Getting "stoned" on live tv !

Below are just a few random comments I want to highlight from some ordinary folks here and around the world on religious sensitivities which some in Malaysia would have made a mountain of an issue, enough for Ibrahim Ali to warrant a "jihad" ! But I guess nobody, nowhere in the world is as idiotic as Ib and his merry morons, right ? Go read the full article at the end of these selected comments ;

I'm a muslim woman and fasting at the moment, but it certainly doesn't 'offend' me if other people continue their normal activities around me such as having tea or snacking, that's their prerogative! Maybe I wouldn't go out for a lunch and sit through others eating a full meal. but the onus is definitely on me to decline. Also if the pastry was on the same plate and hence perhaps cooked with the pork sausage, Tamsin, as a muslim shouldn't be parting in this - so really even within muslims there are many who differ in observing the rules.

A lot of fuss over very little I think. A fellow teacher was a Hindu, in a predominantly white school, but the pupils all wished him Merry Christmas, sent him cards and asked what his children were getting. He didn't take offense, he smiled and said thank you, if questioned about his plans for the break, he might explain his beliefs, but he was never upset. The same seems to have applied to this man. Too much of the racial trouble is stirred by other people taking offense on behalf of someone else!

I'm a Muslim and ! I don't take any offense if someone offers me pork or anything that my faith forbids me to consume. I'll just say thank you but I can't take that. It's the same if you're a vegetarian, I wouldn't know if you don't tell me. Names doesn't indicate so much of anything these days. You can be called Dylan and be a Muslim or you can be called Ahmad and be a non-Muslim. People need to chill a bit.

Oh so what, it is his choice to do Ramadan, he can't expect everyone else to say no or expect the programme producers to change the format, just because of one guy!! I am sure he wasn't offended or bothered by it, it may have made him feel a bit peckish but hey, it isn't the end of the world, get over it already. We cannot mollycoddle everyone with a different religious belief, they didn't belittle him or force him to eat it - so no harm done. Our general religion in England isn't one where we have ramadan, so it isn't really our problem.

Inspired by Farish Noor's essay published on Walski's blog...

My blogbuddy Walski published a very good essay by everyone's favorite academic, Farish A. Noor, on his myAsylum blog. I was prompted to leave a long comment which I have fleshed out and prettied up as a short essay fit for posting!

Bogus gods spawn bogus monarchies, and bogus monarchies create bogus aristocracies, which then give rise to bogus ministers and administrations. Bog help us!

Unlike Farish Noor whose academic roots ground him in the empirical approach to truth-speaking, my own perspective on "reality" (and, incidentally, the word "real" itself means very little unless one understands it as pertaining to true royalness or regality; in effect, to be honorable, noble and in total integrity) is not necessarily confined to the flatlands of 3rd dimensional physicality.

Our sensory organs and scientific instruments can only access approximately 0.01% of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. 99.99% of "reality" occurs in what we might call the realm of metaphysics - the domain of tho! ughts, f eelings, ideas and memories unbounded by our familiar spacetime continuum.

Indeed, we began as omnidimensional extensions of the Unified Field of Consciousness (call it GOOD if you will, not GOD!) but voluntarily stepped ourselves down deeper and deeper into static density and specific gravity in order to experience and explore the weird and wonderful worlds of form and structure.

Being trapped for millions of millennia in ever more compressed energy packets made us forget our original limitlessness. Limits became "the norm" for us and we began taking boundaries too seriously.

The first boundary we take too seriously is our personal ego, our definition of individual existence.

The second boundary pertains to our concept of kinship, our blood relations and extended family or clan.

The third boundary is called the tribe, and the fourth is the collectivity of tribes that constitutes our sense of nationhood.

As we evolve to the fifth boundary and see ourselves as inhabitants of various biocultural regions (Asia, Europe, North and South America, and so on), we begin to approach planetary consciousness as global citizens.

One more step and we attain galactic alignment, i.e., the awareness that our nearest star is a member of hundreds of billions of stars that comprise our local galaxy.

I wonder what Ibrahim Ali would do if offered galactic citizenship - despite his obvious unsuitability for such an adventure, at his present level of consciousness. There's nothing problematic about Ibrahim Ali as potential GOOD in human form; however, the software he's running became obsolete several generations ago. Well, he has until 28 October 2011 to upgrade his operating system - and until 21 December 2012 to integrate it with the impending quantum shift that will propel humanity beyond win-lose zero-sum games into workable win-win scenarios.

Post BUM2011: Desi went MIA, here's intimate sharing:)

Dear buddies, esp some new found "friends" meeting for the first time at BUM2011 on July 24 -- esp one Bayi, from Ipoh, yes? -- and a bunch of youngsters of whom I remember one name -- Jason, how art thou? -- I have to share some intimations a byte.

Normally, BUMmers -- those who commit themselves to what Bloggers Uinverse Malaysia is all about -- are warm,back-patting and sometimes more than a little loud, but Desi was a little too laid back, sometimes even appearing "arrogant" to those who know me not wellA, on July 24, the culmination of three heart months of slaving by the BUM2011 Organising Committeee.

I mus fess up three weaks later my only "excuse" was that I was not in the pink of health for one-1/2months preceding, even at the kick-off evening forum on June 11 at the KLSCAH!

Can I impose on my readers to berar with Desi in carrying on in Verse that I am notorious for -- some of my ER think I am femail and aged 30s! -- as I spice my Midnight Voices abode with some poems, ye, even love ones,:) and hate wans:(.

God sometimes shuts down our systems
so we can do a pause, longer than a pause, Linger

To check the parts at random to see if they still fit
and play their part

'Missing' maids may delay Anwar's Sodomy II trial...

Following the surprise show up of premier Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor on Friday for interviews by lawyers representing Anwar Ibrahim in his Sodomy II trial, it still remains to be seen whether the trial will proceed.

The defence still has six witnesses to interview including former IGP Musa Hassan (right) and the two former Indonesian maids of condo owner Hasanuddin Abdul Hamid.

Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair told Malaysiakini that according to investigating officer Supt Jude Blacious Pereira, the maids, Suliati and Fitria Dipan, have returned to Indonesia and police have yet to locate them.

"The prosecution will have to report to court tomorrow on when they can make all the remaining witnesses available to the defence.

"The understanding in court is that until all the witnesses offered to the defence are made available and interviewed, Anwar's defence cannot proceed. Hence the onus is still on the prosecution to produce them," Sankara emphasised.

Protest at Anwar's presence

On Tuesday, the court dismissed the objection made by the prosecution who protested Anwar's presence when Musa and former Malacca police chief Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof declined to be interviewed.

So far, the defence has interviewed 19 witnesses including Najib, Rosmah and former Malacca police chief Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof, who was Najib's aide-de-camp when he was the deputy prime minister.

However Najib, Rosmah, and Rodwan, when met by the defence on Friday, said they did not want to be Anwar's defence witnesses and declined to answer the questions posed.

Anwar has alleged that Najib and Rosmah had conspired to thwart his political ambitions, jus! t as he was running for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, when his wife and PKR president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail resigned. This follows the claim that the two had allegedly met complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, two days before the alleged sodomy incident.

The defence had interviewed five witnesses several weeks earlier and they included former national athlete Mumtaz Jaafar, said to be a close friend of Rosmah, Khairil Annas Jusoh, the former special officer to Najib when he was the deputy premier, and Pusrawi Hospital's Dr Mohamad Osman Abdul Hamid, who was the first to examine Saiful. Hospital Kuala Lumpur's Dr Anantha Raj Daniel and Saiful's sister Saidati have also been interviewed.

Besides Musa and the two former maids, the other three whom have yet to be interviewed are Saiful's fomer fiance's mother Sharehah Md Salim, Pusrawi hospital nurse Yazihan Jusoh, and Anwar's bodyguard Mohd Rasid Mohd Rosdi.

Why I called off the MoCS rally?

So this is how it ended an anti-climax. I am also very disappointed with my decision. But I have to make one for MoCS.

Only God knows why I finally decided to call it off.

This Red Rally has grown bigger than I could ever imagine. MoCS is just a mosquito outfit and I was caught by surprise at the tremendous response and the outpouring of support for our movements Walk for Democracy and Reform today.

The past month has been a confrontation with the police when it should have been the termite. Its not worth it in this case. The real enemy is not the police.

Deputy Commissioner Law Hong Soon advised me to think over the responsibility and burden on me personally (and not on MoCS because legally, MoCS does not even exist although we managed to register the name as a company.)

I have thought this over and over again. Personally, I have no experience in organising a public rally of this scale (contesting an election is different and easier). Anyone gets hurt, injured or maimed, I am responsible. Anyone gets arrested, I will be responsible.

I feel responsible for my fellows and friends. The eight who were served the restraining order (RO) are all my good friends. One is a cousin. Even Mohd Salleh Ahmed who has absolutely nothing to do with MoCS was somehow caught in the crossfire. He is a businessman and I dont wish to bring trouble to him, family and business or any of my friends.

I have to be honest and say that if any of the eight were to be arrested because of the rally, I have no personal resources to help in any way.

I do not reside in Kuching. It would be totally irresponsible of me to just come back to my home town, organise a rally, get friends and supporters into trouble and then leave them in the lurch. That will be the last thing I will do.

Hurting insults

So far, no one here or elsewhere has tol! d me tha t they would assist should anything happen to the eight served with the RO. Here again, the burden is on me.

Those who slammed me for calling off the rally will never understand what my friends in MoCS and I have to go through. Its so easy to instigate and provoke. But where were these people when we needed them? None offered MoCS anything other than mere words.

In their comfort zone, they have started lambasting me in web portals and blogs. This was expected.

Here are a few samples:

Francis Siah bo lan pa. Coward. Full of excuses. Why cant he walk alone?

No guts to do, dont talk so loud. You should know whats coming even before you announce the rally, why back off now, citing a flimsy excuse of public safety? If you dont march, there will be more longer-term, more entrenched danger to public safety, and the arrests will still continue. Coward!

I wont pretend by saying that Im not hurt by those insults.

The only thing I can do to console myself is to consciously feel that these critics will never be able to accomplish what we have so far. These people will never lift a finger to help if MoCS gets into trouble or face constraints. They just sit comfortably in front of their PCs and enjoy hurling insults at others. So why should I worry so much!

Im glad Im not a politician running for public office. I do not need public support to attain a political goal. Why bother whether they want to support me or not?

Time for others to lead

Today, Aug 13, is the first anniversary of MoCS. I recall this day one year ago when I sat down together with See Chee How and Jasmine at a press conference at Kuching Airport to announce the establishment of MoCS.

Little did I realize how difficult and turbulent the journey would be. I have no experience too in heading an NGO. But it was one hell of a ride, and unfortunately, an expensive one too.

I had also given my word t! o the or iginal eight initiators of MoCS that I would take a year off work to head MoCS.

I also recall that I would set a one-year time frame, perhaps a too ambitious one, to lead the MoCS campaign to oust the termite within 12 months.

The deadline is up today and Ive failed to get rid of that old insect. But Ive kept my word and today, Ive completed my term.

Now its time to pass the baton.

Yes, change we can.

Lim Guan Eng's Penang is getting back its mojo...

When the Democratic Action Party won the states legislative assembly three years ago, it became the first opposition party to triumph in Penang in more than 40 years. The victory presented a direct challenge to the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition that has ruled the country continuously since independence in 1957.

Penangs new leader, Lim Guan Eng, says that the federal government has an ambivalent attitude towards him, cutting off some funding but not undermining his authority. They dont want us to get any credit, but they cant afford to see us fail.

The revival of Penang was already under way in 2008, but Mr Engs new policies have helped it along. He has become the first governor in Malaysia to open up all state tenders to competition. This has entailed dismantling the special preferences for ethnic Malays that have underpinned the BNs rule since the early 1970s.

That was when the Malay majority institutionalised affirmative action for themselves, to the disadvantage of ethnic Chinese (a majority in Penang), who were perceived to have got unduly rich. Mr Eng claims that by reforming the system he has ended the cronyism and corruption that wasted money under previous regimes.

Adapted to the national stage, such policies could transform the way that the Malaysian federal government conducts business. Mr Eng says that the savings he has made by ending the old systems of patronage allow him to spend money on new social programmes instead, such as modest handouts for the elderly. These policies are popular, and the assault on corruption pleases foreign investors. Little wonder, then, that Penang has become a political weathervane as much as a lesson in economic development.

Naik turun pembangunan negeri

Kejayaan asal Pulau Pinang pasca-Merdeka bermula apabila negeri itu berstatus pelabuhan bebas cukai atau zon perdagangan bebas yang telah berjaya menarik kemasukan pelabur-pelabur global yang besar seperti Intel dan Bosch dalam tahun-tahun 1970-an.

Kerajaan Pusat kemudian menarik balik status bebas cukai dan Pulau Mutiara terpaksa bergantung kepada zon kilang-kilang yang kebanyakannya menawarkan peluang pekerjaan kepada pekerja tidak mahir.

Pentadbiran Barisan Nasional melalui teraju Gerakan tetapi dikawal oleh UMNO gagal membangunkan Pulau Pinang secara berkesan. Walau pun kemajuan fizikal masih hebat speanjang 1980-an hingga akhir 1990-an, ia mengakibatkan keciciran di kalangan golongan miskin bandar dan penduduk luar bandar.

  Di dalam tentatif program tercatat nyanyian lagu ALHAMDULILLAH dan ALLAH AKBAR di mana SOPHIA berhujah mereka berhak menggunakan kalimah tersebut kerana tidak dilarang Kerajaan.

  Turut terdapat di dalam program tersebut ialah soalan kuiz perkara-p! erkara a sas tentang Islam untuk menilai sejauhmana kefahaman mereka terhadap Islam yang dibuang di dalam tong sampah di dalam dewan tersebut. Antara soalan kuiz ialah 'Apakah maksud perkataan Islam?', 'Apakah maksud perkataan Quran?'.

  Beberapa orang disyaki Melayu/islam cuba keluar melalui pintu belakang premis berkenaan.

  Pemeriksaan terhadap individu di dalam dewan dibuat selepas rundingan kira-kira sejam dengan pihak penganjur yang menggunakan "delay tactic" untuk menyembunyi/menghapus bahan bukti.

  Hasil pemeriksaan mendapati seramai 12 individu beragama Islam berada di dalam dewan tersebut iaitu 3 lelaki dan 9 perempuan yang rata-ratanya tinggal di sekitar Ampang, Puchong, Petaling Jaya dan Seputeh termasuk dari Alor Setar dan Muar. Terdapat juga dari kalangan mereka yang turut membawa anak-anak kecil.
  

Apa yang ingin Tukang Screw pertikaikan dalam kejadian ini ialah beberapa perkara yang menimbulkan seribu satu persoalan dan tanda tanya, iaitu:-

Mengapa penganjur menyatakan majlis tersebut adalah majlis berbuka puasa tetapi penganjur pada awalnya menafikan kehadiran orang Islam dalam majlis tersebut dan dalam aturcara program jelas mencatatkan bahawa majlis itu ialah "Thanks Giving Dinner" yang jelas berunsurkan Kristian?

Mengapa hanya orang Islam yang dijemput khas telah hadir ke majlis tersebut dan ianya dibuat secara tertutup di gereja yang turut dihadiri bukan Islam?

Mengapa bunga manggar diletakkan dipintu masuk dewan?

Mengapa jemputan yang hadir memakai baju Melayu, kurung dan kebaya?

Mengapa terdapat 3 orang Islam cuba melarikan melalui pintu belakang?

Mengapa wujud nyanyian lagu ALHA! MDULILLA H dan ALLAH AKBAR dalam aturcara program?

Mengapa soalan kuiz tentang Islam diberi kepada hadirin?

Mengapa dan bagaimana kertas soalan kuis tentang Islam dijumpai dikoyak dan dibuang ke dalam tong sampah di dalam dewan?

Mengapa majlis tersebut diadakan di gereja yang jelas ada unsur-unsur penarikan untuk menarik orang Islam menjadi Kristian?

Mengapa penganjur beriya-iya cuba menipu penguatkuasa JAIS dan polis tentang program dan kehadiran orang Melayu/Islam?

Mengapa NADEANE@SOPHIA BT MOHD SALLEH enggan mengaku beragama Islam sedangkan kad pengenalannya tertera beliau Islam?

Nampaknya hanya NADEANE@SOPHIA yang mampu menjawab persoalan Tukang Screw ini. InsyaAllah Tukang Screw akan dedahkan beberapa maklumat menarik perhatian tentang isu ini dalam waktu terdekat termasuk petikan rakaman program tersebut yang diambil oleh salah seorang hadirin majlis tersebut yang merupakan sahabat Tukang Screw. Nauzubillah, awasilah keluarga dan saudara-mara kita dari terjebak dalam usaha memurtadkan orang-orang Islam. janganlah lokek membantu saudara mara kita yang susah. Wallahualam.
