Datuk Shazryl Eskay wanted revenge on Anwar....

A retired policeman said today that Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah(left) had told him that he would bring down Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before the video allegedly showing the opposition leader having sex with a Chinese prostitute surfaced on Monday.

Mohamad Mahti Abdul Rahim, who was the late Tan Sri Megat Junid Megat Ayubs bodyguard, said that Shazryl had been angry with the Permatang Pauh MP for not wanting to testify in a civil suit he had filed.

After that he started talking angrily about Anwar. He began to talk bad about him, saying I will bring down Datuk Seri Anwar, whatever it takes, he said.

Mohamad Mahti himself had agreed to be a witness in the suit where Shazryl is claiming he was owed a RM20 million commission for securing the deal for the RM460 million crooked bridge between Singapore and Johor. He said that when he had testified in the case on March 8, Shazryl had begun badmouthing Anwar when court was in recess and continued to do so after that day. Whether this tape is real or not I dont know, but he wanted to bring down Anwar Ibrahim. He said Anwar stole money from him, he said.

Former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik had admitted on Wednesday that Shazryl, Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim and himself were collectively the mysterious Datuk T behind the 21-minute sex video that was screened on Monday. Mohamad Mahti said today that Shazryl had also met him before last weekend to ask for help to secure former special action unit (UTK) officers, ostensibly for protection when he screened the video.

He asked me to help him find four former UTK officers. When he said it was to attack Datuk Seri Anwar, I told him I didnt want to kn! ow anyth ing at all, he said.

Mohamad Mahti, who had worked for the former domestic trade and consumer affairs for 18 years, said that he did not want to be involved despite having known Shazryl since 1996. However, he said he followed Shazryl to Shuibs home where he found out that the Perkasa man was an advisor at Shazryls fertiliser factory and that he would soon be made chairman.

There, Eskay started saying he was doing this for No. 1, he said, adding that Shuib seemed hesitant to help Shazryl. I dont know who it is and I did not ask him who he meant, Mohamad Mahti said when asked if Shazryl was referring to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who Anwar has accused of being involved in the release of the video.

But now that all these accusations have happened, I feel I need to reveal the truth. Datuk SK is for Si Kitol, he said, referring to the character in Malay history who betrayed the Sultan of Malacca to the Portuguese for his own benefit.

Mohamad Mahti, 53(right), said that he first met Shazryl when the latter was a physiotherapist for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in the 1990s.

Datuk Megat had a muscle tear and Shazryl was recommended to me, so I introduced him to Datuk Megat, he explained. But when Datuk Megat had cancer and even when he passed away, Eskay never once visited him, he said.

He said that this was also how Shazryl was introduced to then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar, as his services was also recommended to them.

Mohamed Mahti said that Shazryl had also met him on January 17 and told him he now operated five fertiliser factories in Thailand. He said that Shazryl had become close to Abdul Rahim because he was the chairman of the Rubber Indu! stry Sma llholders Development Authority (RISDA) and Shuib because he was the father-in-law of Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

He was also trying to get close to Felcra chairman Datuk Tajuddin Rahman so that he can secure deals to sell the fertiliser, he said. He said he was given RM5,000 as pocket money commission to arrange a meeting with the Pasir Salak MP.

Mohamad Mahti said that a month later, Shazryl gave him a handwritten note allegedly written by Shazryl, promising various officers, including Tajuddin, a cut of every tonne of fertiliser sold via Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority. I felt that this was bribery so I SMSed Tajuddin to forget the whole thing, he said while showing reporters the alleged note written in red ink.

The former cop said that one of Anwars bodyguards, named Mokhtar, had called him earlier this week to ask why Shazryl was doing this as he had just brought his whole family to visit the PKR de facto leader a few weeks ago.

I told him I knew nothing about the video until after it was released this week. Eskay is a liar. Everything he has said is a lie, he told reporters at his goat farm here this afternoon. I am available if the police or even the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission want to question me. If Eskay wants to sue me, go ahead. I have no worries, he said.

Mohamad Mahti added that Shazryl said he had helped Anwar a lot and brought the former deputy prime minister to Singapore to do a DNA test to disprove allegations in the late 1990s that he was the father of PKR deputy president Azmin Alis daughter. He said that Shazryl also claimed to have helped Anwar send controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin to the UK when he was recently wanted for criminal defamation and sedition.

He added that he was not being asked by anyone to make these claims, pointing out that if I was paid, we would hold the press conference in an air-conditioned hotel.

Sh! azryl an d Abdul Rahim have been detained by police earlier today in relation to the sex video. Anwar has denied that he is the man in the video, claiming that it is a political attack by Barisan Nasional. The black-and-white video was allegedly taken on February 21 at a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur. It begins with footage showing a man the trio claim to be Anwar, a woman with East Asian features and another unidentified man in the room. The second part, recorded from four slightly different angles, showed the man receiving oral sex from the woman and then having sexual intercourse with her in several positions.

Authenticity of clip not the problem

I welcome the calls that the pornographic clip incriminating Anwar Ibrahim be investigated by an independent panel. However, I worry that certain parties with vested interests are now trying to twist the whole thing by insisting on the clip's authenticity.

We all know that the authenticity of the clip is not the problem. Our concern is whether the actor of the video is indeed Anwar as alleged.Once the identity of the people in the clip has been established, only then should an investigation to verify its authenticity be carried out.

The video clip may be authentic without any doctoring done, but what if the actor is not Anwar?

If it is first established that it is Anwar as claimed (based on expert, forensic and scientific proofs coupled by alibis), then the next step should be to ascertain whether the clip is authentic, i.e., whether it has been tampered with or doctored.

If it is however proven that the person is not Anwar and only a look-alike, then there is no need to ascertain the clip's authenticity, The culprits responsible for distributing it should then be arrested and charged not only for possession of pornography but also for criminal intimidation.

Failing to go through these steps will only allow Malaysia's day-to-day conversations to be perpetually about sex and sodomy. What a shame.

Fed up with fixation on Anwar's anatomy

Im not really a political fan but seriously, you guys have got to stop writing about irrelevant stories. People want to read what goes on in the country and how we can improve it not being fixated by what goes on in other peoples backsides. Seriously, this is such a joke, the tabloids have been filled with Anwars ass than real news.

What is wrong with you people? Yes, Im pointing my fingers at you, Malaysian government. Yes, YOU. Did you honestly think that by bribing the media to control what should be published or not could solve this problem? You thought wrong, mister.

Sooner or later, people will start to realise what a bunch of morons are controlling the country. I understand that I have not lived there long enough to experience the whole Malaysian lifestyle but even an individual in the right mind can see that Enough is enough!

Has he not suffered enough? Did you guys ever think about his wife, his children, his whole entire generation that will live in an infamous shadow if you degrade this man. Wait. You havent.

Im writing behalf of the new generations here, pleading that they get this case over with. We want to see a new regime formed for us where bribery is abolished, not someones ass. I mean it.

There are far more relevant stories to print in the tabloids. For example, like the growing discontent in the Middle Eastern countries fighting for their rights to get out from their political and social turmoil. They are making a change to the regime, shouldnt we?

Video sex ori tapi pelakon utama tak ori....

No plans to use indelible ink

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz said today that the government has no plans to introduce indelible ink for elections.

He said that the usage of the ink may infringe the constitutional right of an individual.

“What if a registered voter, upon arriving at the polling station, says he does not want his hand to be tainted by the ink? Do we stop him from voting?”asked Nazri.

He added that this was the reason the Elections Commission (EC) did not want to use the ink.

In addition, he said, the ink was normally used in countries where they do not register their voters or the area is densely populated.

“In India, for example, one parliamentary constituency may have millions of voters. So the indelible ink is useful to them.

“But here we do not have such issues. Besides, we register our voters so we can minimise the risk of someone voting twice,” he said.

However, Nazri, who is also Padang Rengas MP, said the EC was looking into other alternatives to improve the electoral system.

“We are looking into a biometric system but it is still under discussion,” he said.

For the 2008 general election, the EC had initially agreed to use indelible ink but later cancelled it, citing public order and security issues.

"Datuk T " a Code-name for Datuk Trio " Outed Themselves in a Press Conference

Malaysians Unplugged Uncensored

Former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik, today ADMITTED that he is one of the three persons behind the sex tape scandal.

The mystery of a 'Datuk T' - the person who had shown the video to journalists on Monday - was also revealed as a code name for 'Datuk Trio', comprising :
  1. Rahim Thamby Chik,

  2. Former honorary Thai consul Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and

  3. PERKASA treasurer-general and ex-senator Shuib Lazim.
The 20-minute sex tape showed a man having sex with a woman in a hotel room.

Shazryl , who was also present at the hastily arranged press conference in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon, said he was "100 percent" sure that it was Anwar in the tape.

"Because I was also in the tape," he said, refusing to answer other questions about his role in the tape as well as his presence in the hotel where the alleged sex act take place.

According to those who have watched the clip, there were initially two men at the beginning of the video.

He also said that he was a friend of Anwar, but he said that he felt "used by Anwar for far too long".

Shazryl also said that he had intially went to Shuib and Rahim - whom he described as long-time friends - after stumbling across the video recording and had asked the former CM to find a "safe place" to screen it.

"When Shazryl found out about the video, we thought that the rakyat and especially the media should know about the man who wants to become prime minister," add Rahim, who sat beside Shazryl.

"They told me to find a secure place, so I suggested Carcosa Seri Negara, because it's safe and a little secluded."

Both Rahim and Shazryl Eskay refused to answer further questions pertaining to the sex video, saying that the police are already investigating the matter.

Rahim also accused PKR MP for Sungai Petani Johari Abdul of demanding a pay-off.

Johari, who had called a press conference earlier today, had revealed the identity of those involved in the sex tape scandal.

According to Rahim, Johari had asked for RM100,000 as "duit pelincir" ('grease money') and RM1 million to defect to BN.

Why trio not arrested?

Citing Section 292 of the Penal Code, Lim Kit Siang said it is an offence to publicly exhibit "any obscene or pornographic material” for which it is liable to a jail term of three years.

Section 5(1) of the Film Censorship Act 2002, meanwhile, stipulates a fine of up to RM50,000, five years' jail, or both, for the same offence.

"Do the trio enjoy immunity and impunity for breaches of the law and actions which have brought world-wide shame to the nation?" asked the Ipoh Timor parliamentarian.

PSM reps declare assets

PETALING JAYA: Four Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM) leaders serving in public office have declared their assets and called on Pakatan Rakyat MPs, state assemblymen and town councillors to do the same.

The four—Sungai Siput MP Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, Kota Damansara assemblyman Nasir Hashim, Shah Alam councillor A Sivarajan and Kajang councillor S Arutchelvan—spoke at a town meeting yesterday and handed out statutory declarations listing their salaries and assets such as cars and houses.

“The exercise of elected reps giving statutory declarations on their wealth is a very important practice,” Arutchelvan told reporters covering the event at the MBPJ hall in Section 7 here.

“We’re trying to put the message across that this is not our money. It is people’s money. And we have to be responsible and accountable.”

Public officials from PSM have been declaring their assets every year since the 2008 general election.

Sivarajan said he hoped public officials from the Pakatan Rakyat parties would follow suit.

“Every time we do these declarations, people question the Pakatan MPs, ‘PSM did this. Why don’t you do this?’

“I think that kind of pressure will push them to do it. Hopefully, they will do it one day.”

The Sungai Siput MP chimed in with his sentiments, saying public officials should be required to declare their assets every year.

“Once you become an assemblyman or an MP, you must every year reveal the assets of yourself, your wife and your immediate family,” Jeyakumar said.

He bemoaned the lack of institutional checks and balances in Malaysia’s political system.

“We need institutional safeguards that go towards ensuring transparency,” he said.

“Those things will keep your leaders in check. Otherwise, the temptation is too strong. Imagine controlling the federal budget, which is RM210 billion this year.”

Jeyakumar added that a new federal government would suffer from the same temptations as the current one if it did not put in place safeguards such as mandatory asset declarations.

“We think it can be done,” he said. “The state or federal government can enact a law on this.”

Anwar: Umno's fingerprints on sex clip

PKR has called for PM Najib to respond to claims that the 'Datuk T' trio had met with him.

Arnold Face

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik's admitted involvement in the sex tape used against him was evidence of Umno's involvement in the entire affair.

NONEHe said Rahim appears to be taking revenge for his departure from politics back in 1994.

"This showed the high level conspiracy of Umno's involvement in this," Anwar told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur court complex today.

"I do not know how the home minister (Hishammuddin Hussein) can deny this... One of their (party) members is involved and also Perkasa," he said in reference to the Malay rights group.

Yesterday, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had threatened to take legal action against Anwar for alleging that he and the police were involved in the sex tape.

azlanAnwar argued that his comments were based on the fact that those who released the video - Rahim, businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim, collectively known as 'Datuk T' - were still at large.

"In fact, I am told they are now being protected (by the authorities or special branch)," Anwar claimed, asking why the authorities were according such treatment to persons who had confessed to being behind the screening of a pornographic video to selected members of the press.

He said the authorities take action against those they claim spread pornographic material, but act otherwise when it concerns Umno leaders.

Anwar said since the involvement of the three had surfaced, the party's case for Umno's involvement has only been strengthened.

"We had made the allegation from day one, that Umno was involved, but they vehemently deny (it). And now, there is evidence.

"Now that they have admitted, the police have not acted.

“This is surprising. (This is the) first case in the country (where there's a) clear case of criminal intimidation by displaying of pornographic material, (and) which is fully endorsed by the PM (Najib Abdul Razak), his lovely wife Rosmah (Mansor) and, of course, Home Affairs Minister Hishammuddin Hussein."

'I was just the messenger for Dr M'

Questioned whether the 'Datuk T' trio, especially Rahim, were taking revenge on him for a past incident, Anwar said: “There is no basis to popularise this fake video and make this attack. They were initially anonymous, and now have surfaced.”

mahathir book launch memoirs 080311Rahim was compelled to quit politics including the post of Umno Youth chief following allegations that he had committed statutory rape (changed to raping an underage girl).

The then attorney-general, the late Mohtar Abdullah, did not press any charges against Rahim.

It had been speculated that Anwar played a role compelling Rahim to quit politics. Denying this today, he deflected the blame to then-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (above).

"I was merely conveying Dr Mahathir message (for Rahim to resign). I do not know if Mahathir may suffer from selective amnesia (over the matter)," he said.

'Najib must clarify role'

In a statement, meanwhile, PKR called for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to respond to claims that the 'Datuk T' trio had met with him yesterday in his office at Parliament to discuss the video scandal.

NONE"Keadilan has been informed that the prime minister chaired a meeting of Umno's political bureau yesterday afternoon, and that the prime minister was in fact at the Parliament building during the time the trio were present," said the statement signed by the party's communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

"This raises serious questions as to what extent government leaders are involved in the making and screening of the sex video, clearly violating the laws.

"The refusal of the government to take swift and firm action against all those behind (the scandal) strengthens public perception that government leaders are involved in this conspiracy, not unlike the conspiracy of 1998," said Nik Nazmi in reference to the sodomy and corruption charges filed against Anwar more than a decade ago.

"To clear his name and (that of) Umno, the prime minister must state what he discussed with the three persons behind the sex video that is currently embarrassing Malaysia."

PKR also said Eskay's admission yesterday that he was one of two men in the video "confirms the theory that the man seen early on in the video clip arranging some items in the room and suspected of being responsible for setting up the recording equipment was Eskay himself."

NONEThis falls in line with the question raised by PKR's Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul (far right in photo) yesterday, said PKR, as to whether the man in the video knew the sex acts were to be recorded as he was seen along with the man said to have been preparing the recording equipment.

Eskay has also raised serious doubts about his earlier claim on the day the video was screened that he was allegedly asked by Anwar to recover a watch that was left in the room where the sex acts took place.

"It is clear that (Eskay's statement) was a lie, because he himself has admitted that he was involved and suspected of being the one who had fixed the recording equpment in place.

"His claim that he discovered the video is a lie that defies logic."

Dismissing Nik Nazmi's statement outright, Umno Youth chief and a member of Umno's political bureau Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the bureau's fortnightly meeting was held on Monday in Putrajaya and not at Parliament yesterday as alleged.

"Please don't spread lies," the Rembau parliamentarian tweeted this afternoon.

"Chegubard, the porn star is Mamak !"

Chegubard shown clip, insists man not Anwar

Badrul Hisham Shaharin says he has seen the video, and from the man's movements, could tell it was not Anwar.

Former PKR central committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin denied that the man in the sex video shown to the media on Monday at Carcosa Seri Negara, was PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

"When I saw the video, from that man's gerak-geri (movements) I knew it definitely wasn't Anwar," said Badrul Hisham, widely known as Chegubard, in a press conference today at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.

"With just a glance, one might think it's him but those close to him will know it's not," added Badrul, who is married to Anwar's niece.

NONEChegubard said he received a call late Monday evening from businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, offering him a view of the sex video.
"I was told to meet him in front of Institute Jantung Negara by 7.45pm with few friends, but later on he said only me and another person would be allowed to watch it," he said.

Chegubard and a close friend from Umno then followed Eskay to Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

"When we arrived, we were checked thoroughly by security and had to surrender our mobile phones, too."

Eskay then introduced him to former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik and an elderly man, known only as Tengku Sulaiman.

Chegubard said initially, Eskay wanted him to be the 'middleman' to give a copy to PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and to pressure her husband, Anwar and her, to step down from the political arena.

But Eskay changed his mind and decided he wanted to deliver the video to Wan Azizah personally.

"We watched the sex video together, twice. While watching the sex video I heard Rahim exclaimed 'astaghfirullah' (May Allah forgive us) a couple of times. My impression was that it was his first time viewing the video."

Chegubard added that Rahim confessed that was the first time he was viewing the tape, as Rahim just came back from a family holiday.

"How can he say he is part of the Dato T-trio when last Monday he told me it was his first time watching it?"

Asked to reveal who was his Umno friend who also watched the sex video, Chegubard refused to reveal his identity as that was up to the person.

"But he agrees with me that the man in the sex video is not Anwar."

Asked whether would there be a push for a RCI on this matter, his reply was that it was less of a question of having a RCI, but more of 'special treatment' for the trio.

Enough is enough, there should not be any favouritism in handling such matters," he said, adding that it is about time Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak stepped in and settled this issue.

Najib’s 'Talented, Wise And Thoughtful' cabinet

Najib’s 'Talented, Wise And Thoughtful' cabinet

Just like Sodomy II, this latest sex video is about distraction. The grainy sex video showed a man performing sexual acts with a woman. The idea was to identify the man as Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and hence discredit him. The main aim behind this video was to distract Malaysians from issues that affect the nation. Another was to divert the attention of Sarawakians from concentrating on the problems that will influence the state elections.

Malaysia is in deep trouble and after 53 years, BN has milked the country dry and divided a once harmonious nation.

The three Umno dim-wits who fabricated lies was never a good idea. But then, who would expect Umno to win the hearts and minds of the people using intellect?

People who are blinded by power can never see where they have gone wrong. Najib who is so fussy over image, seems to be blinded by his own greed and self-importance. Of only he could see who forms his Cabinet, heads the GLCs or Umno institutions, past and present.

The ringleader of this latest sex video is Rahim Tamby Chik. He is the disgraced, former Chief minister of Malacca who allegedly raped a minor and then had to resign. The underage girl’s grandmother sought a DAP MP’s help to bring Rahim Thamby to trial. That just shows how much trust ordinary Malays have in the elected Umno Malays. The DAP MP was himself thrown into prison. Did any of the other Umno Malays come to the defense of the girl?

Perhaps, the following questions should be incorporated in the history curriculum at school.

Who was the onetime UMNO deputy home affairs minister, who was allegedly implicated in the murder of a young woman? He is just like a current serving minister who is allegedly accused of rape. The widespread gossip connecting this onetime Umno deputy home affairs minister with the murder didn't do his political career any harm. He was ultimately named Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister in the late 90s although he lost his parliamentary seat two years later and retired from politics.

Who was the Chief Minister who had an affair with a girl who eventually gave birth to an illegitimate child? He also kept an under-aged mistress at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur. In 2003, he was also rumored to be involved with the death of another attractive young woman was found murdered in an apartment in a Kuala Lumpur suburb. Although another individual was arrested and charged with the murder, he was later declared not guilty and no one else was ever charged. The inspector general of police, Mohd Bakri Omar, classified the case under Malaysia's Official Secrets Act and no details were ever released.

Who was the non-politician but Umno mouthpiece who had an affair with a young girl while his wife lay paralysed in bed?

Who was the Chief Minister who eloped to Thailand to secretly marry his second wife?

Who is the Federal Minister who was caught with a female artiste in a Port Dickson hotel?

Who is the Federal Minister whose brother was arrested for drug trafficking?

Which Federal Minister had an affair with someone else’s wife and this eventually resulted in a broken marriage?

Which religious leader had an illicit affair and who now holds a prominent position in a very important government religious body?

Which Chief Minister had an affair with his sister-in-law who then gave birth to an illegitimate child?

Who is the son of the prominent politician who was implicated in the 2007 death of a beautiful Indian actress? The woman's body was cremated almost immediately after her death.

Who is the minister who was implicated in Malaysia’ own deep throat sexploits and would put Emmanuel to shame?

Who is the current serving cabinet minister who is accused of raping his maid?

Who is the current MP who betrayed his first wife by marrying a young starlet? His second marriage was not blessed by a recognized person of the court official and he himself is reknowned for using gutter langauge in the Dewan Rakyat ?

Which Malaysian Ambassador has been guilty of sexually exploiting women?

With ministers like these in Najib’s Sex Cabinet line-up, how could the rakyat trust the government, its courts, the police and its ministers?

Very few of the privileged elite who make up the politically powerful and rich in Malaysia ever get punished.

Now we know why BN maintains its iron grip on Malaysians so that they can continue plundering the country and robbing its rakyat. That is what BN fears most – Anwar and Pakatan. - Malaysia Chronicle

Interlok: Text and context

by KJ John,

I am not a formal student of the philosophy of science; the study and appreciation of the field of epistemology. But I had a very good teacher from whom I learned some key concepts and ideas from this field.

The most important principle I learned from this teacher, is that we cannot separate text from context, or mix up the two. Therefore, today I say categorically: there is never text without a context.

NONEWhy this beginning for my next column? The core issue I want to discuss in this column is the 'Interlok' mouth-wagging war that has been going on; on all sides.

Four local literature laureates have given their voice to state that no editing of this literary work should be entertained.
I agree. My reasons are given below.

Now, to practice what I preach, first the context of the text. What then are the real knowledge domains related to the 'Interlok' issue?
First is literature. Second is language, and the third is education.
Can we get confused by all these three domains and related concepts; if we are not clear about them? Surely.
Literature (from Latin litterae (plural); letter) is the art of written works, and is not bound to published sources (although, under circumstances they can be exempt). Literally translated, the word literature means "acquaintance with letters" (as in "arts and letters"). The two most basic written literary categories are fiction and non fiction.
Language may refer either to the specifically human capacity for acquiring and using complex systems of communication, or to a specific instance of such a system of complex communication. The scientific study of language in any of its senses is called linguistics.
Education in the largest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual.
In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another.
Etymologically, the word education is derived from educare (Latin) "bring up", which is related to educere "bring out", "bring forth what is within", "bring out potential" and ducere, "to lead".

With the above as the three domains contexts, let us review the text of our issue or concern.
Socio-political discourse
The 'Interlok' issue, like most things Malaysian, is now convoluted into a socio-political discourse, much like the argument between Indonesia and Malaysia whether the song 'Terang Bulan,' which is now our national anthem, is originally Malaysian or Indonesian or merely Melayu!
Who really cares? I think the Good Lord inspired some artist to write it and we are not even paying any royalty for it, as far as I know!
Moreover, the Melayus come from the Melayu River in Indonesia and is only one of the 200 plus ethnic groups in that great nation and our neighbour!
Therefore, my definition of our context of the issue is that we need to separate and segregate the key issues and topics from the fused nature of Asian thinking!
Fred W Riggs called for such movement from fused to the differentiated ways of rationally breaking down the core issues to their component parts, so we develop as a nation.
In his theory, we all start as a fused agrarian society and then slowly 'develop' to become a diffracted and differentiated industrial society.
While his views are not exact social science, his perspective is valid for our review and consideration.
Therefore, if we diffract the issue like when you use a prism to break light into colours, the core issues in our 'Interlok' text are language, literature and education. Sorry, but the so-called national unity dimension is a totally non-starter, except maybe for the author himself; by his intentionality for his piece of art.
'Interlok' is a pure fictional piece of Malay literature of a Malayan variety and quality. One must understand Malay culture and values to truly appreciate it, I believe.
Neither was the author seeking to win any global awards either! But, we must be proud of our literature in the Malay language and we should never ask the author to change or edit his words. Even as a columnist, I do not allow Malaysiakini to edit out my words and meaning!
Nuances more important
Moreover, while any form of literature can be taught in the Malay Language class, surely learning the language and its nuances are more important than "teaching about how to achieve a united or fixed mental model of external reality," and what others say about life and living!
Learning about others and their worldviews is a life-long mission and process. Finally also, 'Interlok' is both literature and language, but most importantly these must surely exist to educate all of us, and never to make us more stupid or more ignorant.
Let us therefore simply put text back in context; obviously 'Interlok' is not a good and solidly acceptable example of literature for Form Five students; because of unresolved sensitivities in our society.
As Shamsul AB would say it, "it will merely keep tongues wagging!" Therefore, let us not insult the author and ask him to moderate the language of what he really and truly meant in its art and craft form!
He already wrote what he meant!
The current book is no more his original work, but a version owned and distributed by Dewan Bahasa for yet other motives.
Therefore, let us simply cut the crap. The policy makers failed in choosing a good and usable book, within the context of post March 8th Malaysia.
Simply do not use the book any more although we should encourage all Malaysians to read it!
Neither is this a Ketuanan Melayu issue but it's really about how to teach 17 year olds the Malay language and teach them to love the language and learn to use it well in life; full of its finer nuances!
May God give our leaders wisdom to know the difference between knowledge and ignorance! That too is an education!

Kula, Muhyiddin trade barbs over Interlok

The DAP leader's grading of DPM's reply as 'low standard' causes a commotion in the dewan

KUALA LUMPUR: Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran traded barbs with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over the Interlok controversy, ranking the latter’s reply as ‘low standard’

This occured when Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, insisted that the novel won’t be withdrawn by the government and will continue to be used in the secondary school sylllabus.

Muhyiddin claimed that the independent panel had agreed to the proposed amendments, one of which is to remove the word ‘pariah’, a word deemed insensitive to the Tamil community.

Kulasegaran, who is also DAP vice-chairman accused Muhyiddin of taking a simplistic solution to the problem.

“Your answer was very low in standard,” said Kulasegaran which caused an uproar among several backbenchers.

Muhyiddin shot back, saying Kulasegaran did not understand his reply as even the MIC had agreed to the amendments.

“The majority of the Indians want the book to be out from schools,” said Kulasegaran, and called MIC a party without backbone for being in cahoots with Muhyiddin over the matter.

The dewan became heated up when Sri Gading MP Mohamad Aziz accused Kulasegaran of trying to be a hero and several backbenchers joined in the fray.

It took Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee nearly 10 minutes before he could control Kulasegaran from continuing with his verbal tirade.

“Muhyiddin is ignoring the Indian community’s demand to remove the novel from schools to protect the ‘little Napoleans’ in his ministry,” he said at in a press conference later.

“And what is most shocking is the MIC keeping mum about it. It tells Tamil dailies that it wants the book to be removed but it supports Muhyiddin’s stand,” said Kulasegaran.

He said Pakatan Rakyat wanted the book to be removed as a textbook in the literature component of the Bahasa Malaysia subject for Form Five students as it smacks of racism.

Teluk Intan MP M Manoharan reminded the government that the controversial novel even degraded the Malays.

“Page 39 of the book says Malays need not go to school as religious studies were sufficient for them to earn a living.

“This can cause problems when students who are naïve use this to tease the Malays,” he said.

Racist and biased UMNO Court of Appeal led by C.J Tun Zaki Tun Azmi clears Malay-sian police murderers of G. Francis Udayappan at Malay-sian police station – killing fields of Indians. See gruesome photos below.

Francis Udayappan was murdered at the Brickfields police station and thrown into the Klang River behind that very same police station.

P. Uthayakumar, S. Jayathas and ten others were arrested for holding a peaceful assembly and carrying a mock coffin to the Brickfields police station in April 2005.

Francis’ body was kept at the P.J University Hospital for nearly 2 years. Francis head with injuries was destroyed and only parts of the skull and a highly decomposed flesh and bones were handed over to his mother Sara Lily and that too about 2 years later.

MALAYSIA: A Country Run by Gangsters

Does it feel like a bunch of gangsters are running this country?

by

Naragan

Photobucket

The most recent act by UMNO to try and kill off Anwar with a lowly sex video moved me to write this article.

Because it increasingly feels like we are living in a country run by GANGSTERS.

What characterizes gangsters?

Is there any difference between what GANGSTERS do and what UMNO is doing?

Use of force, fear, bribes, threats, violence, deceit, unchallengeable positions, indulgence, and parasitic existence and not worrying about appearances would be a reasonable answer to the first question.

To answer the second question “Is there any difference?

I will examine how UMNO performs in many of these dimensions to answer that question.
  1. Force –The Police, the Attorney General’s office, the Courts (I will call them the Unholy Trio from now on) are the instruments of force of UMNO.

You see them figuring prominently in all occasions where UMNO’s lawlessness are questioned.

Being involved with Hindraf Makkal Sakthi, I can tell you that, without batting an eyelid– our people are constantly threatened with detention under ISA, or with charges of sedition, or are charged with being involved in an illegal organization after UMNO unconstitutionally and unlawfully outlawed Hindraf.

The form of force used and the way it is administered may vary in specifics between the gangsters and UMNO but in essence they are the same – UMNO and the gangsters equally resort to force because that is the sole source of their power.

UMNO has lost its moral legitimacy in its claim for power and hangs on to power only because of the control of the instruments of force – the Unholy Trio being the prime instruments.

The gangsters never had moral or legitimate basis for claims to power, their claim to power hinges only on one thing – the use of raw and brutal force.

  2. Fear – UMNO so readily instills fear just like the local gangsters.

UMNO uses the Unholy Trio along with the Media, and when necessary the underworld members to achieve this. The Police have a special unit the Special Branch just for this – the Malaysian Gestapo.

Every so often we see battalions of the Light Strike Force or the Federal Reserve Units to disallow, to disrupt, to frighten off citizen’s gatherings.

You should have seen the hundreds at the anti –Interlok forums throughout the country and the thousands at KLCC for Hindraf’s Solidarity March against UMNO’s racism.

This is exactly what the local gang boss. Putting in the fear of god they say. What the gang boss does is what UMNO is doing.

  3. Threats – The laws enacted by UMNO – ISA, Publishing and Printing Presses Act, Official Secrets Act, Seditions Act, Police Act and even the MACC are all actually devices crafted by UMNO that threaten all those that dare cross the line.

This is the primary purpose of these acts and organizations, though more noble intentions are proffered to legitimize them. But the true intentions of these are to act as a sword over the heads of any that dare.

The Media for its part carries statements from time to time from the Ministers, from the IGP, from the Attorney General, from UMNO stalwarts, from Right wing Perkasa or carries images and reports of the Police overpowering any attempts to challenge them or of right wing demonstrations threatening the rest.

But the purpose is one – to pre-empt potential trouble makers.

The gang bosses just use outright threats, they do not need these more sophisticated devices.

As the saying goes, cut the throat of one chicken in front of all the monkeys so the monkeys will behave themselves. In that sense the devices of threatening may be different but both UMNO and Gangsters use threats to remain in power.

  4. Violence – What happened in Kampung Medan in 2005 is a clear example of the workings of the Unholy Trio, the Media and the underworld in the meting out violence whenever they see a need.

A little further back we had the May 13th riots and May 13th is still a keyword for violence . Hundreds of police killing and maiming continue till today in UMNO’s Police Stations.

The Police in the fore and the Armed Forces at the back are nothing more than UMNO’s killing machines.

The threat of violence that UMNO can unleash, should it decide to, is what holds much of the opposition back. Violence is the bread and butter of gangsters and it is the bread and butter of UMNO.

UMNO and the gangsters understand this very well.

  5. Bribes – When expediency requires and it is wiser, then UMNO bribes to clear their way of trouble makers.

They buy up leaders of groups outside their circle of influence. They make “mafia offers”. They use skeletons in cupboards to assist them, as we see regularly happening in buying up of the opposition members of the legislature. Other forms of bribe, we see at election times.

There is a free flow of gifts, goodies and promises. These are tidbits used to corrupt and remove obstacles or create perceptions while UMNO walks away with the loot – to UMNO these bribes are nothing more than the cost of doing business.

Gangsters for their part use bribes to share their bounty when attempting to get at very large bounties. It is a cost of doing business for them too.

  6. Unchallengeable positions – UMNO’s positions on issues are unchallengeable, just like it is with the local gangster. You challenge at the risk of losing everything.

When you challenge they fight tooth and nail so you do not get what you seek, on the contrary they make you lose further with intense vindictiveness. Case in point is the Interlok novel. The book remains in the curriculum and the rest who voiced dissatisfaction get beaten up and charged in courts for speaking up, but the book remains in the curriculum.

Another clear case in point is what UMNO is doing to Anwar Ibrahim. He gets all kinds of s*** thrown at him and with increasing frequency just because he dares to challenge the UMNOPutras.

Challenge at great personal risk – they will ruin you if they can. Their position must not be challenged. This is very clearly the ways of gangsters too.

The hallmark of a gangleader is one who has overcome all those who have challenged him and anyone who challenges the leader must lose or the leader loses his basis to continue as a leader. Exactly the case with Najib –ala UMNO and UMNO ala the people.

  7. Deceit – “Biji setelor, rio sekampung” as the Malay proverb goes. UMNO throws a tid bit here, a tidbit there and the media steps in and creates perceptions of a totally benevolent and caring UMNO.

UMNO holds the reins of the media tight. UMNO is able to manufacture perceptions in people that are so far removed from the truth that the lies are more real the reality itself. You speak the truth and no one listens to you, for they think you distort, for personal advantage.

UMNO has established monopoly over their minds and UMNO will do with it what they want. They deceive the people and leave the rest of us biting the mud.

UMNO caught between getting the non-Malay votes and increasing their appeal to the Malays use their outsource vehicle,

Perkasa to create a perception of the Malays losing out to the non-Malays because the Malays are split.

The reality is both the Malay And non-Malay people are losing out to the UMNO leaders and their Non-Malay elite accomplices as they use this perception to delude the people and walk off with the loot. No one really listens to this truth, they think it is distorted for personal use. This is a very refined deceit-making machine that we are up against.

On this count UMNO has improved over the gangsters, recognizing they have to operate within a community of nations and have to be seen to be in accord with norms of civilization. They worry about how they will be perceived, they need to legitimize their position, the gangster does not have to.
So, except for this last point there is really not much difference between gangsters running this country and UMNO running this country.

UMNO is nothing short of being dignified gangsters. This truth may look far- fetched, but you think about what I have said, deeply. Just think about it.

If you agree, then do not be the person UMNO, the gangster wants you to be, the meek and powerless person. Look at what is happening in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen.

When all the people get together, the empire crumbles, because the true sovereign is the people united. We have to move out and into the light, to a future based on competence, not on force.

The people have to get out from the grips of gangsters.

"Rahim: Revenge Is Not My Motive, Money Is ... ? I Am A Prostititue ... Hehehe ?""

Revenge Is Not My Motive – Rahim

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Malacca Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik who is one of the trio in exposing the sex video which said to be Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with a prostitute denied that his motive is to take revenge to the Opposition Leader.

Abdul Rahim said, he does not have such motive although Anwar was the one who asked him to resign from Malacca Chief Minister post after his sex scandal with an underage girl. At that time Anwar claimed he was asked by the then Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to do so.

“`I asked Dr. Mahathir did he ask Anwar to tell me to resign but Dr. Mahathir denied. Anwar accused me of being a liability to UMNO at that time and I resigned although the court ruled that I was innocent. My name was cleared through the legal process,” he told a press conference here today.

Abdul Rahim explained the sex video exposure objective is to share the truth with the rakyat on the true colours of Anwar who one day may become the Prime Minister. Let Malaysians make their choice based on facts and not political false allegation and conspiracy like what is happening now.

He added, he just want Anwar to follow his footsteps to resign after a sex scandal and not to continue to lead a political party that has thousands of members.

In 1994, Abdul Rahim was the Vice President of UMNO and was charged in court with raping a 15 year old girl but was proven innocent by the court. Since then he has been away from local politics.

Wan Azizah Wants To See The Clip?

KUALA LUMPUR – One of the trio in the sex video, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah claimed that he recieved a call from a man who told him that the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President, Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail wants to see the video clip in which her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was hving sex with a women believed to be a prostitute.

He who declined to reveal the identity of the caller said he has to reject the request.

“If Wan Azizah want to see the video he has to come and see me. I will not give any copy to anyone, ” he said in a press conference here today.

Shazryl added, he is worried that any copy given to any party will be distributed to the public. Anwar in a press conference in PKR’s headquarters on Monday claimed that he was at home with his family and staff during time the video was recorded on February 21.

Kor Ming calls Harussani's bluff on Datuk T sex video

Kor Ming calls Harussani's bluff on Datuk T sex video

Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming called upon Perak mufti (chief cleric)Harussani Zakaria to make a stand and state the punishment that should be meted out on the three individuals behind 'Datuk T' sex video based on Islamic teachings.

Nga said that as a devout Islamic figure, Harussani should release a press statement on what should be done about the trio who have disseminated pornographic material to the public with the intention of degrading a person’s image.

By doing so, Harussani would ensure that other Muslims would not follow their example.

“Harussani is a mufti who frequently voices out on religious matters even in political issues, so I would like to request his guidance and advice on what should be done now,” Nga told a press conference.

He said now that the three men have come forward and confessed, they should be arrested by the police. The trio are former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Shazryl Eskay, and Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.

Menglembu assemblyman Lim Pek Har, Buntong assemblyman A Sivasubramaniam and Perak DAP secretary Teh Hock Ke were also present at the press conference.

Fitnah and Harussani

The Umno-linked Harussani is known for his controversial views and often comes out to support Umno whenever there is a dispute especially with the Islamist PAS.

Last week, he hit the headlines when he warned the release of some 35,000 controversially impounded Malay-language Bibles could lead to Malay anger and fearsome consequences.

He had said he was “afraid” the community would rise to oppose the ministry’s decision and create further tensions in the country's already tense racial relations.

“I am scared... everything can happen here. People are very unhappy and everything can happen,” Harussani had said to the media. "

"And like I said before, Islam is the official religion, enshrined in the Federal Constitution. So in Islamic practice, the word ‘Allah’ is for the Muslims. Already they question the Malay ‘special rights’ in the Constitution. We have never said anything about the other religions... we do not stop them from doing anything. They act as if this country is a Christian country.”

Christians and other civil society leaders condemned his remarks and called for him to be charged under the Sedition Act.

So far Harussani has maintained a deafening silence on the sex video scandal although fitnah or defamation is a major sin in the Muslim religion. - Malaysia Chronicle

Anwar : Sex Tape Rahim’s Vendetta

KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today claimed revenge had motivated Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik towards orchestrating a sex tape scandal implicating the opposition leader

“The involvement of Rahim Tamby Chik reminds me of his old case and old grudge… of his rape accusations and case where the prosecution papers were signed by (Attorney General Tan Sri) Gani Patail that he was involved with a bribery issue.

In 1994, Abdul Rahim had been charged with statutory rape involving a minor. Although the charge was later dropped by authorities, who cited insufficient evidence, the scandal had cost Abdul Rahim his political career.

“He’s doing this out of revenge,” Anwar said today.

The PKR de facto leader then claimed the police’s shielding of Abdul Rahim and his accomplices suggested a more intricate conspiracy over the sex video.

“They are being protected by the Special Branch. Why is the police protecting them? In this case… because they are Umno leaders, police are ordered to protect them.

“I have said this to the home minister and PM, that they are involved, but they are protecting Umno leaders,” said Anwar.

Abdul Rahim admitted yesterday that businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay, Perkasa’s Datuk Shuib Lazim and himself were collectively the mysterious “Datuk T” behind Monday’s screening of a sex video allegedly featuring Anwar.

The former Malacca chief minister also admitted that both he and Shazryl were behind the video.

He told reporters at a joint press conference together with Shazryl that the trio had chosen to step forward on their own accord because they wanted to show that “a person with high ambitions of wanting to be national leader and prime minister of Malaysia … was not qualified.”

Abdul Rahim and Shazryl both denied the video was doctored. – http://www.themalaysianinsider.com

Video is Rahim’s ‘sweet revenge’

There are so many versions of the story involving the latest video. But that’s not what we want to talk about now. It’s Shazryl Eskay Abdullah we want to talk about.

We have heard the often repeated advice – don’t kill the messenger if the news is bad.

We have to make an exception in the case of the video allegedly starring someone resembling de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim and a China doll.

If it’s not a crime, we have to lynch this Shazryl Eskay guy, the useless piece of worm.

What happens to the meaning of friendship and loyalty?

It’s true what, French author and statesman, Charles de Gaulle said: ‘We have no permanent friends, only permanent interests.’

People like Eskay ( as he is better known) is a walking debit and credit Shylock, who eschews friendship and loyalty 24/7.

He is completely untrustworthy and will sell even his mother.

‘Gargantuan rewards’

Can you believe after having done this odd job for Anwar for so many times, he suddenly has a change in heart, stirred by the pangs of conscience and is now thinking ‘in the interests’ of the nation?

Probably what changed was really the sums of money promised to him or some pledge of gargantuan rewards yet to be known to us.

(Eskay is best known among the media circle as the Johor businessman who is suing the government for rescinding its decision to build the ‘crooked bridge’ linking Johor to Singapore. Eskay, was also allegedlly closely linked to former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad)

So cut the bull, Eskay!

You have benefited from Anwar for so long and have enjoyed the fruits of that friendship and confidence.

That Eskay chose to align himself with Rahim Tamby Chik and Shuib Lazim, whose house is a palace of sorts in Sungai Petani, should be comforting news.

Comforting because none of the sitting leaders have anything to do with this Eskay guy, at least I hope not.

Tit-for-tat

So how can we describe Eskay? In fact, how can Anwar describe and regard Eskay – his onetime procurer of sorts and arranger for peculiar services?

Anwar regarded Eskay as a friend with whom he partied and brought into his home.

What then should anyone in Anwar’s shoes do? In the past, a person like Eskay would have had his head lobbed off.

It’s clear that what the three musketeers, in pursuit of the ‘noble causes’ of the realm, wanted was revenge.

Rahim Thamby Chik (one of the three Datuk T) referred to the order by former deputy prime minister Anwar to resign after it was proven that Rahim had sex with an underaged girl.

Lim Guan Eng went to prison for that.

Rahim is certain that his own trysts were exposed by the dirty works department under the payroll of Anwar.

So Rahim waited and waited and formed his own dirty tricks department with Eskay as his major Domo.

So, it’s not and never was about the nation’s interest that motivated Rahim – it’s his never ending thirst for sweet revenge.

As for Anwar, I reiterate my stand that he is damaged good.

Wan Azizah: I Have No Desire To Watch Sex Video

KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today denied rumours she had asked to watch the sex video allegedly of husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim having sex with an unidentified woman.

“I have no desire to watch the video. I deny vehemently… I do not want to watch this thing.

“I know it’s a fake, so why should I?” the PKR president told reporters today.

Dr Wan Azizah also denied sending any “emissaries” or text messages requesting to view the video.

Yesterday, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik admitted that businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay, Perkasa’s Datuk Shuib Lazim and himself were collectively the mysterious “Datuk T” behind Monday’s screening of a sex video purportedly featuring Anwar.
