EC stands by RO's decision not to hold a recount
2011/04/21

KUCHING: The Sarawak Election Commission is standing by the decision taken by its returning officer in not ordering a recount of votes for the Senadin seat in the state polls on Saturday.

Sarawak EC director Datuk Takun Sunggah said the decision taken by Chai Ko
Het in rejecting a request by Parti Keadilan Rakyat for a recount was the right
decision and was in accordance to the procedures and rules.

"Dissatisfied parties can file an election petition with the High Court
within 21 days after the election results are gazetted," he said in a statement

here today.

The Barisan Nasional's candidate Datuk Lee Kim Shin defeated PKR's Dr

Michael Teo Yu Keng by a majority of just 58 votes for the Senadin seat. Lee polled 7,334 votes while Teo 7,276 votes. -- Bernama

Sex tape2 Is the police suffering knock-out blow in public confidence...

It is exactly one month ago that Malaysians were sprung with the alleged Anwar Ibrahim sex tape made public by a cloak-and-dagger screening at the Carcosa Sri Negara on March 21 to select media representatives.

Malaysians now know that this is Alleged Anwar Sex Tape2 as 12 years ago in 1999, a sex video linking Anwar had surfaced and was investigated by the police. This was revealed by Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim, who was then the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Division (CID) chief and who had investigated the Alleged Anwar Sex Tape1.

The Police had dismissed the Alleged Anwar Sex Tape1 as a smear and attempt at character assassination of Anwar in 1999. The Alleged Anwar Sex Tape2 is the latest attempt to smear and character-assassinate Anwar.

Zain has asked the Police to widen its investigations into the Carcosa sex video to ascertain whether there are any possible links between the two Alleged Anwar Sex Tapes separated by 12 years, viz:

1. Is Sex Video I also authentic now that Sex Video II has been officially declared authentic?

2. Are the contents of Sex Video I the same in full or in part with Sex Video II?

3. Is the identity of the man in Sex Video II that police have declared can be determined positively the same as the man in Sex Video I?

4. Does the voice of the man in Sex Video I belong to the man who is said to be identifiable in Sex Video II?

5. Does the voice of the woman in Sex Video I belong to the woman who is said to have been identified in Sex Video II?

6. Is the recording location of Sex Video I the same as Sex Video II?

7. Are the trio involv! ed or pl ayed any role in the production or distribution of Sex Video I in 1999, seeing as they have been identified as having a relationship with Anwar? More so Rahim (former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Rahim Tamby Chik) who is believed to have cause for revenge as Anwar had accused the former Umno Youth chief of corruption just three months before Sex Video I was made public on November 24 and 25, 1999.

During the 1999 general election campaign at that time, Keadilan Deputy President Dr. Chandra Muzaffar condemned the Alleged Anwar Sex Tape1 in no uncertain terms, dismissing it as yet another vicious, malicious endeavour by Anwars political and corporate foes to discredit and denigrate him.

Now, has the Alleged Sex Tape1 dismissed by the police as a smear on Anwar re-appeared in part or in whole as the Carcosa sex video 12 years later?

I must remind the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ismail Omar that the Carcosa sex tape or Alleged Anwar Sex Tape2 has put the independence, credibility, professionalism and reputation of the Malaysian Royal Police Force on the line and the police are in danger of suffering a knock-out blow in public confidence which only a change of government can restore.

The police suffered the worst blow of public confidence in its history in 1998 when it allowed political and extraneous considerations to compromise and undermine police professionalism and integrity in the Anwar black eye episode and investigations.

Mat Zain was then the investigation officer for the Anwar black eye episode and there would have been no need for any royal commission of inquiry to find out that it was the then Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Rahim Noor who had assaulted Anwar if Mat Zain had been allowed to complete his investigations without obstruction from higher authorities, including the Attorney-Generals Chambers with the present Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail playing a prominent role in ! the subv ersion of justice and the rule of law 12 years ago.

The police has not yet fully recovered from the 1998 blow to public confidence in police independence, credibility, professionalism and reputation from the Anwar black eye episode.

Now, if the police again allows political and extraneous forces and factors to dictate its investigations into the Alleged Anwar Sex Tap;e2 episode, it will be a knockout blow to public confidence in police independence, credibility, professionalism and reputation which only a change of government can repair and restore.

For the past month, right-thinking Malaysians have been asking two questions:

1. Why police have not yet arrested the trio of Datuk T, namely Rahim, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Datuk Shuib Lazim for various crimes including Section 292 of the Penal Code for publicly exhibiting any obscene or pornographic material liable to a jail term of three years or Section 5(1) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 where a person is liable to be fined up to RM50,000 or jailed up to five years or both. Do the trio enjoy immunity and impunity for breaches of the law and actions which have brought world-wide shame to the nation?

2. How Malaysian public and international opinion are to be convinced that the police and the top Umno and Cabinet leaders including the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein were not privy to the Sri Carcosa sex tape caper and to the identities of the trio in Dato T whether before or immediately after the screening of the sex video.

The despicable and dastardly political ploy to destroy both Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyats chances in the Sarawak general elections have failed, and Najib and BN leaders must be warned that the continued resort to such gutter politics may prove to be the last straw to break the back of public confidence in the credibility and legitimacy of the Najib premiership a! nd to co nvince the majority of the people that the time has come to end the mandate of Barisan Nasional and Umno to continue to govern Malaysia.

The police are on trial. The Prime Minister is also on trial. - Lim Kit Siang

Umno Youth: Sacrifice greying Chinese leaders

MalaysiaKini - UMNO
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno Youth believes that the time has come for Chinese-based parties in Barisan Nasional to stop playing the oldies, and opt for new tunes to keep up with DAP.
Based on the outcome of the Sarawak polls, the wings deputy chief Norman Zahalan said that the old guards must make way for the young turks.
He said the Chinese community was rejecting the present leadership of such parties.

It happened in 2008 where Gerakan and MCA were whipped in Penang as well as Perak and it recurred last week in Sarawak, where SUPP was largely rejected by the Chinese voters, he added.
Norman stressed that even veteran SUPP president George Chan was ousted by a 28-year-old DAP
rookie and lawyer who just completed his chambering tenure with his party chairman Karpal Singhs law firm in Kuala Lumpur.
Kuching, the Sarawak capital, was now dominated by DAP, he said, adding that in mostly urbanised seats, the opposition party held sway since Umno was focused on PKR and PAS.
Look at Guan Engs hair

He said DAP had become a strong political force as it managed to capture the minds of the young who were easily the most impressionable group of voters.
Look at (Penang) Chief Minister (and DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng, he still has black hair but if we look at his political foes, they are all greying.
Norman said Umno should remain loyal to MCA, Gerakan and SUPP but the party must convince its BN partners to revamp their line-up and come up with younger and energetic leaders to compete with DAP.
He said Um! no had d one its part as Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was relatively younger than his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Following which, he claimed, there was a sense that the Malay and bumiputera ground had shifted back to BN.
Norman said Gerakan, MCA and SUPP should not take his comments personally, urging them to understand that certain sacrifices must be made to remain relevant with the highly demanding Chinese electorate.
In Penang, Norman singled out Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon and state party chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan, as those who need to consider paving the way for a younger group of leaders.
Some senior Umno leaders shared the views of Norman in private but preferred to remain mum to avoid antagonising their Chinese BN colleagues.

Kit Siangs merger idea irks Bian

MalaysiaKini - PKR
KUCHING: PKR Sarawak appears upset by DAP leader Lim Kit Siangs proposal that his party merge with SNAP and wants him to explain.
In a statement critical of SNAPs political performance and its attitude towards Pakatan Rakyat, Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian said such a proposal should have been discussed among the opposition partners before being publicised.
Since we are Pakatan Rakyat partners, we would appreciate a clarification of this proposal from Lim, he said.

Bian recalled that SNAP explicitly opposed Pakatan in the recent state election by fielding candidates in 26 seats.
SNAP has also consistently been negatively critical of PKR for reasons best known only to them, he said.
Sarawak PKR is deeply disappointed and saddened by SNAPs approach within PR since we have always regarded SNAP as our partner.
As proven by its disastrous electoral performance, SNAP has no electoral machinery, little political capital and even less social clout on the ground.
The total votes garnered by all of SNAPs candidates combined were less than those garnered by independent candidates.

Bian, who is now the state assemblyman for BaKelalan, described SNAPs political strategy as inexplicable, saying it served only to confuse the electorate, weaken PR and ultimately deliver electoral success to the BN.
We are therefore deeply puzzled by Lims purpose in suggesting a merger between the DAP and a party like SNAP, he said.
Dissolve SNAP
He said such proposals should be thoroughly discussed behind closed doors.
This would ensure that all component parties of PR understand and endorse the objectives of such a possible merger, which ultimately must strengthen the coalition.
Additionally, Sarawak PKR is of the view that any such mergers by coalition partners must enhance diversity and reflect the multi-ethnic realities of politics in Malaysia instead of deepening any existing ethnic cleavages which would only serve the sectarian politics of the BN.
Finally, Sarawak PKR is of the opinion that the best way forward is for SNAP to dissolve itself and SNAP members to join whatever parties they wish to in their fight against oppression and for justice and development in Sarawak.
In this way, we believe that SNAP cannot ever be made use of as a vehicle to further undermine the stable coherence of Pakatan Rakyat in the years to come.
On Tuesday, Lim, who is DAPs parliamentary leader, proposed that DAP and SNAP merge in time for the next general election in order to better serve the Iban-Dayak community.
He said that such a merger would accelerate the Iban-Dayak political awakening following the recently concluded Sarawak general election.
SNAP immediately responded by saying that it was surprised by the proposal and needed to discuss it among its leaders.

Government must declare how many deaths linked to MACC

Government must declare how many deaths linked to MACC
MalaysiaKini - Mariam Mokhtar
Is there a secret death squad which exists within the MACC, known only to a handful of people and which operates by eliminating those who know too much?
You know you are on the right track when a police report is made against you as it confirms that someone is afraid and is trying to intimidate you by involving the police.
That is precisely what happened to Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming. His allegation that 1,839 people had died at the hands of Malaysian Anti Corruption Agency in the past 10 years, sparked the curious response from the MACC. Ngas remarks had been reported in the China Press online on 7 April 2011.

MACC senior superintendent Mohd Azwan Ramli lodged a report against Nga, at the Putrajaya police headquarters.
If what Nga said was wrong and misleading, why make a police report against him?
Why not refute Ngas remarks and tell us how many actual deaths the MACC is responsible for?
There must be some truth in Ngas statement as even the MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed declined to comment on Nga's statement or other issues, including on the death of Selangor customs assistant director, Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed, 56.
Ahmad Sarbani was found dead on the first floor of the Kuala Lumpur MACC office on Wednesday.
People are familiar with Teoh Beng Hocks death, from the 14thfloor of the MACC building. It is significant perhaps because Teohs death was the first for when the MACC had just been formed and when N! ajib Abd ul Razak had just taken over as Prime minister.
Teohs death is one too many. The MACC tried to pin it down as a suicide but have so far been unsuccessful.
The whole nation was shocked when Ahmad Sarbani died. Again, there were people who wanted to create the impression that Ahmad Sarbani had committed suicide.
But Ahmad Sarbani was not the second death from an MACC building.
A few months earlier, another man had died after falling from the Kuching MACC building. Ho Hong Chai, 57, and a retired income tax officer from Green Heights, had apparently jumped off the 17thfloor and was found dead on the roofing of the first floor at the Sultan Iskandar building. The MACC denied rumours that Ho had been called in for interrogation.

Ho is not the third to die from falling or being pushed out of a building.
On 17thSeptember 2004, a Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE) investigating officer Rumie Azzan fell from the 9th floor of Sarawak Timber Association (STA) in Kuching.
Thats four deaths Rumi Azzan and Ho Hong Chai, who were called in for questioning, in Kuching, Sarawak whilst Teoh and Sarbani died in peninsular Malaysia.
The MACC cannot keep these mysterious deaths quiet anymore. These people all fell from a great height, from government buildlings.
Authorising the MACC to hold interrogations only on the ground floor of any MACC premises, is daft. Why treat the symptoms and not the disease itself?
If someone has to be silenced because he knows too much, it could easily be engineered that the man being interrogated would conveniently fall under the wheels off a bus, after he has walked out of the ground floor of the MACC building.
MACC must be disbanded as the public is fast losing its confidence in the whole outfit.
Ramon Navaratnam, the former chairman of the MACC Corruption Prevention Panel, expressed regret that the commission did not install closed-circuit TV althou! gh it ha s been nearly two years since Teohs death.
"I am sure cost is not the issue here. After such a bad experience with Teoh, I would have expected the first directive to go out was that there must cameras installed at the corridors and rooms," Ramon said.
While MACC has made numerous arrests and exposed several officers for having illicit stashes of cash and gold bars in their bank accounts and homes, it has failed to arrest any politician or high ranking leader.

Datuks horrified with moral police targeting luxury hotels

The senior ministry official who was arrested on 16 April in a Penang luxury hotel has finally been identified as Youth and Sports Ministry deputy secretary-general Salim Parlan. He claimed trial to committing khalwat (close proximity) with his personal assistant, 28-year old Nur Diayana Norslan.
Salim was confused. His mistake was to take the literal meaning of his colleagues job title Personal assistant, (P.A.) too seriously.
Others know that the PA does office work, writing business letters, organising meetings and general administrative work only. But then, it takes two to tango. Nur Diayana is not blameless.

Nevertheless, past raids by the moral police meant that only seedy establishments or low-budget hotels were their usual haunts. The overall public perception was that people on low incomes made easy targets whilst the elite was spared.
Promiscuous people come from all walks of life but because the moral police seemed reluctant to raid the luxury hotels, rich people and well connected people, usually escape prosecution.
Look at how Kartika Sri Dewi had her personal life destroyed when she was treated like a common criminal for drinking beer, whilst the well heeled Malays and their feral children, run riot in the exclusive bars, watering holes and clubs in Malaysia.
Malaysian society is fractured, but to have a multi-tiered system in Malay social circles is terrible. Top of the list is the Umnoputra elite - Malaysias new Brahmin, whilst the women languish at bott! om of th is list.
Salim was charged under Section 27(a) of the Penang Syariah Criminal Enactment 1996 while Nur Diayana was charged under Section 27(b) of the enactment.
If convicted, each of them could be fined up to RM3,000 or jailed not more than two years or both.
Syariah Lower Court judge Nik Bukhari Hashimy Nik Yahya set June 20 for mention and set bail at RM2,000 in one surety.
What on earth was Counsel Wan Faridulhadi Mohd Yusoff thinking when he proposed that Salim's first wife be allowed to post bail for Salim? Why should Salims first wife post bail for a straying husband who probably told her that he was detained on official business and had to do some overtime? Is Counsel Wan Faridfulhadi dense? We would not be surprised if Salims first wife decided to leave Salim in jail to rot or worse still, do a Loretta Bobbitt on her husband.
Fortunately, the Syariah Lower Court judge Nik Bukhari Hashimy treated this particular khalwat case with a bit more sensitivity and allowed a friend of Salim to post bail.
Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department officers, accompanied by a policeman, conducted checks at a luxury hotel in Batu Ferringhi at about 4am and found 51-year-old Salim and his personal assistant inside a room.
At the end of the day, what people want to do in their own time, after work is their own business. We do not need moral policing.
Those who agree with moral policing say that it is needed to control the increasing numbers of Muslims who stray away from the religion. Opponents say that moral policing humiliates people and that there are better ways to make them better Muslims.
In many civilised countries, people who watch others being intimate can be charged with committing a sex crime.
In Malaysia, these voyeurs and sexual deviants have job openings in the moral-police force, to spy on courting couples. The only qualifications needed are the ability to listen and see.

One v olunteer told a newspaper, We listen for sounds of heavy breathing and kissing. We then move in and aim our torchlights on the couples. In most cases, they are caught naked.
Another said, Rather than arresting the fornicators straight away, the anti-vice squadprefers toobservethe couple for a while, not forany untoward purpose but purelyto get evidence for prosecution purposes.
Victims of the moral police find it degrading, humiliating and an invasion of ones privacy. At the end of the day, arent these moral policemen just peeping toms who derive a cheap sexual thrill and pleasure from snooping on couples.
The fabulously wealthy men fly their mistresses out for their trysts. The Whos who of the Malay world can be found in the casinos of London, Vegas and Monaco/Monte Carlo with women, who are not their wives.
Singapore is the normal haunt for the dirty weekend close by, convenient and large enough to be inconspicuous.
Poor Salim, he just could not wait to do creative overtime. Now he has all the time in the world to repent at leisure.
Adulterous Malays always assumed luxury hotels were safe havens. How will the management of these hotels like it when tourists complain about the raids?
Remember how Malaysias tourism received negative publicity when an American couple whose yacht broke down in Langkawi, was humiliated by the moral police?
Will one Malay mans affair affect the countrys tourism? So will raiding luxury hotels be the norm from now on?
The government will never allow that to happen. Salim was probably targeted because someone higher up did not like him. - MalaysiaKini

Memory-refreshing exercise for MACC officer

MalaysiaKini - MACC l Teoh Beng Hock
KUALA LUMPUR: For a few minutes the court where the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) was conducting its investigation into the death of Teoh Beng Hock went silent and dark when a member of the royal panel did something strange on a witness in a bid to refresh the latters memory.
Commissioner Dr Mohamed Hatta Shaharom, who is a consultant forensic psychiatrist, asked Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commissions (MACC) assistant enforcement officer, Bulkini Paharuddin, to recall an incident outside a toilet where he claimed to have seen Teoh at the then Selangor MACC headquarters at Plaza Masalam.
Earlier, Bulkini, 48, repeated his testimony that he accompanied his witness, Tan Boon Wah, to the toilet door at 2.15am on July 16, 2009, and saw a Chinese man walking in.
Bulkini, who understands Mandarin, said he heard a loud voice Ni Loh (Mandarin for its you) and he believed, from the intonation and the loudness, that it had meant its all because of you.
Bulkini believed the voice came from Tan but he did not know if the Chinese man was Teoh. However, he later recognised the person, especially Teohs white pants, from an image from the TV3 news on television.
Then came the memory-refreshing exercise.
Said Hatta: Im going to to something strange. He asked the court helpers to turn off all the projectors and computers as well as the court lights near the witness.
He then asked Bulkini to close his eyes and relax for 60 seconds.
I want you to imagine you are at your favourit! e place in the world for 10 seconds. Then immediately bring your mind to the episode at the toilet. This is very important, Hatta told Bulkini, who nodded.
Imagine when you were with Tan (Boon Wah) and you saw a man coming in till the time you heard the exclamation of Ni Loh, said Hatta, and indicated that the witness could start the exercise.

Pin-drop silence
A minute of pin-drop silence ensued until Hatta said Bulkini could open his eyes and describe what he saw, especially the appearance and apparel of the unknown person, on a blank piece of paper.
He also asked Bulkini to repeat the meditation exercise to visualise the image of Teohs body that he had seen on the TV news.
When asking Bulkini to read out what he had written, he warned: Youve sworn to tell the truth here. And Allah is your witness and youre answerable in the afterlife.
Bulkini nodded and read out: I saw a person in white pants, he had his head bowed he opened the toilet door with his right hand. He wore a black top.
(For the TV image), I saw a person lying on the floor in a gruesome condition. Black top and white pants.
Hatta then asked Bulkini to tell the commission how long it took and what he was in his mind when the television image triggered the memories of the white-coloured pants.
Now in my mind, (the white pants) is all I can see. I waited (about a week to reveal) because I was afraid to tell anyone immediately. I was fearful that it would end up like this people accusing me (of lying).
Teoh, a political aide to Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam.
He was interrogated the night before by MACC officers at their office, located on the 14th floor of the same building. They were investigating alleged misuse of state allocations.
On Jan 5 this year, coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas returned ! an open verdict after an inquest, ruling out both suicide and homicide.
Subsequently, the government caved in to public pressure and established the commission now in session. It is investigating both the cause of Teohs death and if there were any impropriety in MACCs interrogation of Teoh.

Worried LDP warns Sabah BN of losing support

MalaysiaKini - Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: Chinese-dominated Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), rattled by the outcome of the just-concluded Sarawak state election, has hit out at Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership of both states for being out of touch with the feelings of the people.
LDP deputy president Chin Su Phin said the mass abandonment of the BN leadership by the people in the urban areas in Sarawak showed the degree of frustration felt in the state.
He said the same was being felt in Sabah and warned that the coalition still appeared unaware of the needs of the masses, particularly the Chinese community.

He said although BN retained a two-thirds majority (winning 55 of the 71 seats), support for the ruling coalition dropped to 55% from 63% in the previous state election.
This means that almost half of the popular votes went to the opposition, said Chin when commenting on the April 16 Sarawak state polls.
In the Chinese-majority seats, about 80% of the votes went to the opposition, particularly the DAP which won 13 of the 19 seats that are mainly concentrated in the urban areas.
Even PKR won three seats of which one is a predominantly Dayak area, he said in a statement.
According to Chin, both Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his Deputy Muhyiddin Yassin knew what the pressing issues were in Sarawak well before the election.
SUPP a victim
Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud should be thankful to Najib and Muhyiddin and the entire federal cabinet members who went all out campaigning for the BN during the election, he said.
It was the first time we saw both the PM and ! DPM camp aign together for one week if not for the two leaders, the result of the Sarawak state election would have been different the BN might have failed to get a two-thirds majority.
Chin also pointed out how BNs Chinese-dominated component party Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) was almost wiped out, with its president Dr George Chan suffering a humiliating defeat.
He said that Chan understood his precarious position prior to the election and was aware of the inequality in the BN set-up, with Taibs party PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) controlling the majority of the state seats.
He added that Chan could do nothing to assuage voter discontent if Taib chose to stay in power.
As a result, SUPP became the victim. Had the chief minister issue been settled before the election, SUPP would not have lost heavily.
In view of this, the chief ministers issue needs to be look into seriously by Najib, he said.
Chin also said Najib should not rush to call a snap general election because about 80% of the votes from the Chinese community went to the opposition.
If Taib chooses to remain as chief minister until the next general election, I strongly believe that the BN will lose the predominantly Chinese and mixed areas to the opposition, he said, adding that over in Sabah, the same leadership issue is adversely affecting the Sabah BN coalition.
The Sarawak state election is not something that the BN should be proud of because 80 per cent of the Chinese votes were with the opposition. Should the BN not worry about this?
Chin wants the BN leadership to be brave enough to effect changes in the leadership of the two states.

Political statements
The ! outspoke n LDP leader also alleged that the Sabah BN leadership was not portraying a true picture of its support or the lack of it by the Chinese community in the state.
The state BN leadership is widely seen as having exploited its influence and powers to gain the support of the leaders within the Chinese Chambers of Commerce and religious bodies.
Chin said that certain leaders from the Chinese Chambers of Commerce and religious bodies were now making political statements to the media at the instigation of the government.
The prime minister should re-look into the situation in Sabah and effect changes in the state BN leadership as soon as possible and not wait until the next general election.
We believe Sabah Umno has adequate leaders from its own ranks to take over and lead the party.
Apart from the Chinese, many from the other communities are also unhappy with the current state BN leadership. We all see the problems in Sabah and I hope other BN component parties are brave enough to speak up as well.
In the 2008 general election, Gerakan almost lost all the seats it contested as a result of the political tsunami and today, SUPP was dealt the same fate.
So in Sabah, there is a great urgency to resolve the pressing BN leadership issue before the next general election comes, Chin said.
He pointed out that the Chinese community in Sabah are not anti-BN government. They appreciated the government contributions, especially financial grants allocated to schools and religious bodies, he said.
I believe that issues concerning the bible and illegal immigrants are not the reason for the people to vote for the opposition in Sabah and Sarawak.
The main reason is that they have lost confidence in the BN leadership of the state.
The Chinese dislike certain BN leaders who always raise sensitive issues in Parliament and to the press.
I concur with Umno Uouth chief Khairy Jamaluddins statement that what we are ! facing n ow is the problem of leadership.
The LDP will bring up issues affecting the BN and people of Sabah in the next BN supreme council meeting, Chin said.

Exercises to Make Your Bust Bigger

Dont blame us, Bian tells Dundang

MalaysiaKini - PKR
KUCHING: If Sarawak National Party (SNAP) had agreed to PKRs proposal to contest in four seats, they would have won.
This was the view expressed by Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian in response to SNAP president Edwin Dundangs criticism of the formers political disposition in the runup.
According to Bian, going into last weekends state elections, Sarawak PKR was well prepared and knew the feelings of the people, unlike SNAP.
We are consistent with our stand from the beginning that they (SNAP) were not active on the ground.

We told them we were already well prepared and we knew the feelings of the people.
But they (SNAP) did not want to accept our advice, so they insisted on contesting in 27 seatsthey even wanted to contest in 40 seats.
The outcome or the results of the election is proof of what we have been saying all the while to them, said Bian who is the newly elected BaKelalan assemblyman.
Yesterday Dundang had slammed PKR, blaming the peninsular-based party for its defeats.
Dundang claimed PKR had targeted SNAP as more of a political opponent than the Barisan Nasional.
Given the ferocity of the attack by PKR on SNAP, it was hardly surprising that the party had to fight the election virtually alone.
This shabby treatment by PKR is completely uncalled for, Dundang reportedly said.
SNAP lost its deposits in all 27 seats except in Pakan.
EC must investigate
Responding to Dundang, Bian said it was not right for SNAP to blame PKR for their defeat.
If they were in agreement with us and contested in four seat! s, they could have won. Now, they lost, they blame other people except themselves.
For us, we are not blaming them. We are only blaming money politics and our own weaknesses, said Bian adding that the party was only just begining to get a clearer picture of the extent and spread of money politics in the recent election.
He said said several PKR candidates have made statements regarding rampant money politics.
On Monday in my constituency an auntie revealed she received RM100 before the election and promised another RM200 after election.

She came to our office asking where she could claim or get the balance.
That is very obvious. Now I hear it is happening every where, he said, giving another example of one Tuai Rumah who admitted receiving RM10,000.
We are now challenging the Election Commission (EC) to seriously look into these reports and investigate them, he said, adding that the least the EC should do is listen to the complaints and make sure that it does not happen again.
He also urged the police to investigate the complains.
If there are any offences, if they broke the law then police should take action. Because if this goes on, it will look like there is no democracy and fairness in the whole democratic process, said Bian who is a native customary rights (NCR) land lawyer.
NCR fight
PKR won three seats Ba Kelalan (Bian), Batu Lintang (See Chee How) and Krian (Ali Bijau) in the recent state elections.
The outcome of Senadin (Dr Micheal Yeo) is being heavily protested after Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) won the seat by 68 postal votes.
Meanwhile both Bian and See, PKR state information chief, who are partners in Baru Bian and Associates said they will continue fighting on NCR issues.
We promise the people and our voters that we will pursue cases involving NCR land in the state assembly.
That is our main focus which! we put in our manifesto.
Bian said that one of the things that they will propose to the state government is the setting up of Land Commission.
Although we are standing now on the other side of the assembly, we want to suggest and propose the setting up of the Land Commission, and I hope our proposal will be accepted by the government, he said.
If adopted, the commission will be independent and neutral, he said at a special gathering to celebrate his and Sees electoral victories.

Tough for BN to win 2/3 majority in GE, say analysts...

Barisan Nasional (BN) will have a tough time scoring a two-thirds majority win in the next general election due to the continued snubbing of the ruling coalition by urban voters.

Analysts believe that the recently-concluded Sarawak election will also have a spillover effect on the possible outcome of the upcoming national polls, but differ as to when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will call for it.

While some political pundits believe that Najib will call for elections by year end, others say that the rise in urban vote swing towards Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as well as anti-Taib (Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud) sentiments would be reason enough for Najib to delay national polls until early 2012.

"It is going to be difficult for Barisan Nasional to achieve a two-thirds majority,"
Dr Agus Yusoff told The Malaysian Insider today.

"Urban voters, particularly non-Malays, have voted against BN, as seen in Sarawak... this will have a big implication on BN, the effect of urban discontent towards BN can have a spillover effect in rural areas, given time," said the university lecturer.

BN won 55 out of the 71 seats in the Sarawak assembly, down from 63 it held when the assembly was dissolved last month. The DAP doubled its presence to 12 seats while PKR tripled its representation to three despite contesting 49 seats. An independent also took a seat.

In Election 2008, PR won a total of 82 out of 222 federal seats, with the DAP winning 28 seats, mainly in urban ! areas wh ere there are large communities of Chinese, who decided to throw out BNs lawmakers for the opposition partys representatives.

The developments in the country within the next few months remain crucial, Agus cautioned, as "anything drastic" could change the voting trend, either in favour or against the ruling coalition.

"The economy is important... when the country is stable and its people are comfortable, then the government can feel safe.

"But in Sarawak, Tan Sri Taib Mahmud's insistence in not stepping down has affected Chinese votes for BN, if this remains BN will be affected further," said Agus.

BN retained its two-thirds majority in the Sarawak state assembly or 75 per cent of the seats in the Sarawak legislature. Initial estimates showed that BNs popular vote went down from 62.93 per cent in the 2006 state election to 55.24 per cent in last weekend's polling.

PR, mainly the DAP, mounted a successful anti-Taib campaign, engaging in massive ceramahs attended by thousands of Sarawakians. This in turn resulted in BN losing more urban seats compared to previous state elections.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has also added pressure on Taib, telling him to do the needful, while campaigning in Malay/Melanau areas. Taib has said he will go in two or three years or midway into his new term, but stopped short of providing a firm date.

UKM lecturer Professor Shamsul Adabi Mamat chose to remain optimistic about BN's electoral chances. The analyst feels that the ruling coalition should not be fixated with obtaining a two-thirds win.

Shamsul said a "comfortable majority" win scenario would suffice, where BN wins more than half of the 222 parliamentary seats but would fall short of the desired two-thirds. "A comfortable majority win is enough, two-thirds is not so important," Shamsul told The Malaysian Insider.

He said that as long as BN had the rural votes, which made up the majority of the fed! eral ele ctorate, it should not be too worried about maintaining power. "Yes, two-thirds is the focus, but BN needs to know that even a comfortable majority win is a huge victory.

"We live in interesting times, in a society with different cultures, differences of opinions, so not everyone may agree on everything," he said.

Shamsul believes that judging by BN's performance right now, Najib will call for national polls by the end of this year.

"A general election must be held as soon as possible... BN has the momentum right now with the Sarawak win. I think Najib realises this and would know how to capitalise this.

"My guess is that Najib will call for polls by the end of this year," said Shamsul.- Shazwan Mustafa Kamal

Free flow of beer, threats and cash in Layar

MalaysiaKini - Analysis l Election
KUCHING: Money politics allegedly played a key role in Layar PKR candidate Stanny Embats loss to incumbent and Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Numpang from Barisan Nasional-PBB.
Embat lost to Jabu by 1,916 votes. He obtained 1,787 votes against Jabus 3,703.
According to Embat, on the eve of April 16, bags of cash went into six longhouses.
Jabu allegedly spent a million ringgit to win Layar.

Jabu knew the undercurrents against him were very strong, but he used money to buy them off.
In Merunjau, Saka, Penurin, Ajong, Bungkang and Kerapa (longhouses), I was told by one of the tuai rumah (longhouse chief) that each of headmen was given RM5,000 and each bilek (door) of the longhouse was given RM1,000.
If Jabu swept all the votes in the six longhouses, each of the doors would receive an extra RM1,000, claimed Embat, pointing out that he got zero votes from these longhouses which have about 500 voters.
Embat said that one day before polling, he met a longhouse chief who told him that he and the residents of his longhouse had to vote for Jabu because of the money that he claimed was given to them.
Secondly, they were scared to be found out voting for the opposition as the votes were counted at the polling station.
Jabu would know whether the people of the six longhouses voted for him or not.
This time, the headman told Embat, he and the residents of his longhouse would have to vote for Jabu and next time when Jabu was no longer contesting, then they would vote for him (Embat).

Difficult to beat Jabu
Adding to the money politics, Jabu had to slaughter a pig for every longhouse and provide free flow of beer.
Just imagine how much Jabu had to spend to secure votes from more than 90 longhouses in the Layar constituency.
The amount could come to a million ringgit, he said.
Embat admitted that it was very difficult to beat Jabu even though the voters were angry with him for failed promises, lack of development such as proper roads, water and electricity and the taking away of their land.
When it comes to money, the voters forgot about their anger and their misery, he said.
Jabu has been representing the constituency for more than 37 years.
Jabu secured 3,703 votes. Embat obtained 1,787 votes.
Joe Unggang of Sarawak National Party (SNAP) and an independent candidate Ngumbang @Kibak Datu obtained 183 and 170 votes respectively. Both of them lost their deposits.
The constituency has 8,100 voters, the bulk of which are Iban voters.

MCA, SUPP will want to behave like Umno

MalaysiaKini -Mohd Ariff Sabri Aziz lMCA
The victories of DAP in Sarawak and the MCAs poor showing in the 2008 general election signal the rise of more strident voices and demands by the Chinese Community.
There are two ways to stem the slide.
First, Chinese leaders in MCA and SUPP will ask the Prime Minister, as leader of Barisan Nasional, to allow them more leeway to become MORE Chinese.
Meaning, they want to behave like how Umno behaves as the unmitigated voice of Chinese interests.

The more strident and belligerent the better as a means to regain the Chineseness of their political pronouncements.
Second, as anyone can assume, given the accommodative personality of the PM, he will be seen to giving in to more Chinese demands.
The second one will place the Umno president at odds with the prevailing Umno-ish sentiments.
The first approach will place MCA and SUPP in a confrontational mode with Malay political parties.
Drastic reduction

Health Minister and MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai said MCA acknowledged the strong signal sent by Chinese voters to BNs Chinese-based parties.
Liow further cautioned that the drastic reduction in seats won by SUPP will only increase the perception that the Chinese favour the opposition while other races support BN.
Its not perception Mr Liow its how the Chinese feel.
They are rejecting Chinese political parties which they see as uncle-toming.
Liow also said the prevailing pro-opposition trend among Chinese voters will only lead! to grea ter racial polarisation among Malaysians and undesirable consequences if it is allowed to continue.
What Liow is telling Najib is that BN must now define itself in the context, first and foremost, with how it deals with parties like MCA and SUPP.
Will that signal a new phase in horse trading which will eventually see the Umno president as one who is seen to be extra charitable when it comes to the Chinese but extra cautious when it comes to assuaging Malay interests?
It will be interesting to see how this PM who is excited at seeing BN wins Sarawak but who now has to consider other aspects amenable for him to call for a general election.
Utusan Malaysia for example has given the PM a suggestion which is unmistakably clear.
Liow meanwhile, is also under no illusion to realize where rural, non-Chinese votes are with.

Longing For A Free Mind (Part 7 of 14)

Avoiding Being Entrapped Mentally

[Presented at the Fifth Annual Alif Ba Ta Conference at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, organized by UMNO Club of New York-New Jersey, January 29, 2011.]

Once we have adapted to our new open world, we need to reflect on how was it that we were under the coconut shell in the first place. More importantly, how do we prevent ourselves from being entrapped again? Can we inoculate ourselves against such a terrible fate?

As we contemplate these issues, it is well to be reminded of two major insights of modern neuroscience. One is the remarkable plasticity of the human brain, its almost infinite capacity to adapt and learn. The other, almost as the counterpoint, is the concept of, Use it or lose it! That is, if we do not exercise a particular mental faculty we will lose it, and much sooner than we expect. Thus if we do not exercise our free mind and critical faculty, our mind will inevitably become captive, or un-free and uncritical, blindly accepting everything thrown our way; our coconut shell again engulfing us.

This use it or lose it truism is illustrated by the lazy eye syndrome of childhood. Here we have one eye the lazy one which because of weakness of its muscles or some other problem sends imperfect images to the brain. The brain, to avoid confusion with the images from the good eye, learns to ignore those faulty images. With time the neural pathway from that lazy eye to the brain will atrophy from disuse, and you will get what is called optical blindness of that eye. There is nothing anatomically wrong with the lazy eye, at least as an imaging system, it is just that the brain has effectively ignored it, and now that eye is lost or blind to the brain.

Effective treatment must begin early before the atrophy of this neural pathway and optical blindness sets in. It involves patching the good eye so as to force the brain to decipher the images transmitted by the lazy eye. Meaning, create the ne! ural pat hway, and once that is well established, the patch can then be removed from the good eye.

This use is or lose it principle also applies to human nature. It is this that worries me most about our obsession with special privileges. Whatever noble intentions our forefathers may have had when they included those provisions in our constitution, there is no denying that these privileges have now eroded our competitiveness. As we have not had to use that faculty, we have lost it. Today we are led to believe that we need not learn English or strive hard in order to succeed. Special privileges have ingrained in us the expectation that our government will always provide for us by virtue of the fact that we are Malays.

Special privileges have now degenerated to become an end unto themselves instead of being the means towards an end, of making Malays competitive. We are less concerned with the results and more with the process.

This is the powerfully destructive effect of Ketuanan Melayu. It has hooked and narcotized us. These privileges have blunted our competitiveness, corrupted our community, and degraded our maruah (values). We are fast being reduced to being wards of the state. It is difficult to hold your head high when you are in that state.

Worse, we transmit these destructive values to our children and grandchildren, effectively condemning them to perpetual enslavement, as generations before and following Sobi and Inah in Pramoedyas Djongos dan Babu.

We delude ourselves into thinking that with Ketuanan Melayu we are destined to be Tuans (masters) of Tanah Melayu (Malay Land). We need not strive; it is our destiny, presumably ordained by Allah. Others have no such delusion; they have to work hard. Consequently a just and fair Allah has rewarded them amply, they have now become the de facto (matter of fact) Tuans of Tanah Melayu.

Meanwhile Malays, especially our leaders, are reduced to howling like a fox in ! the midd le of the night proclaiming endlessly that we are still the de jur (by force of law) Tuans of Tanah Melayu. Read the constitution, they howled!

Before non-Malays feel superiorly smug, let me assure them that this weakness is not unique to Malays. It is a universal attribute. In China, those princelings of the Politburo members do not have to work hard either. They too have their future laid out on a red carpet, with guarantees of privatized state enterprises and fat government contracts. Westerners used to generous social safety net of their modern welfare state have lost their ability to compete with eager and hungry competitors from emerging countries. The elaborate safety net of Western societies, crafted with the noblest of intentions, has now degenerated into a comfortable hammock.

A secure safety net emboldens us to strive for new heights; a comfortable hammock tempts us to doze off the afternoon. This is a lesson particularly difficult to learn, especially by our leaders.

There is a bright side, in the form of the other insight from neuroscience: the remarkable plasticity of our brain. The human character too is likewise, ready to adapt to new realities, given the chance. Consider our recent history.

Malays were once known for our political apathy and placidity. We were not even interested in running the affairs of our country; we left that to the colonialists. Our sultans gladly sold out our country and heritage to the British through the Malayan Union agreement in return for pittance in royal allowances and glorified titles of some ancient English order.

Yet under the enlightened leadership of Datuk Onn, we were transformed. We successfully rescinded that obnoxious treaty, despite the sultans having already signed it. Today, politics is in the veins of every Malay, a remarkable cultural transformation in so short of time. Perversely today we are at the other extreme, with politics seducing and infecting many promising Malay talents, thwarting! their p ersonal and professional development.

I will return to Datuk Onn later. For now, suffice to say that although he was a civil servant under the colonialists, it did not stop him from having a free mind. He was anything but menuggu arahan (awaiting orders) from his British superiors.

Contrast Onns free-mindedness to todays leaders. To a person they are nothing but Pak and Mak Turuts (me too leaders). A generation under the mercurial Mahathir, and they have lost their critical faculties. Do not expect greatness from them. Mahathir has long exited the political stage, yet Prime Minister Najib behaves like a poorly-trained lap dog eagerly awaiting its trainers approval.

We might be tempted to blame our leaders, and only them, for our current travails. Certainly, reading the current commentaries one could easily conclude that all our problems are due to the shortcomings of our leaders, in particular Mahathir. We conveniently forget that leaders must have followers.

We deserve the leaders we get; after all we voted them in. However, our responsibilities as followers do not end there. Saddam Hussein did not become the tyrant that he was overnight; nor did Robert Mugabe become obscenely corrupt the day he assumed power. I am certain that both started out with the noblest of intentions. Somewhere along the line their followers allowed them to get away with some minor transgressions; these leaders then became emboldened. The slide towards monstrosity was thus greased.

Today I hear many severe critics of Mahathir and Abdullah Badawi, including some senior UMNO members and respected academics. Where were they when the nation desperately needed some checks and balances?

Pramoedya Ananta Toer, criticizing his own Javanism, observed that it is this unthinking loyalty and blind obedience to a superior that eventually leads to fascism. Pramoedya knew a thing or two about fascism, having been its victim under Suhartos Ode Baru (New Order).

Observe this pictu! re of Mi nister Rais Yatim bowing deeply to kiss Prime Minister Abdullahs hand. Also, notice Abdullahs oblivious smirk and nonchalant gaze directed elsewhere. Is this a display of abiding respect or obsequious loyalty?

Judging from this behavioral display, do you expect Rais to voice his concerns should Abdullah be tempted to do something stupid? This was how Saddam Hussein evolved to be the monster that he was because he had a team full of characters like Rais Yatim, more concerned with showering fealty to their leader than keeping him in check. The body language displayed by Abdullah in this picture bespeaks of, to use the language of the street, Ive got you by your balls!

Regardless of the cultural component, this is not the way to demonstrate respect. Instead, do your job well and you bring credit not only to your superior but also yourself. That is how you show respect for your leader. Another would be not to embarrass him by for example, your less-than-exemplary behaviors in public or private.

Raiss personal behaviors towards his domestic help, now widely reported by the international wire services as the consequence of the Wiki leaks, brought disrepute not only to himself but also Prime Ministers Abdullah and Najib; indeed the whole nation. Rais has since denied the lurid accusation but he has not addressed the maids leaving.

There was another Wiki leak where senior Singapore officials disparaged Malaysian leaders and bragged about having physical evidence implicating Anwar Ibrahim, then Deputy Prime Minister, in his alleged sex crime. In both this and the Rais maid scandal, no one bothered to look at the underlying apparent breaches of national security. How reliable is our national security apparatus such that secret physical evidence concerning a Deputy Prime Minister could land in foreign hands, or the ease with which ministers could be potentially blackmailed? Imagine if those maids had been recruited by intelligence units of unfriendly foreign governments!

So ! far no l eader has shown awareness much less addressed this critical issue. Such is the quality of our current leaders! This is also good point to transition to the next topic, the mind of a future leader.

Sai Baba's condition deteriorates, more police sent to Puttaparthi

Sai Baba's condition deteriorates, more police sent to Puttaparthi
MalaysiaKini - Social
HYDERABAD - Authorities Wednesday sent additional police force to Puttaparthi town in Andhra Pradesh as the condition of spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba deteriorated.

Sai Baba, seen as the incarnation of god by his devotees, continues to be critical, his doctors said Wednesday evening.

His blood pressure is low and the heart beat has slowed down, indicating deterioration in his vital health parameters, the doctors said.

According to the doctors attending on him at the Sathya Sai super speciality hospital, jaundice had affected the functioning of Sai Baba's liver.

The condition of liver and intermittent episodes of low blood pressure are still causing anxiety to the treating doctors, said a medical bulletin.

Hospital director A.N. Safya said Sai Baba continued to be on assisted ventilation to help his lungs and on CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) to assist his kidney's functioning.

The panel of doctors has been reinforced with a government of Andhra Pradesh team under the guidance of the Director of Medical Education, Ravi Raj, an eminent nephrologist, said the statement.

A leading electrophysiology specialist from the US has also joined the team of doctors treating Sai Baba.

The state administration has gone on alert following a deterioration in Sai Baba's condition.

Additional police forces were rushed to Puttaparthi in Anantapur district for deployment in the town, especially around the hospital.

Director General of Police Aravind Rao told reporters in Kurnool that Sai Baba's conditio! n was cr itical.

1Malaysia but not one nation?

MalaysiaKini -by J. D. Lovrenciearl1Malaysia
It is frightening at the rate certain local dailies are spewing out all kinds of editorials and news that are simply racialistic.
Despite the Home Minister's warning one particular media is said to be advocating a 1Melayu, 1Bumi movement.

Some other media are accusing an opposition party of being a chinese race based party with an agenda to overthrow the malays. Is 1Malaysia about Chinese and Malays or is it about Malaysians?
Where is the cracking wip of Malaysia's infamous ISA? Why are all these journalists allowed to sharpen their race-based weapons of destruction through the newspapers?
Let us just pause and look at the scenario with wisdom and objectivity. If a Chinese paper, i.e. the party owned Rocket had published an exactly similar column like that which was carried in the Utusan - except substituting anything 'malay' with 'chinese' what would have been the government's immediate responsible action?
Now citizens are asking why it is not the same equation when it comes to another media that is screaming for race based blood.
No we cannot continue like this and if we persist, we are going to lose all the scrutinizing investors, the jittery tourists and the young, talented minds of Malaysia.
Worse we would have dug ourselves so deep down the gutter that we may never rise again to our past glory.
It is time that citizens demanded from our able leaders to put a final nail to the coffin of any and all racism sentiments. Otherwise we might as w! ell dump 1Malaysia into the murky rivers.
The ball is in the PM's court of course. He has to act decisively, fairly, without fear or favor. He has to be urgent in his stand on the matter so that the nation can rise again to salute his leadership.
Otherwise, Malaysians who are already asking too many questions will act decisively, in a united voice of people power because Malaysians largely do not subscribe to racism.
If the government machinery cannot put a stop to all these racial incitement in the media, then the heads of all religious faiths must convene and stand united over their stand, representing their respective faithful.
Media ethics must overule all other temptations, inclinations and obligations. These are dangerous times and it needs ethically motivated journalism to enable humanity to rise with admiration and not sink with destitute.

We, Christians, "Fools" ?

By May Chee Chook Ying

I always thought that those who single out others as fools are the bigger fools. How can you not be the bigger fool when you brandish the word "amicable" so wantonly and not know what it means? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, "amicable" means "friendly; done in a friendly spirit". Nothing that has happened thus far has been done in a "friendly spirit"! Are you dull of heart and mind that your eyes cannot see and your ears cannot hear?

It is said that the dignity of the person is the most precious possession of an individual and is manifested in the person’s origin and destiny. As a result, the value of one person transcends the entire material world. The goods of the world do not count as much as the good of the person. The dignity of a person is important since the person is created by God in His image and likeness. Thus every violation of the personal dignity of the human being is an offence against the Creator. The human person is always of value as an individual, and as such, demands to be treated as a person and not a means or a thing. The dignity of a person constitutes the foundation of equality of all people among themselves and of participation and solidarity. Dialogue and communion are rooted ultimately in what people are rather than what they have. The dignity of a person is an indestructible property of every human being and is based on the uniqueness and unrepeatability of every person. The most radical and elevating affirmation of the value of every human being was made by the Son of God in His becoming man in the womb of a woman. That - the above - demands the respect, defense and promotion of the rights of every human person. You, who maligned us Christians, a Christian yourself, should know better than to let your mouth run faster than you can think! Has our dignity been compromised lately? I believe so. When people label us fools, it implies that we can’t think for ourselves. If at all you can think and we can’t, how is it that you can’t discern? Did you sleep well last night? I hope not, otherwise, the Cantonese will label you "mo tak kau"! (Ed: "beyond redemption")
If you have been reading your Bible, you would know: "Every sin will be forgiven mankind, even insults to God, however numerous. But whoever slanders the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he carries the guilt of his sin forever." You would have known those fighting for our dignity and right to practise our faith the way we deem fit and proper, are working with the Spirit. "To slander the Holy Spirit is to attribute to a bad spirit a work that is manifestly good." The one who recognizes the truth but not God is better off than the one who says he believes in God but does not recognize the truth. Where do you belong? We become free when we admit that there is nothing sacred in a society which attempts to impose its own standards. As long as people are subject to an order, to laws and authorities which are considered sacred and no one thinks of criticizing, those people are neither free nor true sons and daughters of God. As a Christian myself, I say with conviction that I do not profess a religion that prevents me from seeking the truth and from questioning every area of human restlessness. If that was the case, I believe my religion wouldn’t be the true one. Are you sure we both profess the same religion? Jesus says that those who love the truth recognize those who speak the truth. I’m happy to see that you have many detractors, even among non-Christians. That gives us Christians hope. Though hope is not an easy optimism, those who hope bear trials and persecutions with patience and perseverance. To my fellow Christians, let no one deceive you with empty arguments. Although it appears that at times we are left without an answer, do not despair. We may be persecuted but we are not abandoned, knocked down but not crushed. See, how our fellow Malaysians are rallying behind us. This is when we say, "Malaysia Boleh"! You, staying with half-truths, are surely not in keeping in the spirit of Lent. Last but not least, to my fellow Malaysians of other faiths, a big "Thank You" from the bottom of my heart, for your support. Without you, my brothers and sisters, our fight would appear insurmountable. God bless you all. May Chee Chook Ying resigned as a teacher some eleven years ago in an effort to be a better mother. Eleven years later, she’s still in the dark! Sometimes, because of whats ingrained in her vocabulary, she makes remarks or typecast persons, which her 4 kids deem are racist. She’s trying hard to shake that off, very hard, but believes deep down inside, she is not one. She feels blessed her kids can accuse both their parents of being racists! It is her kids who remind her, now and then, what it means to be Malaysian. She believes a true Malaysia is possible. She has to because it’s possible she may have a grandchild whose name may be Travis Tuppani or Emma Abdullah. She’s going to love them all the same.

Well said, May Chee. What are your thoughts, though, about removing Islam as the ‘official’ religion of the country, perhaps in favour of amendments that embrace multiculturalism? For example, Indonesia’s constitution recognizes six official faiths: Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Is this a direction we should move towards? Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

The new colonialists

The new colonialists
MalaysiaKini -by Toh Leong l Letter
My father supported the Alliance and later Barisan via MCA.To my father, BN represents stability and is a coalition that takes care of all Malaysians. It was a coalition of equal partners. We were all Malaysians, but of different races.

Any good Malaysian would want to see a better Malaysia. We will like to see a political coalition that not only creates stability, but also unity, wealth, prosperity, development, equality and win-win scenarios for all.

Any good Malaysian will want to remove a new set of colonial master if only they are aware. These colonialists are just exploiting the resources in this blessed land. They can easily live any where in the worldlater, considering the amount of wealth that they have accumulated.

Here are some of the reasons why I feel a new set of colonialists is in place.

1. RM888 billion has flowed out of the nation as capital flight when it could have been used to finance thousands of projects. Isn't this hijacking effort the same as what the old colonists who repatriate funds back home?

2. Contracts are given away without tender to cronies connected to colonial master. At the least, in the old colonial days, public contracts are given to the so called PWD.

3. Public lands are transferred to the cronies and connected for a song. Many plantations in Malaysiabelong to old colonial master via this route.

4. The IPP's are indirectly taxingeveryone, Malays, Chinese,! Indians and others by the terms in their agreements. This is the sort of agreement that was signed by the colonial master of the past and by the gomen of the present.

5. Agreements signed with the highway and water concessionaires guarantee profits and ever increasing rates. Only a colonial master will sign such an equal agreement on behalf of the rakyat.

6. The old colonial master introduced ISA, Sedition Actandmany oppressive laws in the nation. The present colonial master not only enhance those acts, butadded new ones such PPPA, OSA, etc. Why can't we let new ideas and opinions flow so that together we can build a better nation?

7. Under the past colonial masters, we have Austins, Minors, Oxford from one nation only. Today, we have protons and peroduas. To protect this industry forever, the prices of other cars are raised through taxes and other duties.

8. We were really a cosmopolitan nation where the races live in harmony, during TAR's era.Good relations are screwed up because the new colonialpower controlling us need to create an imaginary enemy. Divide and rule is strategy of a colonial master, whether old or new. Isn't ketuanan Melayu a divide and rule strategy?

9. Only certain people can get AP's to buy cars of a certain category. The monopoly enables themto get make billions. Even the old colonial masters didn't think of this lobang.

10. You encounter hundreds of obstacles when you are in business, but it can be solved under the counter. At least the oldcolonial master will formulate some rules and policies and stick to it. Now, we have the rule of man, rather than the rule of law.

11. Many murders and homicides are not solved. There are sandiwara just like what the American colonialist did in foreign soil. Remember how the Americans pretended that there weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Wasn't it pure sandiwara.

12. As per colonial power, many projects were and are going to be bulldozed through. Proton, Petronas twin tower! s, Waris an Merdekatower, Asia Rare Earth in Bukit Merah, Lynas radioactive thoriumin Kuantan, BakunDam in sarawakare just a few in my mind.

13. Thepolice, judiciary, civil service and other institutions of governance appears to be undercertain political influence andcontrol. The old colonial master at least practices certain amount of separation of powers. Of course, they can easily change the laws to suit themselves.

Mind you, I am not blaming the Malays, but a very small elite groupof society that isin political control. I called them colonialists because they are exploiting the majority, irrespective of race, as exactly as the old colonial master.

Email 1Malaysia -Najib dan Nazir - I tolong you,you tolong I....

Pakatan wants puppet-masters behind Datuk T to be probed as well

MalaysiaKini - Datuk T
Pakatan Rakyat leaders want the police to act on recent hints that they may charge the Datuk T trio for distributing pornigraphic material, accusing the Inspector General of Police Ismail Omar of unprofessional conduct and trying to smear Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in the runup to last weekend's Sarawak state elctions.
They also want the police to conduct a full-scale probe on who were the master-minds behind the elaborate scam that involved senior editors of the goverment-controlled mainstream media.

"The Omega watch is to create an impression that Anwar had done something wrong. There are no legal grounds at all to probe Anwar. The investigation is irrelevant and they just made the video for the sake of trying to create an impression of Anwar's involvement. The only issue here is to charge the trio," PAS MP for Kuala Krai Hatta Ramli told MalaysiaKini.
The video showing a man who resembles Anwar having sex with a prostitute had shaken the nation earlier this month. The video emerged out of the blue and the three men calling themselves the Datuk T trio said they 'discovered' it and wanted to expose Anwar's promiscuity. They screened the tape to journalists and select PKR leaders in a bid to discredit Anwar, who has denied any involvement in the video.
The man looks like Anwar but when I looked at the man's body and physique, I am convinced the man is definitely not him, Anwar's wife and PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told a dinner audience in Perak on Tuesday night.
Gutter politics

!
Nevertheless, despite the obvious gutter politicking, the scam was exposed when PKR investigators found the trio were Umno members, all with links to the top Umno elite especially Prime Minister Najib Razak and former premier Mahathir Mohamad.
The three men are former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Shazryl Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Shuaib Lazim. In the past few days, they have offered to take the blame for the tape, saying that no one else should be incriminated.
"That they are hiding the truth and covering for the ruling elite is obvious. Look at the timing, one by one they are coming out to take the fall. It is very coincidental," PKR vice president Tian Chua told MalaysiaKini.
Indeed, the finger has been pointed at PM Najib - Anwar's arch rival. Political watchers believe the Umno elite wanted to use the tape to discredit Anwar for the Sarawak election that was held on April 16. And then to continue the pressure by launching a Royal Commission of Inquiry so as to keep the public reminded about the scandal during the runup to the General Election.
Don't blame anyone but us
But the plan backfired badly with Malaysians repulsed by the obvious unfairness and conspiracy against Anwar and his Pakatan Rakyat coalition. It also failed to dent Anwar's popularity as the crowds continued to flock to his rallies In Sarawak, where his party won three new seats.
The BN lost 15 seats although it managed to retain the Sarawak state government. Because of the weaker than expected results, Najib is seen deferring the GE till next year, pundits have said.
As if on cue, the police on Monday and Tuesday made statements to the effect that there was no reason to probe Anwar and that they may charge the three men for distributing pornographic material.
This was in sharp contrast to the IGP, who with days to go to the Saturday balloting, had said the identity of the man in the tap! e had be en discovered and they were now trying to verify the ownership of the Omega watch. The Datuk T trio had said Anwar left the watch behind at the hotel room where the video was shot.
"It is an obvious case of the police playing politics. They simply create a sea of doubts before the elections so that people will say that Anwar is involved in the video. We do not want any unprofessional intervention in this case," Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah told MalaysiaKini.

Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah: Loteri UMNO 1951 (Siaran Ulangan)

Barulah kita tahu siapa sebenarnya UMNO. Telunjuk lurus, kelingking berkait.

Kat luar cakap nak memperjuangkan Islam tapi sejak penubuhan mereka lagi kuat makan duit haram.

BONGKAR !!! UMNO HALALKAN JUDI DENGAN NAMA KEBAJIKAN?
In Belit BN Belit UMNO, Islam Hadhari on March 3, 2008 at 9:51 am

Maklumlah, dah nama kerajaang perpaduang, kenalah jaga hati kawan-kawan)
