule and controversies. He will put all the blame on the world's economy, the financial problems he inherited from previous prime ministers and the opposition who scared investors away. Thus he will ask the rakyat to give him more time to get all the policies into reality that will provide higher income and minimum wages without even the need of any legislature.

However the national debt at RM407 billion and the government overspending of RM3.73 billion as reported by the Auditor General complete with the details on the Gemas Shahrizat-link NFC debacle amounting to RM250 million ending with some "cows staying in a condominium", the Tourism Ministry overpaying RM270 million for advertisements and expensive display racks, the purchase of expensive night-vision binoculars by the Marine Department and so on won't be able to be painted white by Najib. He will mention that the government will take all the steps necessary to take those involved to task and improve the management and procurement procedures but he won't mention any serious involvement of the MACC, this would be disastrous for Umno/BN. He will not touch on the MAS-AirAsia share swap and TNB/IPP relations because MAS, like TNB, are not making money and have become a huge burden to the government and the rakyat.

Since he has nothing much to say because nothing much has been done and achieved by him thus far, and being cautious not to digress too much from the prepared speech he will just make a few announcements on the coming year-end bonus for "hard-working" civil servants and to maintain the subsidies on the selective goods and services, and the fact there will be no belt-tightening yet since the general election is just around the corner.

He will end the speech by wishing everybody a happy general assembly while eyeing Rosmah for approval.

Pak Lah’s sweet deal — BN Insider

NOV 15 — Cantiknya Pak Lah, defending Shahrizat Jalil and her family over the scandalous National Feedlot Centre project, just like his son-in-law.

There are several reasons why the former prime minister is defending Shahrizat. Firstly, it was his government which awarded this so-called high impact project which has turned out to be a cow-brained scheme, much like a lot of other projects during the sleepy era; for example, the economic corridors.

It is for this reason also that Muhyiddin Yassin is defending Shahrizat and the "National Fraudulent Project". He was the agriculture minister who endorsed the project and whose ministry gave the soft loan.

So mati-mati, these two Umno politicians have to defend them.

Secondly, Abdullah Badawi like Shahrizat's family is also a beneficiary of the government's generosity. For his wonderful performance as Malaysia's indecisive leader, he was given a huge bungalow next to Carcosa Seri Negara.

So it is only natural for Abdullah to defend a member of his administration and Najib's government who also got a sweetheart deal.

And I thought that politicians served their country out of loyalty and because of some calling. I wonder whether President Clinton or Lee Kuan Yew or Paul Keating were given houses on their retirement from office!!!

If Najib wanted to present Abdullah with a property then he should have tabled a motion in Parliament or at least informed taxpayers.

But I suppose Umno believes that they own everything in Malaysia and so they can apportion and reward themselves as they see fit.

By the way, can Muhyiddin clarify whether a member of his family is involved in the national biometric programme for foreign workers as alleged by some blogs?

Aisehman, I forgot lah that Umno politicians don't need to give a reason for anything because they own everything in Malaysia.

Mat Sabu - cop car hit me...

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu today took the stand at a public inquiry on the Bersih 2.0 rally, describing his accident with a police vehicle resulting in a leg injury that required surgery.

Addressing the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) panel today, Mohamad insisted that he was hit by a patrol car along Jalan Travers, near KL Sentral.

"I was riding pillion on the motorcycle which was heading downhill. The police patrol car, which came from the opposite direction, was on the wrong side of the road. It stopped (suddenly).

"My knee hit the front lamp of the Proton Waja resulting in the injury," said Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu. He said he was leaving the Mandarin Court Hotel and did not know that he was being tailed by the police.

Describing the incident in detail, Mat Sabu said two Proton Waja cars and a police vehicle then came from the opposite direction. Then one Waja swerved to block his path, resulting in his motorcycle rider also turning to avoid a collision.

"In swerving, the car hit the motorcycle and my knee. I fell flat on the ground. I could not stand up and the police quickly arrested me," he said.

Asked by S! uhakam c ommissioner Mahmood Zuhdi Ab Majid (left) whether the motorcycle had hit the police car or it was the other way round, the politician replied it was difficult to say as they were travelling downhill but the police car went over to their side of the road.

"It is difficult to answer the question as it is a matter of interpretation. But we did collide and I fell," he said, denying his knee injury was a result of the fall.

Following a public outcry over their handling of the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9 and claims of abuse, the police scrambled to deny the allegation that one of their vehicles had hit the motorcycle.

Federal Public Order and Internal Security Department director Salleh Rashid claimed there was no truth to this. Salleh said that CCTV footage showed that the motorcyclist had hit a road divider and that Mat Sabu had fallen off.

While the video does not show the motorcycle being struck, it does include a segment where a police 4WD vehicle chases two motorcycles, with the PAS politician riding pillion on one.

NONEFrom HKL to lock-up

Mat Sabu also told the inquiry that after he was arrested, he was brought to the Jinjang police station where he was referred to a doctor who cleaned up his wound.

The doctor, he said ordered the police to take him to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) due to the extent of his injury. "At HKL they took an X-ray and injected painkillers. The doctors claimed my ligament was damaged and they asked me to return two weeks later," he said.

"However, instead of being released, I was taken back to the Jinjang police station. There, I was placed in the lock-up. I told the police officers that I needed someone to assist me as I was not mobile. However, the police did not allocate an officer to me."

Mat Sabu said the police did assist him whenever he wanted to perform his ablutions and prayers. However he said he was not satisfied with them as he was placed in the lock-up upon returning from HKL despite being in severe pain.

Mat Sabu said he was released later that night after the police had recorded a statement from him. He added that he went to a private hospital where the specialist diagnosed that he was suffering from ligament damage and a fracture.

"The doctors operated on me on July 15," he said, adding the injury had caused him a lot of discomfort.

islamic studies prof in umNo notice served

Replying to questions from Malaysian Bar constitutional committee chairperson Syahredzan Johan, Mat Sabu said he did not carry any weapon to the Bersih 2.0 rally and in fact never carri! ed a wea pon.

Mat Sabu also dismissed suggestions that his motorcycle was in the way of the police cars or that the cars were evading some obstacles in front.

The PAS deputy president when questioned by police officer ACP Jamaluddin Abdul Rahman, denied he received a court order barring him and 90 others from entering Kuala Lumpur.

"I have heard about it in papers but I did not receive any notice. Anyway my office (the PAS headquarters) is in KL and I also have an office here," he said.

This just about sums it up !

Minimum pay in Selangor

  • No matter how brilliant a person is but if he choses to mislead others than he must be stupid to think that people don't understand what is really happening.  During the SSG budget presentation 2012, the MB announced that the government has announced a minimum pay scheme for its state GLC employees and at the same time given the impression that it is a big deal and is a first for the government.
  • Firstly, I would have taken my hats off to the MB had he implemented it among the State civil servants as that would really be infectious and send a chill among the BN legislatures. The message is simple. If PR can give minimum salary to its state employees than they would do the same when the rule the federal government and that alone is a good enough candy for some civil servants to switch their loyalty.
  • Unfortunately he only did it for the State GLC. Firstly there are very few GLC's in Selangor and the actual numbers that have a salary below RM1500 is really countable. The actual number of people that benefitted from this scheme is very few.  Clearly it is nothing more than a show than trying to help the needy in Selangor. The financial impact of this exercise to the state is zero as it does not involve state funds. It involved the respective GLC's monies. The same approach has been used to mislead the public on the Talam debt recovery exercise.
  • I feel PR supporters must send a strong message to the MB. Tell things as it is. Don't think that the people of Selangor are stupid. There are smart people out there in BN fold that would have switched their political alliance if the MB had showed things as it is and not do it in one way and portray it as another.

Istana Negara closes with pomp and pageantry

KUALA LUMPUR: After serving for 54 years, Istana Negara at Jalan Istana here, which is the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, today ended its function officially with pomp and pageantry.

The ceremony beginning at 9am, witnessed the marching in of the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) comprising two officers and 58 men of various ranks accompanied by the RAMD central band.

The ceremony continued with a team of flag-bearers comprising 10 members of the RAMD who lowered the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's private flag as the last post was being played to signify the shifting of Istana Negara at Jalan Istana to the Istana Negara in Jalan Duta.

Later, the ceremony continued with the procession of the flag-bearers with the ceremonial horse squadron to the palace main entrance to present the flag to Istana Negara Grand Chamberlain Tengku Farok Husin Tengku Abdul Jalil who represented Istana Negara in signifying the palace's completion of duty.

The flag was presented by acting RAMD First Battalion Officer in Command Major Mohd Kadri Abu Bakar.

As a symbolic closure of the monumental building with its golden dome, the Grand Chamberlain later directed Istana Negara officer Rosli Asri to lock the main entrance of the palace signifying all duties at Istana Negara had been completed before moving to the Istana Negara at Jalan Duta for another flag-raising ceremony.

The teams in attendance comprised RAMD First Battalion and the Ceremonial Horse Squadron with three officers and 69 men of various ranks with 12 horses.

Among those present to witness the flag lowering ceremony were senior deputy secretary-general of the Prime Minister's Department who is also the chairman of National Official Ceremony, Othman Mahmood; Armed Forces (ATM) Chief of Staff Lt Gen Raja Afandi Raja Mohd Nor and ATM's Deputy Chief of Staff Maj Gen Abdul Aziz Ibrahim.

Automated flag raiser

Meanwhile, at the Istana Negara in Jalan Duta (picture right), a ceremony to raise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's private flag began at 10.25am when the Grand Chamberlain handed over the flag to a team of flag- bearers to signify the commencement of duty of the Malaysian Armed Forces at the Jalan Duta Istana Negara square.

The new palace in tune with technology today uses an automated flag raiser unlike the manual approach at the old palace.

Istana Negara began shifting its operations to the new complex in Jalan Duta in stages since Oct 19 while the assignment of guards from ATM began today.

The 11.34 hectare old palace which was the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was originally a double-storey bungalow built in 1928 by a local Chinese millionaire, Chan Wing.

The bungalow was bought by the Selangor government and renovated to become the residence of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sir Hishamuddin Alam Shah.

The building which was made a palace for the Sultan of Selangor was later acquired by the federal government as the official residence of the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Rahman Tuanku Muhammad, a few weeks before the declaration of independence.

Meanwhile, the new Istana Negara built with Islamic and traditional Malay features is located on a 96.52 hectare site compared to the 11.34 hectare at the old palace.

It will witness the installation of the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah of Kedah, in December.

The Malay Mail ceases publication temporarily

PETALING JAYA: The Malay Mail today announced it was ceasing publication temporarily – and promised its readers and advertisers that it would be back in early January with a new look, new content and renewed energy.

The paper carried an unprecedented advertisement on the front page of today's edition. Running on the theme of "Survival", the advertisement highlighted the historical events that the paper has witnessed since its inception in 1896 – including "Two World Wars, Japanese Occupation, Communist Insurgency and multiple editorial crises".

The advert also carries a bold line that not many newspapers will readily acknowledge of themselves: "And worst of all we have let our readers down."

The message, however, ends in a decidedly upbeat tone by saying ,"But we survived it all. Come January 2012, we shall return with a new look, new content and a brand new energy".

In explaining the concept of "Survival" in the advertisement, The Malay Mail's chief executive officer, Phillip Karuppiah, said: "When we announced we were changing the business model of the paper to a paid morning daily, we informed our readers and advertisers that we would position the Malay Mail as a content provider that reports the news truthfully and factually without any fear or favour.

"We believe therefore that we owe it to our readers to tell the truth about ourselves too. Yes, we have let our readers down in the past and we intend to acknowledge it and make amends for it," he said.

"However, we also take great pride in the fact that The Malay Mail is one of the oldest newspapers in the country and is a national institution in the media industry. We have been through a lot over the years and survived. Ours is a story of resilience and we have that in our DNA.

"We intend to come back stronger than ever in January 2012 and we trust that our readers, advertisers and business partners will be very pleased with the final product," Phillip added.

Nay-sayers

The Malay Mail's edition today is the last as a free afternoon daily. The paper will return in January as a paid morning newspaper.

In an editorial in today's edition of the paper, The Malay Mail says: "When we announced about two months ago that The Malay Mail was going to go through another transformation, we were not want of critics and nay-sayers.

"But they cannot be blamed for their doubts, as this newspaper had undergone more than its fair share of rapid changes over the years. However, on the flip side of the coin, the reaction from both readers and advertisers is enthusiastic, with high expectations for another chapter in the history of this 115-year-old institution.

The paper also announced that readers would have to pay a cover price of RM1 for the new Malay Mail in January.

"We feel this is a small token our readers would not mind contributing as it will go a little way to help this paper deliver all the news that matters to a larger audience," said Terence Fernandez, the executive editor.

"This includes more comprehensive coverage of national, foreign, business, lifestyle, entertainment and sports news and wider coverage of community news as well as the award-winning Hotline that has become synonymous with The Malay Mail.

"More importantly, loyal readers of The Malay Mail can continue to expect the kind of investigative reports and exposé that the newspaper had built its credibility on," he said.

Readership profile

"Here we hope to broaden our approach from being The Paper That Cares to a paper that caters to a more demanding and sophisticated readership by providing in-depth reports and alternative views that challenge current norms. In other words, we're rethinking the news".

"This is crucial in our current landscape of a more cynical public who seldom take anything at face value," Terence added.

The paper also said that the transformation in editorial content and direction as well as a transition from a free to paid model will help better determine its readership profile and consequentially, offer advertisers a focused market audience.

As it goes off print for the next few weeks as work progresses on getting the new product off the ground, the paper will continue to maintain a web presence. A new website will be launched simultaneously with the launch of the new paid daily in January.

In the interim, readers can continue to get up to date news of the day from The Malay Mail website www.mmail.com.my.

Selangor should stand firm on zakat - Malaysiakini

Selangor should stand firm on zakat

VOXPOP 'Zakat money collection amounts to a few hundred million ringgit a year in Selangor, and the sultan wants it unaudited?'
Don: Dr M's way could have curbed royal intervention
Gerard Samuel Vijayan: The Pakatan Rakyat state government has two options.
It can table a new bill to repeal all the amendments made by the previous bill that was presented directly by the sultan to the Selangor Legislative Assembly without the consent and approval of the state government, in which case, the sultan will refuse to assent to the new bill but it does not matter since it will become law after 30 days.

But such an action will provoke a crisis with the palace which Umno wants in order to get Malay/Muslim votes come GE13.

The better option would be for the Pakatan to take the matter to the court of public opinion among the Malay/Muslim voters and argue that Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) is now beyond the control and oversight of the state government and only Allah SWT knows how the zakat (religious tithe) money is going to be spent since there is no need for any external auditing or reporting and even record keeping with regard to Mais.
Let the voters decide come GE13. If the Pakatan gets its two-thirds majority then it can repeal these unconstitutional and illegal amendments.
DNA: Zakat money collection amounts to a few hundred million ringgit a year in Selangor, and the sultan wants it unaudited?

Does the sultan know what he did is not correct? Was he misled by some idiots who have an interest in this zakat collection? I am very disturbed over this issue.Hang Babeuf: This quite remarkable, and ominous. If this move stands and goes unchallenged, then this stratagem will become the standard recourse in the post-2008 royal-led re-assertion of Malay primacy and ascendancy (ketuanan Melayu).

It will be available for wholesale use in the delegitimisation of any and all of the impending political changes heralded by the 2008 GE that the 'old guard' may find unpalatable.
The 'sovereignty' of the Malay rulers, projected in the form of their sole and exclusive responsibility in the management of Islam, will quickly prove a 'magical instrument' - a sword that nobody will dare oppose.
Joe Lee: Thank you, Professor Abdul Aziz Bari. Your forthrightness and integrity are very admirable, considering that the Umno-compromised press and judiciary are as quiet as mice on this.
Never mind - once we have a Pakatan government, we'll roll back all this blatantly feudal stuff.
The sultans will have to understand that sovereignty actually lies in the will of the people, through the ballot box. Their role is to be a 'constitutional monarch' - nothing more, nothing less.
And the sultans shall defer to what the duly elected government of the day decides, not the other way round. There are no two ways about it.

We are either a democracy or we are a feudal entity from 500 years ago. The choice is clear.
Borg Kinaulu: The Selangor government has made a serious mistake. Pakatan should have stood firm on its principles and not compromise or try to beat BN to see who is more 'ultra' - i.e. who is the champion for race and religion.
Pakatan is correct in refusing to submit to race-based demands by certain parties. PKR is right to insist that hudud has no place in our secular constitution, but why is it so soft when it comes to the sultans?
The roles of the royals under the constitutions are figurative. Their power is limited to fringe matters.

Is PKR admitting that its leaders lack the charisma of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to bring the people behind them to put the royals in their respective places?

People first. The sultans are not even second, or third. Playing by Umno's rules is plain stupid.

No settlement for Mkini vs Taib, trial to proceedFear God Not Man: The MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) should have earlier come up with their findings on where and how Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud got all his wealth from?

Why is MACC keeping quiet?

Indelible ink: Pakatan will back amendment

KUALA LUMPUR: Any move to amend the Federal Constitution allowing the use of indelible ink for elections will have Pakatan Rakyat's backing.

If such a motion is tabled in the current Parliament session, the government will have Pakatan's endorsement, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim told reporters.

At the same time, he claimed that Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail's argument that indelible ink cannot be used without amending the law was a delaying tactic.

"But we agree to support the amendment if done immediately and tabled within this sitting.

"We want the AG to immediately draft the amendment and put it through this Dewan Rakyat sitting," he said after chairing the bloc's presidential council meeting in his Parliamentary office.

The use of indelible ink is one of the key reform demands made by polls reform group Bersih 2.0 with the backing of the opposition camp.

It was reported that the Parliamentary Select Committee on election reforms had asked Gani to explain why was there a need to amend the constitution for the method to be implemented.

He was reported to have insisted that the Federal Constitution disallowed authorities to force a voter to be marked with permanent ink although the panel members unanimously agreed the method could be easily implemented.

Amendments to the constitution require a two-thirds majority or 148 members out of the 222-member Parliament. The ruling Barisan Nasional currently has 137 MPs while Pakatan has 76.

There was an initial plan to adopt the use of indelible ink but the Election Commission backpedalled in the last minute.

The commission's explanation that there were "security issues" concerning the use of the ink after it was purchased from India at a cost of RM2.4 million failed to convince the opposition and election watchdogs.

Anwar today claimed that the last-minute change cost his coalition 15 federal seats although he provided no evidence to back this.

azlanPakatan Rakyat will throw its weight behind a constitutional amendment to implement indelible ink for voters in elections if that is what the government insists on.

"The attorney-general (AG) has said that a provision of the constitution must be amended if indelible ink is to be used.

"So, we decided today that we want to the AG to immediately draft the amendment and put it through this Dewan Rakyat sitting," Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said after chairing a Pakatan presidential council meeting at Parliament House today.

AG Abdul Gani Patail had said that Article 119 of the Federal Constitution had to be amended if the use of indelible ink in elections was to be implemented.

Pakatan says will back constitutional changes to allow indelible ink

By Shannon Teoh
The Malaysian Insider
Nov 15, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 — The federal Opposition said today it will support amendments to the Constitution to allow the use of indelible ink in future elections.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told reporters today that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will back such a proposal if it is tabled in Parliament during the current session.

"The Attorney-General (AG) has said it cannot be done without amendments. This is just a trick to delay.

"But PR agrees to support the amendments if they are done immediately and tabled within this sitting," the opposition leader said.

The Malaysian Insider reported last week that the parliamentary select committee on electoral reform summoned Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to explain why the government cannot use indelible ink — a key demand by polls reform movement Bersih — in a general election expected soon.

A source said the nine-man committee unanimously agreed that marking voters to avoid multiple voting could be implemented.

However, the source said the country's top lawyer has insisted the Federal Constitution does not allow the authorities to force a voter to be marked with permanent ink.

Amendments to the Constitution require a two-thirds majority or 148 members out of the 222-member Parliament.

The ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) currently has 137 MPs while PR has 76.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang also stressed that PR's stand is that the use of indelible ink does not require a constitutional amendment "but if the AG insists, we are willing to give our support."

The EC had initially planned to use indelible ink, bought at a cost of RM2.4 million, for the 2008 general election but backed out at the last minute, citing public order and security issues.

PKR de facto leader Anwar has claimed that the last-minute change cost his coalition 15 federal seats.

Keep it up! — Lim Mun Fah

NOV 15 — I was recently invited to an event jointly held by five Chinese independent high schools in Sibu.

Although separated by the South China Sea, the fate of Chinese independent high schools in Sarawak is as frustrating as those located in the peninsula.

Sarawak used to have 18 Chinese secondary schools but under a restructuring plan in 1961, 12 of them chose to transform into English schools while the remaining six became independent high schools.

Another eight Chinese independent high schools were set up during the period 1962 to 1968 and the schools have encountered difficulties all these years.

Take Sibu as an example, 70 per cent of its 200,000 population are Chinese. However, there are five Chinese independent high schools in that area and the largest one has only about 900 students. The second largest has about 400 students while the other three schools have fewer than 100 students.

You might find it hard to imagine how a Chinese independent high school with fewer than 100 students survives and develops.

With less than two acres of school grounds, there could only be two double-storey school buildings, a covered basketball court and a canteen.

One of the schools is located in a small area with a small population. With the competition from other secondary schools, the Chinese independent high school has to struggle hard to survive. Its school board chairman told me that board directors and the school principal have to promote the school door to door every year to attract students. They also have to give offers like free tuition fees for the first year for the school's survival.

It is surprising that under such a difficult situation, the school can still survive for 65 years! Also, having only junior high school classes so far, the school is planning to have high school classes next year under the leadership of its headmistress.

Another two Chinese independent high schools in Sibu are facing similar difficulties. One of them is a free full-day school and it provides free lunch. However, it has only about 80 students. The school tried once to charge tuition fees and the number of fresh students dropped dramatically to 10, causing it to resume full-tuition fee exemption the next year. To overcome difficulties, the school even plans to attract students in the peninsula.

About 2,000 students complete their primary education in Chinese primary schools each year, but only 10 per cent of them choose to study in Chinese independent high schools. It is indeed a big challenge for Chinese independent high schools to change parents' perception and persuade them to send their children to study in Chinese independent high schools.

Commendably, despite the difficulties, the board of directors of the five Chinese independent high schools in Sibu are still enthusiastic and they are also holding a firm and strong belief. Their spirit is indeed impressive! — mysinchew.com

Massive rail links to connect Klang Valley

PETALING JAYA: Trains will form the backbone of the Klang Valley's public transport network, with three My Rapid Transit (MRT) lines and several other rail proposals on the way.

According to a draft of the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley Public Transport Master Plan, buses would be used to support these lines, with taxis to "fill in the gaps".

"Rail will be the future of the (public transport) network… Bus will support the rail system by providing feeder services to rail services and by providing services in the secondary corridors not served by rail," the draft said.

The future rails were specified as: MRT2 Circle Line; MRT3 North-South Line; Freight Relief Line; LRT (Light Rail Transit) 3: Kelana Jaya-Klang; Putrajaya Monorail; and LRT4: Outer Orbital Line.

The draft said that the MRT2 Circle Line would cater for orbital movements around KL, linking up areas such as Mid Valley, Mont Kiara, Sentul Timur, Ampang and "proposed developments" such as Matrade.

It added that the Circle Line would be developed in at least two phases, with a large portion of it "likely to be underground".

The first, it said, would involve the western and southern sections of KL linking Ampang with Mid Valley, Matrade and Sentul. The second phase of this line, the draft added, would connect Ampang with Sentul Timur.

"Subject to technical feasibility, an initial estimate suggests a length of 29km for phase one with 22 stations. The second phase would be 12km with eight stations," it said of the Circle Line.

Developing areas

The MRT2 North-South Line, the draft said, was being proposed to link developing areas such as Sungai Buloh, Kepong and Selayang with the eastern part of KL's city centre, which were noted as Kampung Baru and the KL International Financial District.

It added that the North-South Line may have the potential to interchange with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) and the upcoming 53-km-long MRT1 Sungai Buloh-Kajang line.

The draft also said that a link to Pandan was proposed through this line, calling the area a "transit gap". In the long run, the line could be extended towards Serdang and Putrajaya "depending on the developments in that area".

"In total, this would be a 36km line served by 24 stations… where the line operates in the city centre, it is proposed that this should be underground," it said.

Two LRT lines were also identified in the draft. The first (LRT3) would link the current Kelana Jaya RapidKL line with Klang, going through Shah Alam in the process.

Its tracks, the draft added, would complement the current Klang-KL KTM Komuter route "along a parallel alignment", and would supposedly leave the Komuter's areas alone.

The Outer Orbital Line, on the other hand, would link areas such as Gombak and Damansara to Petaling Jaya, citing parts of Petaling Jaya to be choked with congestion.

On this, the draft said that this line "should be" considered after 2020, and that its intended corridor was not yet defined.

Operational constraints

Other lines include the Putrajaya Monorail, which would link the Federal Territory with Putrajaya Sentral and the Express Rail Line (ERL), and the Freight Relief Line, which would supposedly remove freight trains from using passenger train paths during the day.

Upgrades to existing KTMB lines (Klang, Seremban, Rawang, Batu Caves) connecting them with KL Sentral were also noted down.

KTMB trains on the Klang-KL Sentral line, the draft noted, were targeted for a five-minute frequency period. Currently, these periods last between 15 and 30 minutes, with delays sometimes lasting for twice as long.

This period length was also proposed for the Seremban-KL Sentral line. A 7.5-minute period was proposed for Batu Caves and Rawang, citing "operational constraints".

Prepared by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), the draft was released on its website on Nov 13. It is also available on its website at: http://www.spad.gov.my/en/projects/pub-trans-master-frame.html

Isu Kompleks Sukan PKNS Dibangkitkan di DUN Selangor

Pagi ini YAB Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim telah menjawab pertanyaan mulut saya di Dewan Undangan Negeri Selangor.

Pertanyaan mulut saya:

Kita dakwa DAP, PKR takut umum calon awal

Muhyiddin what do you mean "especially among our own people."

Shahrizat need not quit over cattle fiasco, says DPM

UPDATED @ 02:19:49 PM 15-11-2011
By Lisa J. Ariffin
November 15, 2011

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 15 — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today that Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil is not directly involved in National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), the cattle-farming project managed by the minister's family, and doesn't need to resign from the Cabinet.

He said this in response to Umno's Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin's call yesterday in the Dewan Rakyat that those responsible for the NFC fiasco sh! ould res ign.

Allegations of financial impropriety have dogged the company owned by Shahrizat's family after the Auditor-General revealed last month that the NFC had failed to meet production targets for 2010, despite benefiting from a RM134.72 million soft loan from the government.

"He (Bung Moktar) didn't say directly that Shahrizat (picture) is involved because this is a business that is run by her family, but she is not involved," Muhyiddin told reporters.

However, he said Bung Moktar's resignation call was unnecessary "especially among our own people".

"The minister of agriculture and agro-based industry (Datuk Seri Noh Omar) has responded in Parliament, and it has been discussed and explained in detail for more than one hour and should be well received," he said.

"Whether it is right (to call for resignation) Datuk Bung Moktar can think for himself," he added.

Muhyiddin said the issue has raised many questions and the company involved would have to come up with its own explanation.

He said a thorough explanation would help people understand the issue better.

He also said the company should be given the chance to respond to what was said in the Auditor-General's Report.

"It is up to them," he said.

The Auditor-General's Report, released last month, had criticised the NFC, pointing out that it was now "in a mess".

The report said production in 2010 was only 3,289 head of cattle or 41.1 per cent of the target set.

But Noh Omar responded on October 31 by saying that the project was a success and had met its targets.

*******************************************************************************************

Muhyiddin has to explain clearly what he meant "especially among our own people."

Does he mean that UMNO elite can do what they like with our money?

Johoreans I hope you know what you getting from this ass-hole.

Me think this ass-hole should be shot dead before he divide us further.

'King of the good times' facing $ 1b debt

The party may be over for India's "King of Good Times", Vijay Mallya, the flamboyant tycoon whose Kingfisher Airlines is threatened with collapse.

Mr Mallya's billionaire lifestyle has been a symbol of India's soaring fortunes since he launched his airline in 2005, and a factor in his reputation as "India's Richard Branson".

He owns a fleet of luxury vintage cars, bought his own Formula One racing team, Force India, sails a $ 100 million yacht in the Arabian Sea, and hand picks "models" as hostesses for his Kingfisher Airlines.

Other models adorn the glossy pages of his Kingfisher Calendar while the garden of one his luxury homes is said to feature a life-size statue of the Bollywood actress and Big Brother star Shilpa Shetty.

Three years ago, Kingfisher Airlines launched a Mumbai to London Heathrow service to much fanfare, which has been followed up with a Delhi to London flight.

His acquisitions have included Britain's Whyte and Mackay distillers, which make the Dalmore and Jura single malt whiskies, and the French winemaker Bouvet-Ladubay, one of the world's largest producers of sparkling wine.

But today the "King of Good Times" appears to have lost his touch as the airline that lent glamour to his otherwise portly, primped appearance has nosedived under mounting debts.

Both private banks and government officials have ruled out a rescue package for India's second largest carrier. Kingfisher is reported to owe more than $ 1 billion in loans to Indian banks and is losing key staff as salaries go unpaid.

Travel agents are now advising passengers to boycott the airline in favour of rivals after a slew of cancelled Kingfisher flights.

Signs that Mr Mallya's debt crisis was mounting emerged earlier this year when he announced he was closing the low-budget Kingfisher Red airline to focus on a "full-service" operation.

But fears for the airline have intensified amid increased flight cancellations.

Last month, Mr Mallya put on a brave face to announce a deal for a rival tycoon to become an equal partner in Force India in exchange for a £60 million investment on the eve of India's first Grand Prix.

Leading Indian business figures said last night that they had sympathy for Mr Mallya, but it was a symptom of India's wider growth story.

Gopichand Hinduja, of the London-based Hinduja Group, said Mr Mallya had been a good brand ambassador for India, and that it was unfortunate Kingfisher had hit problems just as doubts over the country's "growth story" had halted major foreign investments.

He said airlines such as Kingfisher were key strategic assets for Indian business and tourism but all but a few were losing money because of high fuel prices and taxes.

The government should rescue the whole airline industry, he said.

"Vijay Mallya is a good friend of my family and has always presented India well. There should be a policy which can help with loan repayments," he said.

Subodh Agrawal, the London-based merchant banker who finances Indian takeovers, said while Mr Mallya might be flagging now, he believed Kingfisher's cancellations were part of a strategy to reconfigure his airliners and ! complete his withdrawal from the loss-making low-cost flight sector.

"India is going to suffer, but it isn't a story which has gone bad. In the long run the growth potential is huge. It is a smart move by Mallya to get out of low cost airlines," he said.

The "King of Good Times" would be back, he added.

Telegraph, London

The way UMNOputras and Sultans are skimming our money, we do curse and pray that Allah will show them the way similar to Vijay Mallya.

Methinks this Sultan of Selangor does too much AGAIN!

The fixed, false belief that one possesses
superior qualities such as genius, fame,
omnipotence, or wealth. Can be a symptom
of paranoid or manic disorders (and!
sometimes dementia). People with this
disorder also have a taste for the finer,
more extravagant things/actions. This
disorder is commonly known as megalomania.
Sometimes drug abuse can intensify or
bring on these sorts of episodes. This is
a very dangerous condition.

GILLIAN FOURNIER

It irks me to think that the Sultan of Selangor
has Delusion of Grandeur with regard to the
role he plays in the governance of HIS state
Selangor! HIS state Selangor? And his role as
head of Islam in HIS state?

PETALING JAYA: It's a bitter pill to swallow for many
Selangor assemblymen now that the government may
have lost control over the state's Islamic administrative
matters and the estimated tens of millions of ringgit in
annual zakat collections.
The amendments made in July seemingly allowed the
state's Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) to be
accountable only to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan
Sharafudin Idris Shah, bypassing the state government
in the process.
The amendments affected the Administration of the
Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003.

FMT previously reported that Selangor state
assemblymen allegedly received a letter from the
Sultan at the July 11 state assembly sitting,
commanding them to agree to these amendments.
Caught by surprise and fearing a constitutional
crisis in the event of a refusal, Pakatan state
assemblymen allowed the amendments to be
passed without a hitch.
Currently, the Sultan has the power to appoint
the MAIS chairman, deputy chairman and "not
fewer than eight other members" to the council.
MAIS also consists of five ex-officio (automatic)
members – the state secretary, state legal adviser,
state financial officer, the mufti and the chief police
officer.
According to the anonymous state assemblyman,
the building and administration of mosques and suraus
were also affected by the amendments.
JAIS, as well as the state government, he claimed,
would have to spend money to build them, while the
administration of these buildings would fall under
MAIS' purview.

Who told him that Selangor is HIS state? Just
because he was born into the role of Sultan
does not make any state HIS state!

Somebody better tell him that the life of
decadence he now leads is bankrolled by
the taxes p! aid by t he people of Selangor
and others. Somebody better tell him that
he does not earn his keep!

Like the mistresses being kept by BN politicians,
he too is being kept in clover and grandeur by
the hard earned money from others! And while
these mistresses gives sexual pleasure and
gratification to their masters this Sultan of
Selangor is a parasite of the highest order for
he never gives anything back to his benefactors.

And like the over 1000 parasites that can wreck
havoc on our bodies and live all over the human
body - in the blood and all organs including the
brain and in our eyes and sinus and anus – this
Sultan of Selangor must be put in his place before
he wrecks havoc over HIS state of Selangor by his
dalliances into the politics of HIS state!

The parasite genital protoza lives in the female
vagina and urethra and causes a slightly yellow
discharge with itching and burning. I think it is
time that this parasite of a Sultan go find HIS female
vagina and make like a parasite and stay out of
matters that does not concern him.

By the manner he chooses to lives his sordid life
he has forfeited any right to have anything to do
with Islam in HIS state! Do you want the head of
Islam in Selangor to fornicate around with ladies
of dubious persuasion? I believe that ISLAM forbids
what this Sultan is now doing – fornicating around
– so why is he allowed to meddle in matters of Islam?

Woi Sultan go stand in front of the mirror and see
yourself as others see you! A useless appendage
of the Malays race that contributes towards nothing
more then the decline and fall of the Malays.

What dignity you could possibly bring to your
throne was lost many years ago when you choose
to live your life no better then the life of those
cursed and spoilt with the dubious honor of having
other people pay for the useless life they lead. You
have earned not a single cent to pay for the useless
life you lead then, now and for the foreseeable future.

Before you are further embarrassed by the exposure
of your past and present follies I would suggest that
you stop to think whether doing the bidding of
UMNO will do you any good. You simply do not have
the acumen to understand that you are being used
by UMNO for its own ends. True you do have need
of the few millions here and the few millions there
that UMNO throws your way every now and then
but I would suggest that you are already living the
good life being a parasite. Begging for the few
millions here and the few million there that UMNO
throws your way will not do you any good once
the people decides that it is time that they do
away with you and your parasitic way!

So Sultan cease and desist your interference
in the governance of YOUR state! I was born in
Segambut and Selangor is MY state. I do not want
the likes of you to think that I will be quiet when
you begin! to have these delusion of grandeur
thinking that you are a reborn Sultan of Selangor
who has come riding on a white stallion to save
Selangor from a PKR state government and return
it back to UMNO. It would be far better for you to
be like a stallion and go service the mares that are
waiting in the stables – is that not what you like
doing now?

Step back and stop yourself from thinking that you
would want to play any role in the government of
Selangor. For now we will put up with you being a
parasite in our midst –though unlike the other
parasites – it would seem that you lead a very
comfortable and decadent life style. Be like a
tree and make yourself inconspicuous and stay
out of our consciousness. To do otherwise might
invite the wrath of the people in YOUR state and
might shorten your rule as Sultan. Understand?
