If one feels that one is mature and strong in faith and therefore a government should not be so interventionist such as to ban certain types of entertainment outlets or concerts because the strong in faith shall not be affected, then such a person may just be acting out of religious pride or conceit.
There is no goodness or kindness in pride and conceit.
One who has undue pride in ones faith may look down upon the weak in faith or perhaps the faithless and notice their broken families and the variety of vices that such people may be trapped in and would one dare to think that one is safe in ones ivory tower of faith?
One day such a one may hire a maid/maids or engage the services of a contractor which involve labor intensive services, or for that matter may even engage the services of an auditing firm and have its staff come over for an extended period of time to look through company activity and papers, does such a one think that his/her pride is not one day going to land him/her in that same condition of the persons of low faith he/she looks down upon?
For the company of the very person/s that such a proud one may have to keep, that very person shall indeed be one of low faith and trapped in some vice or another. And that person shall keep his/her vices secret from the proud one for fear of being looked down upon. But will it just end there. No. There shall also be envy in that very persons heart of the proud ones moral wealth and the envious heart shall indeed scheme to rob.
And the various moral scandals that often appear in the media are the typical results of such pride. Being interventionist in attempting to create an environment conducive to the upholding of moral and religious values is neither fanaticism nor being myopic, but an extension of a hand of compassion to the weak in faith and also to save them from the incorrigible faithless.
The faithless are not sitting around idly. They are actively propagating their immoral lifestyle. They have plans,! agendas , strategies and access to influential people in the government, media etc..
So, be warned, if the faithful dont act the faithless shall win.
Being 'interventionist' to protect faithful is not fanaticism
Najib cancels family holiday 'to be with rakyat' or because William Bourdon is in town...
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who returned today from working visits to three countries, said he had cancelled a holiday with the family abroad to spend more time with the people in Malaysia. He said he was thankful to his wife Rosmah Mansor and their children for having agreed with him to come back earlier from overseas."I told my family I felt that I should return to Malaysia and that I was prepared to forgo the holiday for the sake of Malaysians back home," he said when addressing about 3,000 people who had gathered at the Bunga Raya Complex of the KL International Airport to greet him on his return.
Najib had been away on official visits to Turkmenistan, the United Kingdom and Italy. The prime minister was to spend a week in Italy with his family.
Meanwhile,French lawyer William Bourdon, who was in Penang last night to speak about the controversial Scorpene submarines deal allegedly involving millions of ringgit in kickbacks to Malaysian government officials, was detained at the KL International Airport this morning. It is understood that he will put on a plane bound for Paris at about 11.30 tonight.
Everything is okay. I am so sorry to leave my friends; we fly tonight for Paris. Keep in touch, take care and have courage, said Bourdon in an email message.
According to Suaram director Cynthia Gabriel, immigration officials boarded the aircraft and detained Bourdon soon after their plane touched down at KLIA in Sepang this morning.
! "He was immediately taken to the immigration holding centre at KLIA," Gabriel told Malaysiakini.
The immigration officers had initially disallowed Bourdon's wife Lia Foriester, also a lawyer, to accompany him to the holding centre. Following some negotiations, she was eventually allowed to do so.
According to Gabriel, the officers wanted to "question" Bourdon. Gabriel said Bourdon told her over the phone after four hours of detention that the deportation process was under way. Bourdon arrived yesterday but did not go through KLIA immigration as he was on transit to Penang.
The 55-year-old French lawyer was due to speak at a fund-raising dinner in Petaling Jaya tonight and at another dinner in Ipoh tomorrow.

Deporting Bourdon merely demonstrates that Najib fears what he is about to reveal. Kalau William Bourdon in rakyat Malaysia sure dah kena ISA....
cheers.

Lawyer William Bourdon detained at KLIA, to be deported
French lawyer William Bourdon, who was in Penang last night to speak about the controversial Scorpene submarines deal allegedly involving millions of ringgit in kickbacks to Malaysian government officials, was detained at the KL International Airport this morning.
He was immediately taken to the immigration holding centre at KLIA, Gabriel toldMalaysiakini.
The immigration officers had initially disallowed Bourdons wife Lia Foriester, also a lawyer, to accompany him to the holding centre.
Following some negotiations, she was eventually allowed to do so.
According to Gabriel, the officers wanted to question Bourdon.
Gabriel(centre in photo)said Bourdon told her over the phone after four hours of detention that the deportation process was under way.
Bourdon arrived yesterday but did not go through KLIA immigration as he was on transit to Penang.
The 55-year-old French lawyer was due to speak at a fund-raising dinner in Petaling Jaya tonight and at another dinner in Ipoh tomorrow.
At apacked dinnerin Penang last night to raise funds for the pending Scorpene trial in France, in which the NGO Suaram is involved, Bourdon said the case would also expose d! etails o f secret meetings of those involved.
He said those beneficiaries and kickbacks from theRM7.3 billionScorpene submarine deal would be exposed when the matter is raised at the French corruption trial against defence giant DCNS.
Four men boarded the plane
At a hastily called press conference at KLIA, Gabriel who had flown in from Penang with Bourdon and his wife recounted how four uniformed individuals boarded their plane and detained Bourdon.
We touched down at 11.40am from Penang, and immediately three immigration officers entered the plane and detained him. There was also another officer in a green uniform, who I believe to be with the auxiliary police.
They then took him to the immigration holding centre, but they stopped me from entering. They were shouting jangan ikut, jangan ikut while holding up their hands, she said.
Gabriel slammed the authorities for taking such arbitrary and irrational action in detaining Bourdon while he was still on the plane, calling it a hallmark of a government moving towards a full dictatorship.
Fadiah Nadwa Fitri of Lawyers for Liberty pointed out that it would be very difficult to challenge Bourdons detention, even if the authorities did not give any grounds for it, as the Immigration Act allowed them far-reaching powers to act.
Under the Act, they have the power to stop him, deny him entry and deport him with no obligation to explain why.
But where is the due process? If you infringe someones right to freedom of movement, then at least tell them why, Fadiah said.
Why is the government so afraid?
She explained that Bourdons detention was based on Section 9(a) of the Immigration Act, which gives the director-general powers to prohibit entry and cancel permits of individuals considered prejudicial to the nation, where he deems to be expedient to do so.
What is so prejudicial to Bourdon being here? That is the question (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) should answer, Fadiah said.
Gabriel echoed Fadiahs sentiments, pointing out that the governments action against Bourdon, who was scheduled to fly home on Sunday, would only raise more questions surrounding the controversial submarine deal.
Why is the government so afraid? This incident only shows that the government really does have something to hide, she said.
Meanwhile, Suaram project coordinator Sarah Devaraj said their fund-raising dinner in Petaling Jaya tonight will go on as scheduled, despite the absence of Bourdon.
She said they expected at least 700 people to attend the event at the PJ Civic Centre, aimed at raising funds to cover the legal costs of Suarams court action in France.
Third commission
Suaram last year filed the legal case in Paris, with the help of Bourdon, over claims that DCNS paid RM540 million in commission to Perimekar for the purchase of two submarines.
Such payments are illegal under French laws. Perimekar is a subsidiary of KS Ombak Laut Sdn Bhd, of which the major shareholder is Abdul Razaks wife, Mazlinda Makhzan(right).
Bourdon has uncovered another 30 million euros (RM150 million) paid to DCNS commercial network Thales and another 2.5 million euros (RM7.5 million) to an unknown recipient.
Suar am recently revealed that a third commission, an amount bigger than the earlier two, had been paid to highly placed government officials.
Bourdon and his team of lawyers at Sherpa a not-for-profit organisation he founded in 2001 that focuses on improving legal tools to promote corporate social responsibility have been providing pro bono services to Suaram thus far.
Active in initiating legal procedures in France against former Serbian and Rwandan leaders suspected of crimes against humanity and war crimes, Bourdon also served as legal council for Franco-Chilean families who were victims of the former dictator Augusto Pinochet.
From 1995 to 2000, he was general-secretary of the International Federation for Human Rights (IFHR).
GLOBAL BERSIH 2.0 Awakening of the Malaysian Diaspora
Report from Global BERSIH 2.0
Starting from spontaneous expressions of patriotism at a few international locations where Malaysians were residents in fairly significant numbers, the desire to show support for the Bersih 2.0 Walk for Electoral Reform in Kuala Lumpur sprouted into a worldwide event that spanned most of the major time zones. New Zealand started the day rolling followed by rallies happening in several Australian, Asian and European cities. The ripple then spread across the Atlantic Ocean, to cities in North America, ending the historical day at the West Coast cities of Los Angeles, Portland and San Francisco. Indeed the sun did not quite set on Bersih 2.0.
The sun decidedly shone down its warm yellow rays on Bersih 2.0 participants everywhere, especially in places with chilly winds. But quite the contrary, if not ironic, back in in Kuala Lumpur, as rally participants were doused with stinging tear-gas and chemical-laced water, the skies opened up, washing everything clean! This occasion proved to be a new paradigm for Malaysians, especially the youth. They were experiencing Unity in Diversity, a concept few imagined was possible. Optimists estimate that some 50,000 Malaysians had gathered together without regard to ethnic origin or religious leaning. This was a Malaysia dreams were made of.
Elsewhere in the world, the outpouring of patriotism was just as impressive. Malaysians were united as one, in foreign lands. In places where Malaysians had existing committees and who met up regularly, organising a rally was pretty straightforward. But in some cities, rookies who had never even attended a rally before stepped up and asked how they could organise one. The results were most gratifying, as the numbers below show
City (attendance): Wellington ! (10), Au ckland (35), Christchurch (15), Brisbane (100), Sydney (500), Canberra (40), Hobart (30), Melbourne (1000), Adelaide (150), Osaka (14), Seoul (35), Suzhou (20), Taipei (300), Shenzen (20), Hong Kong (80), Perth (120), Singapore Online(63), Singapore Picnic (200), Dubai (40), Cairo (100), Istanbul (2),Stockholm (10), Graz, Austria (2), Zurich (42), Geneva (12), Paris (30), London (450), Glasgow (30), Belfast (25), Dublin (60), Cork (14), Limerick (11), New York City (130), Ottawa (11), Washington DC (50), Chicago (35), Los Angeles (85), Portland, OR (14), San Francisco (120)
Total attendance for all 38 locations = 4003 participants. Cities are sequenced according to longitude.
Apart from these heart-warming numbers of participants in these locations, there were unconfirmed reports in the social network site, Facebook, of people in other locations such as Cambodia, Jerusalem, Frankfurt also standing up to be counted. But in the absence of verifiable sources, we have to leave those claims open. The organisers in Singapore, aware of the restrictions on public gatherings posed by the Singapore authorities, quite cleverly decided to do an online show of their love for Malaysia and their support for the Bersih 2.0 campaign. However, there were some folks who decided to gather informally for a picnic at a popular park. We have reported the numbers of both these gatherings. Sympathy rallies were also held in Manila, Bangkok and Jakarta but we have not included those attendance numbers.
The Steering Committee of GLOBAL BERSIH 2.0 would like to thank all participants for the tremendous support extended towards the call for Free and Fair Elections and Real Democracy in Malaysia. Through your actions, that some may deem indirect or small, you have provided irrefutable proof that Diaspora Malaysians still hold Malaysia dearly in your hearts and would return if you could. You have staked your claim to having a part to play in what happens at home.
Despite the excessive! use of force encountered by the Bersih 2.0 Walkers in Kuala Lumpur, all the locations elsewhere proved that peaceful demonstrations are a part and parcel of the democratic process and can be managed effectively with minimal impact on non-participants. This is testimony to the maturity of Malaysians in their ability to participate fully in a vibrant democracy. Authorities should take cognizance of this and allow the political evolution of Malaysia to proceed naturally.
The myriad of global locations displayed banners and posters, with participants wearing YELLOW t-shirts, scarves, ribbons In some locations loud hailers were used to address the crowd while in other more cosy locations, participants took turns to read and discuss the 8 demands. A Samad Saids almost-banned poem was read, memoranda and posters were signed, catchy phrases were chanted and the Negaraku was sung with fervour. Many locations also called for the immediate release of the 6 detained under Emergency Ordinance without legal recourse. In every location, the local authorities were most helpful, some even suggesting more impactful vantage points to gather at. Sadly, at almost every location, representatives of Malaysian authorities took photos and videos and tried to record the names of participants.
Carnival atmosphere aside, the most significant impact of Global Bersih 2.0 is the realisation that has dawned upon many Diaspora Malaysians that you are not alone in your love of and concern for your mother country. You met and interacted, many for the first time, with others like yourselves living relatively near to where you live. This has sparked the desire on the part of many to remain in contact with each other and continue to come together for activities that can help improve your nation.
The Steering Committee of GLOBAL BERSIH 2.0 proposes to extend the ongoing domestic activities of Bersih 2.0 by promoting the following activities internationally. The first three of these will be carried out ! by those interested participating locations while the next three will be coordinated by the Steering Committee.
Global Bersih 2.0 is a turning point in the relationship of Diaspora Malaysians with your mother country. Many of you showed that you were willing to cast aside your fears and contribute towards making our land the better country it can be. Those committed, let us bring our skills and resources to bear to help rebuild our nation and fulfil the promise of potential it showed when it was first born 54 years ago. Let us work together to make Malaysia the great model nation it was meant to be.

A lie has robbed their freedom

Not a shred of evidence has been unearthed so far to justify their detention. Not an iota of proof has been disclosed to date to convince sceptical Malaysians that the action of the police has been honourable.
A lie that robs innocent Malaysians of their human rights discredits the police beyond repair. A lie that denies access to lawyers for the detained six denigrates the rule of law and disgraces the Barisan Nasional government for not observing the principles of decency, truth and honesty.
With this kind of unethical behavior , with this kind of human rights violations, does Malaysia deserve to occupy a seat in the United Nations Human Rights Council? This is a question that has to be asked by all justice-respecting Malaysians. This question has to be raised by the international community that voted in Malaysia for a place in the Human Rights Council. Please search your conscience and demand an answer.
With each passing day, the BNs crime becomes unpardonable; with each passing day, it loses its credibility. No one believes that the government has done the right thing; no one believes that the government has done this in the interest of the nation. The common consensus among Malaysians is that the BN government has acted in a selfish m! anner to safeguard its self interest.
When it comes to the preservation of the BNs hold on power, it throws caution to the winds, it sacrifices ethics and resorts to brute strength to hold on to power. Recently we witnessed how it conducted itself with regard to the Bersih Walk for Democracy rally, deploying the police to act harshly and cruelly. Even the sanctity of the grounds of a hospital was not spared or respected. The welfare of the hospital patients was callously ignored when the police went after the protesters seeking refuge in the hospital grounds.
Back to Jeyakumar and his five companions. First they were charged with waging war against the King. This charge within seven days collapsed as sheer nonsense and evaporated into thin air but they were deprived of seven days of freedom in isolation.
Then, they were released but in a show of mockery to the rule of law, they were immediately arrested and detained under the Emergency (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) Ordinance 1969 and whisked off to Bukit Aman, where they are being kept in solitary confinement. The intense interrogation and the long hours of questioning have taken a toll on Jeyakumar. For a person with a heart ailment, it is dangerously causing him a lot of stress and torment. He has had to be hospitalised twice within the span of two weeks.
Third, in spite of the fact that he was first charged with treason and later with being a threat to the nation, he wasnt investigated for this. What they were interested in was to find out about the Bersih rally and related information. This irrevocably confirms the lie that Kumar and his companions were neither traitors to the nation nor a threat to the country.
There are no moral grounds whatsoever to justify their continued detention. The BNs saving grace would be to release them unconditionally and immediately. Our plea is, dont perpetuate the lie.

Umno a place to get rich, says US envoy
In todays Malaysia, one can get along by going along (and of course one can go farther as a Malay rather than a Chinese or Indian), but it is also true that one can be run over.
JAMES KEITH
US Ambassador to Malaysia
in a confidential cable to the State Department
Echoing a conventional wisdom widely held among politically-conscious Malaysians, the US Ambassador to Malaysia told the State Department in 2008 that
- Umno is a Malay supremacist party by ideology
- Malaysia is a one-party state
- Umno is seen as a means to get rich
He also said Umnos politics and bullying tactics were making many Malaysians decide to emigrate rather than wait to crushed by the partys policies and practices.
The comments came in a Wikileaked cable of 22 July 2008, when the US Ambassador, James Keith, reviewed Malaysias political situation in the light of explosive revelations made that month in statutory declarations implicating Najib Tun Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, the Mongolian translator in the Scorpene submarines purchase by the Malaysian government.
The cable, published at Malaysia Today under an arrangement with WikiLeaks and not yet available at the WikiLeaks site, said:
The ruling party is relying primarily on its own party structure and the embedded system of carrots and sticks to keep party membership in line. As in other one-party states, the party is seen opportunistically as a mechanism for personal advancement and enrichment.
There is an ideological component, in terms of Malay supremacy, but that is in practice a matter of institutionalized opportunism. In good times UMNO can maintain control by distributing power and money to get what it wants. In bad times, it uses the stick, and for now that means intimidation.
The ruling elite maintains control over the security apparatus through party stalwarts who run the security institutions, ! mainly t he police but also the military. We believe the military will remain loyal to legitimate leadership and is not a likely tool to overturn an elected, royally-approved and Malay-led government from either the ruling or opposition side. The police, on the other hand, follow orders from the ruling party.
The commando-style arrest of Anwar last week, the roadblocks and security checks throughout the city of Kuala Lumpur, the recent arrest of blogger Raja Petra, intimidation of Sabah politicians, and the authorities strident rhetoric are all part of a broad message to the Malaysian people that they had better not stand in UMNOs path. In todays Malaysia, one can get along by going along (and of course one can go farther as a Malay rather than a Chinese or Indian), but it is also true that one can be run over.
We only have anecdotal evidence for this, but the sad spiral into past patterns may have become the predicate for some middle and upper class Malaysians who have the option of emigrating. Rather than wait to be run over, it is far preferable to get out of the game.

Selepas beberapa rundingan, beliau dibenarkan menemani suaminya.
Menurut Gabriel, pegawai imigresen "menyoal Bourdon".

Prominent French lawyer William Bourdon was detained by immigration officers at KLIA.
Prominent French human rights lawyer William Bourdon has been detained by immigration officers at KLIA.
The lawyer had arrived here from Penang, where he spoke at an event organised by rights group Suaram regarding the controversial Scorpene submarine deal.
He is scheduled to give another speech tonight in Petaling Jaya on the submarine scandal.
In June 2002, the Malaysian government signed an agreement with French DCNS and Spainish Navantia for the procurement of two Scorpene class submarines.
The procurement contract was through direct negotiation with the manufacturing companies, said to be with the service of Perimekar Sdn Bhd, linked to academic Abdul Razak Baginda.
The Scorpene issue had been mired in controversy with allegations of kickbacks and linked to the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Razak, a close aide of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, was charged with abetting the murder but was later acquitted.
The controversy had even forced Najib to swear on the Quran to clear his name.
The French authorities are currently probing the deal.
In December 2009, Suaram filed a complaint with the French courts asking for access to information regarding government contracts signed with Perimekar and other information classified as official secrets in Malaysia.
In April 2010, the French courts accepted the request to investigate the claim of corruption for a payment amounting to 114 million euros from DCNS to Perimekar.
Bourdon was the keynote speaker at last nights Ops Scorpene fundraiser and awareness campaign and was slated to speak at again tonight.
Currently, Suaram representatives are on their way to KLIA to find out mo! re.

If there is a case that exemplifies the third world basket case mentality of Malaysia’s criminal justice system – this should be it.
Perhaps universities around the world can use this as a case study on how state institutions like the police, judiciary, AG’s Chambers can have all the infrastructures, resources, training, personnel, public relations, catchy mottos and Facebook pages they require but without accountability, transparency and checks and balances – they count for nothing.
How else can you contextualise the fabricated “waging war” charges against the 30 PSM members based on some communist-inspired T-shirts and PSM literature? How else can you explain the excessive remand order from Sessions Court judge Amernudin Ahmad and affirmed by High Court judge Zamani Abdul Rahim?
One wonders whether judges who attended the recent Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Conference 2011 in Kuala Lumpur had a good laugh while listening to the PM’s speech stating that Malaysia is committed to safeguarding and ensuring the continued independence of the judiciary.
We certainly did!
On 2 July, after being in detention for a week, 6 PSM leaders including Member of Parliament Dr. M. Jeyakumar were re-arrested and detained without trial under the Emergency Ordinance – this time for purportedly being the movers and shakers of Bersih 2.0.
In the 37 affidavits filed in reply to the habeas corpus application fixed for hearing on 22 July at the KL High Court, no mention at all was made about waging war, Communism, Chin Peng, Rashid Maidin and other made up stories as alleged earlier.
How dumb are these police and AG’s Chambers officers? The movers and shakers of Bersih 2.0 are…get ready for this, the Bersih 2.0 Steering Committee! Their names can be found at Bersih’s website – www.bersih.org(click on About BERSIH 2.0) and at the end of their press releases.
And now apparently the AG’s Chambers are trying to seek for an adjournment for tomorrow’s hearing.

Mami Marina is now the biggest suspect - She Is A Mamak Trojan Horse
Marina Mahathir and Bersih 2.0
Is Marina Mahathir a genuine righteous person who will take on UMNO and her father in the interest of the Rakyat or is she merely a Mahathir strategy to crush Bersih from within?
By Ken
It appears that Datuk Marina Mahathir is preparing herself to join Ambiga and other Bersih leaders, as can be gleaned from her articles in the Star, Malaysiakini (see “Gov't feels threatened, says Marina” 18 Jul 2011), etc. about her “heroic” participation in Bersih 2.0.
However, while it appears that she supports Bersih 2.0, her actions and non-actions cast significant doubts on this matter.
Yes, she joined many others in criticizing the police and the UMNO government of their crackdown and threats before Bersih 2.0. If she was so committed to Bersih 2.0, why didn’t she, a prominent supposedly human rights activist, play an active role in Bersih 2.0? After all, Ambiga had invited everyone to join Bersih 2.0, given its noble cause.
It was clear to all that Bersih 2.0 would happen and that the UMNO government and police would suppress it violently with tear gas, water cannon, assault and arrests at the least. Ambiga and many thousands of others braved these threats against their personal safety in the interest of the nation and made Bersih 2.0 happen.
There were a few prominent personalities who saw what was happening and wanted to ensure that they could continue to lay claim to championing democracy and human rights by positioning themselves in the march where they would be safe. It appears that this is the case with Marina Mahathir.
If Marina had not written those articles, would we have known that she, a prominent personality, was in Bersih 2.0? If she had really believed in the ideals of Bersih 2.0, she should have been in the front on that date to face the tear gas, water cannon and police violence. If she had been there, would the police have been brave enough to direct all that violence towards the crowd led by her, knowing that they would meet the wrath of her father, the ever-powerful Tun Dr.Mahathir, who is very close to her?
Writing about the event AFTER it has happened is for journalists and bloggers. People claiming to be champions and leaders must go beyond writing and act. Marina Mahathir did not act when the opportunity presented itself.
While Marina has become particularly vocal lately on Bersih 2.0, Tun Dr. Mahathir, who is always ready to comment on any happening in the country or outside, has been relatively quiet, except for some light comments before the event and illogical comments after the event about Bersih 2.0 being a Malay vs non-Malay matter.
Numerous people are praising Marina Mahathir for being very vocal, even if it is after Bersih 2.0, with some claiming that she is a righteous person, a great leader and a potential PM. It looks like that Datuk Marina Mahathir is ready to enter active politics in the light of growing support from Bersih supporters as well as UMNO/BN members who would surely not want to displease Tun Dr. Mahathir, knowing the Tun’s powers and influence.
What is also strange is that some individuals such as Mathias Chang who are closely associated with Tun Dr Mahathir (the advisor and brains behind Perkasa) have also become very critical of the UMNO government’s handling of Bersih 2.0 (see Malaysia Today’s “Barisan Nasional’s sledge-hammer reaction to the Bersih Rally on 9th July 2011”), thereby lending further credence to Marina’s active championing of Bersih.
And to ensure that Marina’s “efforts” with regards to Bersih 2.0 are not overlooked or ignored, harsh critics have emerged to present illogical arguments which put Marina in good light. An example is Wong Sai Kim’s letter, “Open letter to Marina Mahathir's take on Bersih 2.0” in Malaysiakini (21 Jul 2011). Such an eloquently comprehensive letter should have been directed at Ambiga or Bersish 2.0, but Wong has chosen to direct it at Marina Mahathir. Why?
If Bersih is successful, UMNO’s fall is inevitable. If UMNO goes down, it will not just be Najib who will fall but also many, many others including Tun Dr Mahathir and his family and friends.
With so much at stake, Bersih must be crushed and all possible strategies must be deployed. Is Marina Mahathir a genuine righteous person who will take on UMNO and her father in the interest of the Rakyat or is she merely a Mahathir strategy to crush Bersih from within? Her actions, and not mere words, will provide the answer.

Positive Fallout from Vatican Trip Continues
From Bernama:
The establishment of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and the Vatican will enhance relations between the Muslim majority and Christian minority in this country, said Yayasan 1Malaysia chairman Dr Chandra Muzaffar.
He said this relationship should also spur both Muslims and Christians in Malaysia to combat extremist attitudes within the two communities and overcome religious prejudices and biases.
“Other hurdles pertaining to the misinterpretation and misapplication of certain laws should also be addressed with sincerity and honesty,” he said in a statement issued here Wednesday.
He said Muslims and Christians shared many common values ranging from the belief in God and respect for the individual person to a strong commitment to the well-being of the weak and disadvantaged and deep attachment to just and honest governance.
“These shared values should be given greater emphasis within Muslim and Christian religious circles, in the education system and in the media in Malaysia,” he said.
Dr Chandra said that at the global level, Malaysia and the Vatican should not only fight violence and terrorism perpetrated in the name of religion but also cooperate with one another in trying to overcome the underlying causes of various global injustices which were mainly responsible for much of the current global turmoil.
“Religious elites should not distort and pervert religious teachings to justify and legitimise any from of global injustice. Dominance and control over global politics and the global economy have sometimes been rationalised through religion.
“It is our prayer that with the establishment of diplomatic relations, Malaysia and the Vatican will renew their quest for a just and peaceful world,” he said.
Malaysia and the Vatican agreed to establish formal diplomatic relations to promote bonds of mutual friendship and strengthen cooperation following the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Pope Benedict XVI at the papal summer residence in scenic Castel Gandolfo, outside Rome, on Monday.
‘Is Taib stealing electricity?’
KUCHING: Is Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud such a tight wad that he has to resort to stealing electricity to keep his bills down?
The Sarawak Report website claimed that Taib had installed a secret subterranean electricity cable which by-passes the meter outside his house in order to keep down his electricity bills.
The Sarawak DAP now wants the Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (Sesco) to carry out a thorough investigation.
“In the wake of the report which appeared in Sarawak Report, Sesco must carry out an investigation in order to clear the name of the chief minister.
“And if the report is not correct, then it should clear chief minister’s name. But if the report is correct, then it should prosecute Taib,” DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen said.
“Sesco must be transparent on this as it is of public interest,” said Chong who is the state assemblyman for Kota Sentosa.
He was asked to comment on a report on the Sarawak Report website which alleges that Taib had stolen electricity to keep down his electricity bills.
In its article published in March this year, Sarawak Report said that at a time when people were struggling to cope with the rising electricity costs, it has established that the chief minister “steals” electricity to keep down his own bills.
“This astonishing information came to us from senior insiders, who are in a good position to know what is happening in Taib’s household.
“We have subsequently obtained corroborative evidence from the chief technician in charge of maintenance at his grand residence at Demak Jaya.
“What we have learnt is that the chief minister has deliberately installed a secret, subterranean electricity cable, which by-passes the meter outside his house.
“The cable links the mains directly to the line entering the house. This means that while some of the supply still travels though the meter, at least half of it does not, thereby slashing Taib’s electricity bill,” claimed Sarawak Report.
Unreasonable power supplier
Meanwhile, Chong said that a Sesco consumer surnamed Chong (no relation to him) has received a summons to appear in the magistrate’s court on Aug 1 for non-payment of Sesco bills amounting to RM3,396.30.
According to Chong, the amount was incurred when Sesco changed the consumer’s electricity meter without his knowledge as it was a bit slow in 2009.
Sesco billed him RM3,396.30 for 36 months for underpayment and this amount included administrative and meter fees of RM400 and RM150 respectively.
After receiving the bill, the consumer, who is a plumber, approached a Sesco officer who asked him to wait. This month he received the summons to appear in court on Aug 1.
“This is the first case that Sesco has brought to court a consumer over the change of electricity meter. DAP feels that the manner Sesco charges its customers is oppressive and our lawyers will fight the matter in court, if need be right to the court of appeal,” Chong said.
Mat Sabu : Apologise or I will sue
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu has demanded an apology from the police for claiming that he lied about being hit by a police vehicle during the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally.
“If they continue with this lie, I will not hesitate to take legal action. I have spoken to my lawyer and he has advised me to do so,” he said.
Mohamad said he wanted the police to retract and apologise their false accusation against him.
“Otherwise, I will see those who lie and perhaps any other individuals who repeat that lie, in court,” he said.
Mohamad said that a police report he lodged earlier this week at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters was the true account of what happened.
On Thursday, Public Order and Internal Security Department director Salleh Rashid screened a CCTV recording which claimed to disprove the PAS leader’s earlier accusation that police had rammed a vehicle into a motorcycle he was on.
The video allegedly showed Mohamad falling off his motorcycle after hitting a divider.
The PAS leader, now wheelchair bound, had previously alleged that a police vehicle had deliberately knocked into his motorcycle, causing him to hurt his knee.
The incident caused a torn ligament on his right knee, resulting in an operation where doctors needed to insert a screw.

Blood on Indian roads
Incredible as it may sound, 14 people die every hour on Indian roads.
Which means 130,000 men, women and children are killed every year, a figure that gives the country the dubious distinction of being the worlds leading road killer.
And 1.6 million people are grievously wounded or maimed for life every year, and these casualties are largely ignored or brushed aside by the Indian government.
So, a huge number of Indians are tragically affected year after year.
What is shocking is that little has been or is being done to infuse a modicum of safety into road users, both drivers and pedestrians.
What is the biggest cause of Indian roads turning bloody killers? There is no political will or bureaucratic determination to stop life ebbing out on the roads.
Worse, road safety is treated with scant regard. Recently, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon inaugurated the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. Across the globe, countries are planning measure to make their roads safer.
Indias response has been hardly enthusiastic, implying downright callousness and, mind you, this from a nation that holds such a terrible record in road safety.
To begin with, Indias transport planning has been lopsided. Much like the Coke and pizza culture that Indians have so easily aped from Americans, both the federal and the state governments in India have paid very little attention to public transport, quite similar to what once happened in the US.
During the first decades of the 1900s, the American public transport system suffered because Ford systematically ruined it by pushing its cars.
In India, politicians and businessmen have been reportedly feathering their nests with the huge kickbacks car manufacture! rs have been paying. Obviously, the tendency has been to neglect mass transportation.
Though Kolkata got the countrys first underground metro rail in 1984, only one line is running from the north to the south till this day.
Delhis metro, which began services in 2002, has an impressive network, but it probably came quite late in the day. People have got so used to their own private vehicles, both cars and two wheelers, that the metro is not the conveyance of first choice.
Some other cities, such as Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, have only now begun to plan rapid intra-city railways.
Rash and fast driving
Obviously, metro transit projects should have been considered and executed at least a decade ago.
On the other hand, car manufacturers have proliferated in India. There are at least 30 today. In fact, there are three close to Chennai, making it the Detroit of the East!
Last year, 2.81 million cars were made, and India became the sixth largest motor vehicle/car manufacturer in the world choking the roads in the cities and even in small towns.
With a road space that is far less than 20 per cent of a total city area (with the ideal being 33 per cent) in most parts of the country, traffic snarls not only lead to road rage, but one upmanship and daredevilry.
A recent newspaper report said that India suffered from both rash and fast driving. A man hit by a car travelling at 30 km an hour had far greater chances of surviving than one knocked down by a vehicle moving at, say, 50 km an hour.
Let alone missing political and administrative will, traffic violations attract such paltry fines and short jail terms that road rules are flouted with panache. Often, traffic offenders are! not boo ked at all.
In Delhi, a survey by the Faridabad Institute of Road Traffic Education found that the police registered a mere 20,000 cases a day, while there were 146 million violations by motor vehicles.
An important cause of this is the traffic cop, who is so petrified of big cars and the possible big-time connections their owners may enjoy that he tends to look the other way.
So, when road users can break rules without fear, the self becomes more important than the other. Industrialists, film stars and politicians among others are known to drink and drive.
If policing of traffic leaves much to be desired, driving licences are issued at will, and for a small bribe. It is not rare to find men and women walking out of Regional Transport Offices with a full-fledged driving licence and zero knowledge of road rules.
All these add up to make Indian roads an ideal gateway to Hell.
But, it is about time attempts are made to make roads safe. Use of private vehicles must be discouraged.
A few years ago, London imposed a congestion tax on private cars and managed to reduce the number of vehicles entering the city centre.
New Yorks Manhattan has such prohibitive parking fees that car owners think twice before driving there. In Singapore it can be more expensive to get a car licence than to buy a new vehicle!
India can try out all these, but people need to move. And without a comfortable and well-run public transport network, they cannot.
Finally, fewer cars on roads may not necessarily mean fewer deaths. Unless punishment for violations is strict, and fines are hefty, Indian roads will stay bloody.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH
We, the undersigned doctors, wish not to enter into the polemics of the Bersih 2.0 march on 9th July 2011 but would like to clarify the inconvenient truth.
We are outraged at the incidents, and the subsequent responses from the authorities, to the events where tear gas and chemical laced water were shot into the compounds of Tung Shin and Chinese Maternity Hospitals, two adjacent buildings along Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, with scant regard for the safety of patients, staff and the general public who were at the buildings that afternoon.
A few of the undersigned were actually visiting or working in the hospitals concerned at the time of the events and will gladly provide sworn affidavits, if required, as to veracity of the incidents
The Malaysian public expect holders of high public office to honour their positions accorded by the citizens, by discharging their duties with moral integrity, dignity and transparency.
Their failure to do so raises the public's do! ubts in their competence and credibilty as much as it demeans those high offices.

Driven To Suicide?
Teoh Beng Hock was not a criminal. He had nothing to hide. His boss Ean
Yong was cleared of any wrong-doing.
Moreover, he was due to be married the next day to the woman who was
carrying his child.
NOTHING, and absolutely NOTHING in my opinion, would have driven him to
suicide.
Ibu, isteri Teoh tolak keputusan s'jaya diraja

9 Julai: Video 'layanan baik' polis ditayangkan

Nak Heran apa Pasal Keputusannya?
The Prime Minister said the RCI would be set up with special terms and the government would appoint a select list of members for the panel, comprising prominent and respectable people.
Najib told reporters here on Friday that the appointment of the panel was expected to be made after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Apa nak heran???
Yes, you were perfect, PDRM....
At least, they are consistent, the Polis Di-Raja Malaysia, that is. They acted with supreme arrogance in the days leading up to the Bersih 2.0 rally, cooking up theories of the resurgence of communism and arresting taxpayers for wearing yellow apparel. And now they are acting with even more arrogance by absolving themselves of blame for brutality on July 9. A law unto themselves, it seems.
In the run up to the rally, top cop Tan Sri Ismail Omar and his no 2 Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar spoke and behaved with aggression, most of the times even forgetting that they are accountable to the rakyat, not to Umno or Barisan Nasional.
The PDRM upped the ante by taking out a court order which barred 91 individuals from the city centre. Mind you, the individuals in question are men and women who have a higher moral standing than most police officers.
They then locked down the Kuala Lumpur city centre and brought out so many police personnel that it made nonsense of the talk that the crime situation had broken down because of lack of police personnel.
They treated the Bersih people as criminal elements and used tear gas, batons and chemically-laced water liberally. They arrested nearly 1,700 Malaysians!
Now lets fast forward to the post-Bersih rally. The police were shown up in a bunch of videos which have been uploaded on YouTube. The PDRM were slammed inside and outside the country.
So now it is time for the whitewash and rewriting history. Strange but this is what police forces in communist regimes do: whitewashing and giving their own narrative of history in the face of overwhelming evidence.
In true fashion of the Soviet regime, the PDRM investigated themselves. Six committees made up of cops said that the police on July 9 acted with restraint and were provoked! Sounds like the usual justification the cops give after gunning down criminals. They fired at us first and then we returned fire and all of them were gunned down. The astounding thing about the so-called probe is that none of the main players from Bersih 2.0, the Bar Council or Opposition politicians were called. The cops probably had a morning session with some kuih muih and coffee and decided to sketch what really happened.
Like the government of the day, the PDRM believes that Malaysians are dumb. Like the government, they believe that we will swallow all the rubbish because they are in a position of authority.
Yes, PDRM you were blameless for July 9. You were blameless for locking up six people using a security law You were blameless for treating middle Malaysia as rogues. You were blameless for firing a tear gas canister and smashing the cheek bone of Anwar Ibrahims bodyguard.
