Semoga roh beliau ditempatkan bersama-sama para Anbiya dan Solihin.

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Julai: Ahli parlimen Titiwangsa, Dr Lo' Lo' Mohd Ghazali (gambar) menghembuskan nafas terakhir di Hospital Selayang kira-kira jam 10.15 malam ini.

Jenazah beliau kini sedang diusahakan untuk dibawa ke Masjid Al-Akram, Dato Keramat.

Perkara itu disahkan oleh Ketua Dewan Muslimat PAS Pusat, Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof ketika dihubungi Harakahdaily.

Maklumat berkenaan kematian itu juga turut dimuatkan pada laman Facebook dan Twitter Allahyarhamah atas nama keluarga.

Beliau sebelum ini menerima rawatan akibat kanser.

Dalam respons awal, Mursyidul Am PAS, Tuan Guru Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat menyifatkan Allahyarhamuha seorang yang istiqamah berjuang untuk Islam sehingga akhir hayat.

"Saya dimaklumkan oleh keluarga terdekat almarhumah Dr Lo' Lo', MP PAS Titiwangsa tentang pemergian beliau sebentar tadi.

"Semoga Allah merahmati rohnya dan ditempatkan bersama orang-orang yang soleh. Beliau seorang yang istiqomah berjuang untuk Islam hingga ke saat akhir hayatnya," tulisnya di Facebook.

Ketua Dewan Pemuda PAS, Nasrudin Hassan pula menyifatkan Allahyarhamah seorang tokoh pejuang Islam yang tabah.

"PAS dan rakyat sebentar tadi kehilangan tokoh pejuang Islam yg tabah apabila sbentar td Dr Lo' Lo' telah kembali ke rahmatillah.. Al Faatiihah." tulisnya di Twitter.

Menurut anak allahyarhamuha, Muhd Fawwaz, jenazah akan diuruskan di Masjid al-Akram, Datuk Keramat pagi esok.

"Insya allah, akan dikebumikan pada waktu pagi di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Datuk Keramat," tulisnya melalui sistem mesej si! ngkat (S MS) kepada Harakahdaily.

Polis: Boleh pakai baju kuning tanpa logo BERSIH

Timbalan Ketua Polis Negara Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar berkata tidak salah memakai baju kuning tetapi diingatkan supaya tidak memakai baju kuning yang mengguna lambang BERSIH.

Timbalan Ketua Polis Negara Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar berkata tidak salah memakai baju kuning tetapi diingatkan supaya tidak memakai baju kuning yang mengguna lambang BERSIH.

Katanya, buat masa ini Bersih telah disahkan sebagai sebuah pertubuhan haram dan Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) telah membuat pengumuman itu baru-baru ini.

"Apabila pengumuman itu telah dibuat, tanggungjawab polis adalah untuk menguatkuasakan peraturan yang berkaitan dengan sesuatu pertubuhan haram. Jadi, polis cuma menguatkuasakan undang-undang yang ada berkaitan dengan pengistiharan bahawa Bersih itu adalah satu pertubuhan yang haram.

"Itu sebabnya kita tangkap mereka yang memakai baju kuning yang menggunakan lambang BERSIH. Tak salah pakai baju kuning...tak salah, pakailah baju kuning, stoking kuning atau topi kuning...cuma yang tidak boleh adalah apa juga logo yang menyokong pertubuhan haram Bersih," katanya kepada pemberita selepas melancarkan program Skim Kepolisian Masyarakat dan 'Crime Awareness Team' (CAT) di Dataran Nilai malam tadi.

Turut hadir Ketua Polis Negeri Sembilan Datuk Osman Salleh dan timbalannya Datuk Abd Manan Mohd Hassan.

Khalid berkata jika ada pihak yang tidak puas hati dengan larangan itu, mereka boleh membawa perkara itu ke mahkamah untuk diputuskan.

"Jadi, bila mahkamah telah putuskan kita (polis) akan ikut. Kita akan melaksanakan apa juga perintah mahkamah itu mengikut undang-undang," katanya.

Mengenai penubuhan CAT, beliau berkata ia adalah program di bawah pencegahan jenayah bagi mengembeleng tenaga golongan muda ke arah membantu polis dalam agenda menurunkan kadar jenayah dan menghapuskan kebimbangan masyarakat terhadap jenayah.

Katanya kerjasama dan penglibatan golongan muda dalam program masyarakat seperti CAT di bawah kawal selia Jabatan Belia dan Sukan sebagai! aktivit i Rakan Muda, membolehkan pelbagai aktiviti pencegahan jenayah dapat dianjurkan dari semasa ke semasa.

Sehubungan itu, beliau meminta masyarakat supaya tampil membantu polis dalam pencegahan jenayah.

This morning, in distant Tasmania, an intrepid group of young protestersdefied Taibs family company Ta Ann.

They boarded a boat laden with wood that Ta Ann had taken from theirown primary jungle,climbed right to the top of a crane tower and chained themselves to it.

And they wanted to make their message clear. They were not only fighting to protect their ownrare junglefrom the short-sighted and greedy plunder of the already fabulously wealthy Taib Mahmud, they were standing in solidarity with the people of Sarawak.

Taibs global reach is making him internationally notorious

The campaign in Tasmania against Ta Ann is a sign of the developing international international awareness of Taib Mahmud. The people of Sarawak were the first to suffer from his greedy pact with the timber tycoons to strip the forests bare.However with most of Sarawaks own forests now logged out, he and his cronieshavespread theirtentacles abroad, engaging in plunder across the worlds few remaining areas of virgin jungle. Tasmania is developing a strong movement to prevent that happening.

Ta Ann is run by Taibs cousin and well-known proxy, Hamid Sepawi, who also ownsover a third of theshares in what is billed as apublic company. Onlookers were astonished when the multi-million dollar concern managed to get a grant from the Australian government to invest ina wood veneering f! actory i n Tasmania, which it was hoped would breath life into a struggling industry.

Questions are still being asked over why the Australian government would PAY Taibs company to strip their forest? The Green Party says no satisfactory answer has been provided so far.

However, the promise Ta Ann made when it opened the project was that the factory would rely on plantation forests and not extract wood from Tasmanias remaining high conservation value forests its primary jungle. However, environmentalists say that the factorymanagers are now saying that the quality of the plantation wood is not sufficient for their factory and they are demanding hardwood from the jungle.

The Tasmanian Government and Ta Ann are locking in the logging of native forests to meet a wood supply contract till 2027. High Conservation value forests are being lost to feed Ta Anns mill, when they should be in a moratorium now.

Worse, the environmentalists say Ta Ann are now putting the Tasmanian authorities under pressure to provide them with access to primaryjungle hardwood until 2042!

PETALING JAYA, July 16 — In what would be an apt example of the government’s 1 Malaysia campaign, a mainly Chinese crowd dressed in yellow dined at an Indian restaurant here tonight in a show of defiance at the Najib administration’s clampdown against electoral reforms movement Bersih 2.0.

Some 50 Bersih supporters met at the PJ State Lotus Restaurant to share their experiences from the July 9 rally, discuss electoral fraud, and register as voters.

“Last Saturday was the beginning of a great Malaysia to come; it’s not an end,” said Bersih 2.0 steering committee member Wong Chin Huat in a speech at the dinner.

Wong said the July 9 rally was the beginning of a great Malaysia.

“We’re not an independent nation as long as we’re colonised by fear,” added the journalism lecturer, but also pointing out that a few people were wearing Bersih T-shirts.

The police have continued arresting those wearing Bersih’s signature yellow T-shirts after the rally, and have yet to release the six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members detained under the Emergency Ordinance 1969 for their alleged involvement with the movement.

A deputy minister also stated yesterday that it could via the central bank freeze the assets of those involved with Bersih 2.0.

“We’re looking at doing a yellow gotong-royong constituency by constituency every Saturday. Let’s bersih (clean)!” said activist Steven Ng to claps from the crowd.

Jasmine Ng, co-ordinator of the voter registration movement Voice Your Choice, called on Bersih supporters to spread awareness about the group’s demands for free and fair elections.

“Have your yellow parties (and) dinners. Talk about Bersih... your reach must (surpass that of) mainstream media,” she said.

Local mainstream press have defended the Najib administration’s crackdown on the Bersih rally, while foreign media have condemned it, with UK’s The Guardian going as far as comparing the Barisan Nasional government to ousted Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak’s regime.

Film-maker and writer Linnaeus Chung told The Malaysian Insider that the Bersih rally has motivated him to urge as many people as he can to vote.

Fatima says Bersih is about rights and not political parties.

“The election is the core of everything. It’s how we decide who’s in government and it’s also how we decide what are the policies that are in place,” said Chung at the dinner, where he had brought his friend’s yellow Burmese pet python and called it “Bersih”.

He added that he cried even before the police’s tear gas hit him at the rally, saying: “I’ve never experienced true unity until that day... there was only Bangsa Malaysia that day.”

Scriptwriter Fatima Abdul Kareem said she did not attend the Bersih rally due to personal problems, but stressed: “We don’t need to go to the rally to support the concept of Bersih.”

“The concept of Bersih started with demanding for fair elections; it has now expanded to people’s rights,” added the 35-year-old woman dressed in a yellow blouse.

The Influence of US Funds for NGOs on Malaysian Politics.

Apparently UMNO controlled TV stations are suggesting that US funding for Bersih 2.0 is proof that Bersih is a threat to national security because it is in league with foreign interests. Thus they are now threatening to abuse their power to freeze the assets of those involved in activities against national security.

This is a Catch 22 situation for Bersih 2.0. Bersih 2.0 is saying that one of the reasons elections in Malaysia are not free and fair is that UMNO controlled civil service, police, judiciary, and EC, etc., calls all the shots. UMNO is now suggesting that those involved in activities deemed a threat to national security can have their assets frozen and that those institutions which it controls can decide whether Bersih 2.0 is engaged in activities deemed a threat to national security or not.

This means that electoral reforms are or can be put in abeyance by:

• Declaring Bersih 2.0 as a illegal organization
• Freezing the assets of Bersih 2.0 and others for engaging in activities deemed to be a threat to national security.

First it is up to those who are controlled by UMNO (according to Bersih 2.0) to decide that Bersih is an illegal organization and it is also up to those controlled by UMNO to decide that Bersih 2.0 is deemed to be engaged in activities detrimental to national security. Bersih is therefore tied, gagged and thrown into a frozen pond to freeze to death or drown does not matter which.

In fact just about anybody deemed to be engaged in activities by those institutions controlled by UMNO can be processed in a similar manner. This power is of such great consequence and so unlimited that it can also be applied to foreign investors if they are deemed to be engaged in activities detrimental to national security by those institutions controlled by UMNO. There is absolute! ly no ch ecks and balances at all (sort of). Resorting to the Malaysian judicial system is expensive, time consuming and subject to control and interference by UMNO.

The only difference between a foreign investor and a citizen of Malaysia is that the foreign investor is protected by his government and his wealth while the Malaysian citizen is protected by the UMNO government and the subsidies given by UMNO.

I guess this is how UMNO sees the situation, but how does the US see the situation? I am no expert on this matter. I guess those experts in the US can tell better. However since they choose not to reveal their thoughts in an open and transparent way, we can only make guesses. 2 significant things come to mind.

• The US congress and other organizations are funding Malaysian NGOs
• The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is of the opinion that Malaysia is a role modelfor moderate Islamic democracy.

Obviously one supports the other to make sure that US interests are served. The US Congress wants to make sure that good democratic principles are practiced according to how the US sees good democratic principles should be practiced while Hillary Clinton reminds the UMNO government to practice good moderate Islamic democracy.

Whether the recent crackdown on peaceful protestors is seen by both the US Congress and Hillary Clinton as a good practice of Islamic democracy is anybodys guess. Sometimes US interests can be observed to compromise a little on what good democratic practices should be especially if it is practiced by what they deem to be a good moderate Islamic country. Still, what they say is that they are a bit concerned but will continue to observe and monitor. At the same time, US funding for NGOs in Malaysia seem to be a bit embarrassed by the peaceful rally and kept a low profile. The US does not seem to have come out strongly to condemn the UMNO governments handling of peaceful demonstrators.

So if you ask me what the influence on Malaysian pol! itics of US funding of Malaysian NGOs is, I would have to say zilch, nada, zero if anything actually anti-democratic because now they are compromising Bersih 2.0 as a tool of foreign imperialism and a threat to Malaysian national security as defined by UMNO controlled institutions.

As for foreign investors, especially those from the US, I guess as long as they are protected by US power and the UMNO government is seen as a coolie sucking up to US power and wealth, their interests are not shaken in the least. Malaysian citizens, as is true and correct, should be protected by their own government, by their own policemen, their own judiciary and their own central bank.

Pengerusi SPR masih ingat SPR tu bersih....

Pengerusi Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof terus menyerang kepimpinan Bersih 2.0 dengan mendakwa mereka didalangi parti politik dan tidak benar-benar ikhlas.

Saya sebenarnya tidak pasti adakah penganjur perhimpunan haram Bersih benar-benar ikhlas atau mempunyai maksud lain di sebalik perhimpunan itu, kata Aziz dalam tulisannya disiarkan Mingguan Malaysia, akhbar Kumpulan Utusan hari ini.

Aziz (gambar) juga mendakwa beliau berpandangan sedemikian kerana dalam perjumpaan pertamanya dengan Bersih 2.0 akhir tahun lalu, pihaknya memaklumkan bahawa ia adalah gabungan badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) dan tidak melibatkan parti politik.

Bersih 2.0 dianggotai oleh sebanyak 62 NGO dan mengemukakan tuntutan lapan perkara dalam membawa pembaharuan sistem pilihan raya.

Penganjur Bersih mendakwa mereka berkecuali. Tetapi daripada apa yang dilihat sama ada gambar-gambar dan kenyataan parti-parti politik pembangkang, penganjur Bersih sudah memihak dengan jelasnya kepada pembangkang, kata beliau.

Pengerusi Bersih 2.0 Datuk S Ambiga berulang kali menekankan bahawa pihaknya telah mengundang kesemua parti politik - Barisan Nasional dan Pakatan Rakyat menyertai usaha mereka menuntut pembaharuan pilihan raya, tetapi ia hanya disambut oleh komponen Pakatan Rakyat.

Sebaliknya, BN dan pihak-pihak yang pro-BN mendakwa Bersih 2.0 bersekongkol dengan komponen Pakatan Rakyat.

Kita semua nampak mereka turun padang bersama-sama pemimpin-pemimpin parti politik seperti Anwar Ibrahim, Haji Hadi Awang dan banyak lagi.

Wakil-wakil NGO yang datang berjumpa dan berunding dengan saya dulu tidak kelihatan kecuali Marina Mahathir dan dua tiga orang lagi, kata ! Aziz sam bil menambah, jadi kenyataan Ambiga kepada saya bahawa Bersih tidak langsung memihak kepada parti politik adalah tidak benar sama sekali.

Tambahan pula tulis Aziz, baru-baru ini Presiden PAS Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang mengugut SPR supaya mengambil tindakan atas lapan tuntutan itu, kalau tidak mereka akan mengadakan tunjuk perasaan lagi.

Kenapa pula sebelum ini Bersih dan tiba-tiba sekarang parti politik PAS menyuarakan perkara itu?

Jadi, sekarang sudah jelas Bersih didalangi atau diperalatkan. Mereka bersekongkol dengan parti politik, kata Aziz lagi.

Aziz menambah, Bersih 2.0 tidak lagi sebuah badan yang berkecuali, sebaliknya seolah-olah sudah menjadi parti politik.

Bersih 2.0 mengadakan perhimpunan pada 9 Julai lalu di ibu negara meskipun dihalang dan disekat oleh pihak berkuasa termasuk Putrajaya mengisytiharkannya sebagai sebuah badan haram. Sehubungan itu, Aziz juga berkata bagi diri beliau demonstrasi jalan raya tidak menyelesaikan masalah dan lebih malang lagi difahamkan memorandum berkaitan tuntutan mereka belum dikemukakan kepada Yang di-Pertuan Agong lagi.

Kalau mereka betul-betul jujur sepatutnya sewaktu berjumpa Yang di-Pertuan Agong baru-bari ini mereka boleh menyerahkan memorandum itu.

Bukan sahaja boleh menyerahkan, malah menerangkan kenapa mereka membuat tuntutan itu. Kenapa mereka tidak melakukan itu dan memilih demonstrasi haram di jalanan? katanya.

Dalam tulisannya Aziz juga menyentuh mengenai tuntutan dihentikan amalan politik kotor. Aziz berkata, sebenarnya semua orang tidak suka orang main politik kotor dan sebab itu kita adakan undang undang supaya orang politik ini jangan bermain politik kotor.

Tetapi politik kotor ini dilakukan oleh ahli ahli politik, sepatutnya mereka sendiri yang menghalang politik kotor misalnya dengan tidak menipu, amanah, tidak kata lain buat lain, kata beliau lagi.

EC chief dubs Bersih leaders dishonest

Sebenarnya,Bersih jemput semua parti politik ambil bahagian bagi menjaminkan pilihanraya yang adil. Tapi BN/UMNO menolaknya, ini bermakna BN/UMNO sememangnya tak mahu pilihanraya secara adil dan telus.

Betullah kata engkau Tan Sri Aziz ooi, bahawa politik kotor dilakukan oleh ahli2 politik,BN & UMNO tak terkecuali. Sepatutnya SPR sebagai badan bebas perlu pastikan permainan politik kotor ini tak berlaku.

Tapi malangnya, yang kuat main politik kotor adalah towkay SPR itu sendiri-UMNO/BN. Jadi mana SPR ada teloq nak halang kegiatan2 haram itu,malah tambah bagi sokongan lagi ada....

God Save The Queen! :-)

Everyone is up in excitement over Her Majesty's outfit.

In fact, someone even mentioned that the flowers in the background are also yellow in colour!

I can explain the flowers. It is most likely that the flowers would have been chosen to match the Queen's dress. There are in-house consultants for this sort of thing, as celebrities (especially Royals) thrive on a positive public image.

However, the dress is a little hard to explain. I am sure the Queen would have been briefed on the recent history and current events of Malaysia prior to Najib's visit.

For an impartial stand politically, I would have expected the Queen to have worn something other than yellow. More startling is the fact that the Queen tends to wear pastel colours, while this outfit is anything but.

It would actually have been polite to have removed anything remotely yellow if she was to be politically neutral.

Perhaps the Queen actually has an opinion on the state of democracy in this country.

Ibu dakwa demo jejas perkahwinan anak

Walaupun perhimpunan haram di Kuala Lumpur telah berlalu seminggu lepas, namun peristiwa itu masih menghantui seorang ibu yang masih dirundung perasaan sedih dan pilu.

Impian Kamariya Rejab, 58, untuk melihat majlis perkahwinan anak tunggalnya disambut meriah tidak kesampaian apabila separuh daripada 3,000 tetamu jemputan tidak dapat hadir.

Ini berikutan kesukaran tetamu untuk sampai ke rumah pengantin di Kampung Pandan di Kuala Lumpur apabila pihak polis telah menutup beberapa batang jalan di ibu negara bagi menangani perhimpunan haram itu.

Kamariya mendakwa mengalami kerugian hampir RM45,000 apabila sajian makanan dan cenderahati untuk tetamu terbiar.

"Makcik jangkakan paling kurang pun 2,000 tetamu akan hadir namun hanya kira-kira 1,000 tetamu sahaja yang datang dan mereka terdiri daripada jiran sekeliling," katanya kepada pemberita di Kuala Lumpur hari ini.

Katanya bukan hanya tetamu dari Kuala Lumpur dijemput malah dari Singapura dan seluruh Malaysia turut diundang bagi memeriahkan perkahwinan anak perempuannya, Nor Rehan Jaharudin, 29.

Kamariya, yang bekerja di Singapura sejak 20 tahun lepas, mengecam tindakan penganjur perhimpunan itu kerana baginya keadaan di Malaysia sudah aman dan damai.

Kejadian itu juga membuatkannya tidak sihat sehingga kini kerana perhimpunan haram itu telah menjejaskan hari bahagia buat anaknya dan keluarga.

JULY 17 — A few days ago, I had a conversation with a taxi driver who was excited about July 9th. While he had supported the rally, and could list out the points for free and fair elections, he was too scared to attend because of the heavy police presence.

He told me of a Vietnamese passenger he had that day, who was curious about the many roadblocks around the city.

“I explained to him about the rally, and how the police were there to stop the people from entering the city.”

The Vietnamese was so surprised at his explanation, he told me.

“He said that it should be the other way around. That the police should be impartial, be there to protect the people, and let them rally for a few hours. He told me Malaysia is not a democracy. It’s true, isn’t it? Malaysia isn’t a democracy?”

I have but mixed feelings about the police and FRU behaviour on that day myself.

In my opinion, the tear gas attack in the KL Sentral tunnel was heavy-handed and extremely dangerous. [See my first-hand account of what happened in the tunnel on LoyarBurok: While there were some injuries (Anwar Ibrahim was among those who was hurt when shot at with a tear gas canister), there were thankfully no other casualties in the tunnel that day.

However, it could have been a different story. We cannot forget how Baharuddin Ahmad had paid for his rally participation with his life. Currently there are accusations that the police had withheld immediate treatment for Baharuddin.

I ask this: is tear gas or chemical water the wisest way to disperse groups of peaceful, and unarmed rally participants? Especially when they have nowhere else to run but into a confined space?

It was cruel and unnecessary, especially since the FRU were apparently ordered to fire tear gas canisters directly towards the people. What I saw that day, seems to confirm this accusation.

Then there are accusations of police brutality towards men who were suffering from the effects of tear gas. Don’t just take my word for it, take a look at the many videos documenting such attacks. In my opinion, it is not very brave to tackle people who are already partly incapacitated.

And yet, when the dust was settled, and the police had captured the people that they wanted to capture, we were treated with kindness and decency.

The police kept offering us water, and food. All acts of intimidation were dropped — and why not? We were already caught like lambs to the slaughter.

One officer told me, “Saya hanya ikut arahan.”

“Ya, saya faham tapi polis juga harus adil dan tidak ikut arahan membuta-tuli.”

I wanted to explain more but felt tired and confused.

While I have some sympathy for the police who felt that they were just doing their jobs, I feel that they, and the rest of us, have to take personal responsibility for their own actions.

We do have a choice to take the extra step, whether to withhold treatment for a dying man, or to punch someone who is already gasping for air and on the ground.

We have a choice to be humane, and yet still do our job.

I hope for the day where the rakyat can fully trust the Malaysian police in being treated with fairness and decency. I hope for the day that when I, along with thousands of fellow countrymen, who decide once again to assemble peacefully as per our Constitutional right, will be protected by the police, instead of being harassed, shot at with tear gas, and chased down. I hope for the day where I see the Malaysian police as my protector, instead of my oppressor.

In the meantime, I will wear yellow every Saturday, in support for the on-going call for electoral reforms in my country.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — Datuk Maznah Mazlan today blamed fresh graduates for their failure to secure jobs, saying their weak English conversational skills and pickiness were obstacles to landing employment.

The deputy human resource minister also said young graduates today held on to unrealistic expectations when it came to pay packages, as well as shunning jobs they felt were not a match to their qualifications.

Maznah said this fussiness allowed less-qualified applicants to secure employment in place of the graduates.

She later added that unemployment was currently at 3.1 per cent.

Wage stagnation is a prevalent issue in Malaysia, and the government recently pushed ahead with the National Wage Consultative Council (NWCC) Bill to pave the way for a long-awaited minimum wage policy.

In the ten years since 2000, wages grew an average of 2.6 per cent and have been outstripped by inflation.

The Najib administration is also aiming to push Malaysia out of its current “middle-income trap” and into developed nation status by 2020.

Lawyers want Lynas out of Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — The Malaysian Bar continued today its push for Australian miner Lynas Corp to move its RM700 million rare earths refinery in Kuantan out of the country, and blasted the authorities for failing to make public the project’s radioactive risk management.

It noted too the absence of Lynas Corp’s top leaders at the ground level to engage the local community who would be most directly affected by any radioactive fallout, half a month after an independent panel from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had submitted its report and recommendations.

“We note that the project is still very much shrouded in secrecy and characterised by a serious lack of transparency,” said Bar Council chief Lim Chee Wee in a statement.

“The level of engagement and consultation with people who will be most affected by the project has been extremely limited and woefully inadequate,” he added, noting the review board’s scope had not included any assessment of the plant’s impact, particularly on the environment, the employees and the community.

The lawyer described the lack of initiative from both Putrajaya and Lynas as “outrageous” as the potential impact from the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant’s (LAMP) radioactive wastes on human and environmental health were well known by now.

“It is highly arrogant and irresponsible that neither Nick Curtis, Chairman of Lynas Corporation, nor any senior representative of the company has been on the ground and continuously engaging with the community,” Lim said.

He said a series of 10 discussion sessions had been planned, but Lynas Corp “never directly attended the consultations” and the meetings were cancelled after only two sessions.

He further highlighted a recent report from influential US daily, New York Times, that there are serious construction and engineering flaws in the storage facilities for the radioactive waste that could result in grave contamination.

“The Malaysian Bar strongly urges the government to take all necessary steps to halt LAMP, and to protect its people and environment,” Lim said.

Usaha terdesak untuk lindungi Imelda Rosmah

Sejak kali pertama sebahagian bukti mengenai belian RM24.45 j itu didedahkan bukan sedikit puak-puak pengampu Imelda Rosmah muncul untuk membuat pembelaan.

Antara pembelaan 'segera' yang dihamburkan ialah

• gambar screen komputer itu kononya palsu dan dah diubah suai
• A. Krishnan tidak wujud
• tidak ada belian semahal RM24.45 j

Namun apabila SAMM tampil membuat laporan SPRM dan SPRM bertindak dengan 'menahan' individu yang namanya terdapat dalam sistem komputer tersebut, ini telah membuktikan bahawa pendedahan itu bukan palsu. Maka 'pengampu' terpaksa memasuki episod baru membuat pembelaan mengampu untuk membuktikan mereka membuat kerja.

Kita juga harus faham bukan sedikit yang dilaburkan oleh regim atau bagi pihak regim dalam memenangi perang cyber ini.

SPRM telah menahan A.Krishnan dan siasatan berkisar kepada bagaimana belian tersebut boleh dibawa masuk dengan cukai 'RM0' sahaja. Nampak sangat SPRM tidak membuat kerja rumah dengan betul. Memang menurut undang - undang yang telah dipinda oleh Najib dalam membentangkan belanjawan belian, perhiasan serta pakaian (termasuk yang mewah) tidak lagi dikenakan cukai. Adakah pindaan cukai itu untuk memenuhi selera individu tertentu ? Namun sesuatu yang amat berharga diperolehi dari tindakan SPRM ini ialah SPRM membuktikan bahawa data dari sistem kastam mengenai belian RM 24.4 j itu benar wujud dan bukan palsu.

Sebaik sahaja siasatan SPRM bermula maka sistem kastam di Kargo, KLIA telah '! down' ha mpir 3 jam. Kakitangan agen pengurusan kargo tidak lagi boleh mengakses sistem kastam seperti biasa selepas itu, perbagai 'syarat' dikenakan semuanya dijalankan secara 'manual'. Satu perkeliling ditampal mengenai perkara ini di papan kenyataan di Kargo, KLIA tetapi hanya beberapa jam dan ditanggalkan kembali mungkin kerana tidak mahu 'arahan rasmi' ini bocor. Ramai kakitangan agen pengurusan kargo marah kerana kerja yang seharusnya boleh selesai dengan mudah tetapi kini susah seperti mahu menyelindungkan sesuatu.

Kami telah menjangkakan sebelum ini pun data dalam sistem ini mungkin saja akan dipadamkan atau dipinda untuk menjaga Imelda Rosmah. Bayangkan dalam kes lebih serius iaitu kes pembunuhan Altantuya rekod imegresen pun boleh dipadamkan.

Najib pernah bersumpah dengan nama Allah bukan sahaja tidak pernah jumpa malah tidak pernah kenal dengan Altantuya, tetapi sehingga kini masih berdiam dengan cabaran YB Saifuddin Nasution Ismail yang mencabar Najib menafikan yang Najib pernah bersama naik satu penerbangan dengan Altantuya.

Kini selepas sistem kastam 'down' hampir 3 jam, semalam muncul pula borang asal (hanya boleh dicetak oleh pegawai tinggi kastam atau agen pengurusan terlibat) transaksi membawa masuk belian RM 24.45 j tersebut dan muncul juga kononya borang 2, kastam yang kononya membuktikan belian itu dibawa keluar ke Singapura 4 hari selepas belian itu masuk.

Kononya belian itu hanya untuk pameran belian yang dibuat di rumah VVIP sahaja dan kemudian dibawa keluar semula ke Singapura.

Menurut sumber dalaman kita yang meragui mengenai kewujudan borang kedua tersebut menyatakan

kalau tengok kat borang 2 Kastam yang muncul selepas sistem kastam 'down', belian tersebut keluar guna hand carry dan borang secara 'manual' keluar ke Singapura...cuba lihat betul-betul kenapa FOB tak sama!!! sedangkan FOB adalah nilai sebenar barang mengikut invoice...mustahil atau tidak barang yg keluar nie b! arang la in sikit (yg murah sikit)...lagi satu cuba tgk maklumat asal yg kita dapat no invoice tak sama!!! Nombor daftar ROC Jacob & co pun tak sama!!!

Kini mungkinkah mereka sedang bersungguh - sungguh ingin mencari rumah VVIP mana yang akan direkayasa sebagai tempat konon telah diadakan pameran 'sulit' tersebut. Sudah tentu akan disusun tetamu-tetamu sulit untuk membuktikan telah diadakan pameran sulit tersebut.

Kalau tak betul hari pertama lagi Imelda dah muncul nafi. Sekarang ini dijemput Imelda Rosmah tampil untuk menyatakan sepatah dua kata mengenai perkara ini.

PM: Demo bukan jawapan

"Sekiranya ada pihak yang masih tidak berpuas hati dengan kerajaan, marilah kita selesaikannya apabila tiba pilihan raya dan biar rakyat yang membuat keputusan," kata Datuk...

Datuk Seri Najib Razak berkata demonstrasi jalanan bukan jawapan bagi melahirkan rasa ketidakpuasan hati terhadap kerajaan kerana perbuatan itu boleh menjadi terkawal dan mungkin mengakibatkan kecederaan serta kerosakan harta benda.

"Sekiranya ada pihak yang masih tidak berpuas hati dengan kerajaan, marilah kita selesaikannya apabila tiba pilihan raya dan biar rakyat yang membuat keputusan.

"Kami akan bentangkan kes kami dan pembangkang akan kemukakan kes mereka. Biar rakyat yang menentukannya," kata Perdana Menteri ketika berucap pada perhimpunan rakyat Malaysia di United Kingdom (UK) di London, pada Jumaat malam.

Majlis itu menjadi penutup tirai lawatan rasmi beliau selama empat hari ke United Kingdom atas undangan Perdana Menteri Britain David Cameron.

Kata Najib: "Kita tidak perlukan semua ini (demonstrasi). Apa yang kita mahu ialah sebuah negara Malaysia yang ditransformasikan, sebuah negara Malaysia yang boleh menjadi kebanggaan dan kesayangan kita.

"Kita mahukan sebuah negara yang boleh berdiri sama tinggi dengan negara yang maju sepenuhnya, yang boleh menjadi contoh ketara sebagai sebuah negara maju. Inilah harapan kita untuk Malaysia.

"Kalau pun kami hendak dianggap membuat kesilapan, kesilapan itu semata-mata bertujuan untuk memastikan ketenteraman, keselamatan awam dan keharmonian awam sentiasa terpelihara kerana apabila berlaku sesuatu kesilapan, ia akan merebak dengan amat pantas dan sukar untuk dibayangkan apa yang akan terjadi selepas itu kerana keganasan pasti akan membuahkan keganasan juga," katanya.

Merujuk kepada beberapa perkara, termasuk pencapaian pembangkang pilihan raya umum lepas, Najib berkata itu menunjukkan wujudnya demokrasi di Malaysia.

"Dan pilihan raya di Malaysia diadakan secara bersih. Kalau anda rasa itupun belum memadai, kami akan laku! kannya d engan lebih baik lagi -- kami akan perkenalkan sistem biometrik, contohnya, untuk memastikan tidak wujud pengundi hantu," kata beliau.

PERINGATAN UNTUK PR

Penanda-penanda signifikan yang muncul melalui keputusan PRU Ke-12 ialah perpindahan yang amat ketara undi kaum Cina dan India kepada PR. Secara menyeluruh, orang-orang Melayu, terutama penghuni kawasan luar bandar dan pedalaman masih setia kepada BN. Namun, trend perubahan mula kelihatan di Perlis, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, dan Johor.

Sehubungan itu, keempat-empat negeri itu tidak boleh lagi dianggap sebagai kubu kuat BN. Angin perubahan yang bertiup kencang termasuk di Sabah dan Sarawak akan mencederakan BN. Situasi inilah yang perlu diambil kesempatan oleh PR untuk mempertingkatkan jumlah sokongan kepada mereka.

Semua pihak perlu sedar bahawa kemerosotan sokongan terhadap BN disebabkan oleh kegagalan mereka membaca kehendak rakyat. Rakyat telah bosan dengan lakonan mutu rendah BN. Setelah menghilang selama lima tahun, mereka muncul menunjuk muka berbekalkan berbagai-bagai bentuk habuan bagi memperbaharui mandat.

Ketika itulah mereka sedar tentang pentingnya merendah diri. Jika perlu, mereka sanggup tunduk memeohon restu rakyat. Namun, rakyat pada hari ini bukanlah seperti rakyat tahun 70-an, 80-an, dan 90-an yang belum boleh berdikari, malah amat memerlukan bantuan atau tongkat untuk berjalan.

Harus diingat bahawa golongan daif hanya wujud di kawasan-kawasan pedalaman, sama ada di Semenanjung Malaysia, Sabah, atau Sarawak. Mereka ini ketinggalan dalam pelbagai bidang. Mereka tidak memperoleh maklumat selain daripada tv dan akhbar pro-BN. Oleh sebab itu, pemikiran mereka masih tertutup. Golongan inilah yang mudah diperkotakkatikkan oleh BN. Di sinilah letaknya lubuk atau kubu kuat BN.

PR perlu mempunyai strategi khas untuk menguasai pengundi di kawasan-kawasan pedalaman.Pasukan khas yang terdiri daripada pelbagai lapisan masyarakat perlu ditubuhkan untuk memberi penjelasan berhemah, panduan, tunjuk cara, dan bersosialisasi. Dengan berbuat demikian, go! longan i ni mampu berdikari, terbuka mindanya, dan tidak lagi berserah pada nasib semata-mata.

Hal yang sama perlu dipraktikkan kepada golongan daif yang mendiami pinggir bandar. PR perlu menerima hakikat bahawa semua masalah boleh diselesaikan. Yang penting dalam soal ini ialah usaha, keazaman, dan keikhlasan menghulurkan bantuan.

Semua aktivitis PR perlu menghayati dan melaksanakan lirik lagu "Budi Bahasa Budaya Kita" yang berbunyi:

Kitaberkhidmat jujur dan ikhlas,

Mencurah bakti tak minta dibalas.

Semua pihak harus sedar bahawa BN tidak pernah ikhlas bila menjalankan tanggungjawab kepada rakyat. Apa-apa juga yang mereka buat mesti ada maksud tersiratnya. Mereka tidak memberi sesuatu tanpa mengharapkan balasan. Mengungkit telah menjadi trade mark para pemimpin BN.

Buktinya telah sama-sama kita lihat selepas tamatnya PRK Bukit Gantang dahulu.. Setelah berbagai-bagai benda ditaburkan kepada orang Cina, UMNO masih kalah. Sokongan orang Cina tertap juga kepada PAS/PR. Kekesalan dan kemarahan Muhyiddin terhadap orang Cina disiarkan secara terbuka dalam akhbar arus perdana berbahasa Melayu.

PR perlu membentuk imej positif yang berbeza sama sekali dengan BN. Jangan sekali-kali terjebak ke dalam perbuatan yang memakan diri sendiri. Berjanjilah sesudah anda betul-betul yakin dapat menunaikannya.

Keluarga Baharudin harap tiada 'cover up'

Anggota keluarga Baharudin Ahmad hari ini menyerahkan memorandum kepada Ketua Polis Tan Sri Ismail Omar ekoran kematian arwah selepas menyertai perhimpunan BERSIH 2.0 genap seminggu lalu.

Diwakili adik lelaki arwah Kassim dan anaknya Azhar, mereka diiringi beberapa pemimpin utama PKR, termasuk naib presidennya N Surendran, dan aktivis daripada kumpulan peguam Lawyers for Liberty.

Menurut memorandum yang diedarkan pengarah biro guaman parti Latheefa Koya, anggota keluarga pemandu teksi itu antaranya mahukan penjelasan berhubung "serangan fizikal" terhadap peserta BERSIH 2.0, termasuk Baharudin.

"Allahyarham berada di kawasan Jalan Ampang apabila serangan polis termasuk dengan gas pemedih mata dilakukan.

"Terdapat saksi-saksi kukuh yang menyatakan bahawa percubaan dibuat untuk mendapatkan bantuan bagi allahyarham daripada dua anggota polis yang berada di kawasan tersebut, tetapi tidak diendahkan oleh mereka," memorandum itu dipetik.

Pemangku Ketua Polis Kuala Lumpur Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh pada 10 julai lalu dilaporkan berkata kematian Baharudin akibat komplikasi jantung dan bukannya berpunca daripada gas pemedih mata.

Bagaimanapun, memorandum hari ini mendakwa beberapa tulang rusuk allahyarham patah, giginya hilang sebatang dan terdapat luka pada bibir.

Mahu laporan disiar pada awam

Sebaliknya pihak polis dan kerajaan segera menafikan bahawa pihak polis bertanggungjawab bagi kematian ini, tanpa melakukan sebarang siasatan yang lengkap.

"Tindakan ini adalah tidak ikhlas dan dilihat oleh orang awam sebagai satu percubaan untuk cover-up (menutup) peristiwa ini," memorandum itu dipetik.

Sehubungan itu, anggota keluarga, PKR dan aktivis peguam itu menuntut supaya kesemua pegawai polis, termasuk pegawai-pegawai tertinggi yang mem! erintah operasi di kawasan tersebut digantung tugas sehingga selesai penyiasatan kes.

Manakala tuntutan lain dalam memorandum itu supaya:

• Penyiasatan yang komprehensif tanpa sebarang percubaan untuk melindung mana-mana pihak dijalankan dengan segera.
• Laporan penuh penyiasatan ini dicetak dan disiarkan kepada orang awam.
• Tindakan pendakwaan dibawa ke atas semua pegawai polis walaupun seberapa tinggi pangkatnya, yang bertanggungjawab bagi kematian arwah.
• Ketua polis negara dengan segera meminta maaf dengan keluarga allahyarham dan keseluruhan rakyat Malaysia kerana menyalahguna kuasa dan menggunakan kekerasan berlebihan terhadap rakyat.

Protes kunjungan Najib di kota London...

Mungkin Najib Razak bersama sepupunya Hishamuddin Hussein akan beralasan, rakyat Malaysia yang menanti kedatangannya di London dengan sepanduk berwarna kuning mengecam tindakan mereka terhadap para himpunan Bersih hanya beberapa orang saja dan perbuatan itu tidak pun dapat memecahkan butir gatal di bekalang mereka.

Itulah ulasan yang akan diberikan oleh kedua adik beradik sepupu bangsawan itu. Tetapi di dalam hati mereka hanya Tuhan saja yang tahu betapa aibnya mereka. Betapa tidak, rakyat negara sendiri mengejek kedatangan mereka. Apa yang sepatutnya mereka terima mendapat sambutan dan alu-alu rakyat Malaysia sebagai menandakan kebangaan kerana pembesar mereka mengunjungi London.

Kalau tidak percaya, cari serorang gila atau tidak 'berapa sara' untuk menanti kedatangan Anwar Ibrahim di mana-mana airport di luar negeri. Pasti tindakan lelaki itu akan diperbesarkan oleh televisyen dan akhbar arus perdana negara ini akan mengulas betapa Anwar dicemuh bukan saja dalam negeri tetapi di luar negara juga. Kejadian itu hatta dilakukan oleh orang gila pasti akan dieksploitasikan.

Ini sudah dapat ditengok sendiri dengan apa yang berlaku di dalam negara. Ada perbuatan yang dibuat oleh mereka yang bejat moralnya, cemar peribadinya tetapi diangkat dan diangungkan begitu rupa sekali kerana ianya menghemtam dan mengodam Anwar. Media berkenaan yang setaraf dan sama cemar dengan orang itu tidak mengirakan apakah sumbernya berwibawa, berintegriti atau sebaliknya. Yang penting mereka membelasah Anwar.

Kalau berlaku kejadian itu, pasti Utusan Melayu akan meletakkan gambar lelaki gila yang mengangkat sepanduk itu di muka depan. Begitu juga dengan tv3 akan menyiarkan berulang kali akan gambar lelaki berkenaan menjulang sepanduk mengutuk dan mengejek Anwar.

Dalam perhitungan akhbar dan tv berkenaan angka tidak menjadi masalah. Malahan angka akan ditambah kerana itulah kerja mereka. Apa yang penting ialah ia berlaku di luar negara yang membawa dan memberi imej besar. Malangnya sehingga hari ini tak berlaku terjadi lagi ada rakyat Malaysia mengangkat sepanduk di lapanngan terbang mengecam Anwar dan Wan Azizah.

Tetapi kerana Najib dan Hishamuddin selalu dilindungi dan dikosmetikkan oleh media massa seolah-olah kejadian itu tidak begitu memalukannya. Ia seolah-olah tidak terjadi apa-apa. - Mohd.Sayuti Omar

That should remind those in Umno that the aspirations of the rakyat cannot be taken for granted. The rakyat expect the government to be fair and tolerant in facing the rakyat's grievances.

With the apple-polishing members surrounding Najib's inner cycle, the government is regressing and the rakyat are made to pay for the government's mistakes. Logic and common sense have long abandoned the Umno/BN regime. Now is the right time for the rakyat to correct the wrongs.

Alan Goh: Asri, the culture of blind loyalty to Umno and the lack of tolerance for dissent started from 1981 when the fake-Malay PM (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) took over. Corruption and abuse of power, rewarding cronies and Umnoputras with APs, contracts, etc, binded their loyalty to one person only, the president of Umno.

The racial polarisation and the rot we see today are the legacies left behind by the ex-PM after 23 years of his corrupt rule. That is the sole reason Umno is 'kotor' and against Bersih.
