Jangan Terperangkap Mitos Undi Melayu pada PAS Jatuh

Nota Editor: Saya mengikuti perjalanan pilihanraya Malaysia sejak 1986 lagi.

June 12, 2010

Jangan makan propaganda Umno-BN, katanya.

PAS Delegate Wants Nik Aziz to Lead Opposition

KOTA BAHARU, 12 JUNE, 2010: One month after the Wanita wing of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) wanted the opposition alliance to be led by the party, a PAS delegate said the party's spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat should be the leader.

A Perlis delegate, Wan Khaisal Wan Khazim said Nik Abdul Aziz deserved to be the leader of the opposition as he led the Kelantan state government for 20 years and his leadership was well received by people of various races.

"He should be the spiritual leader of Pakatan Rakyat," said Wan Khaisal when debating the presidential address at the 56th PAS Muktamar (general assembly) here today.

In PAS' hierarchy, the spiritual leader (mursyidul am) is the highest office as he acts as the party's adviser followed by the deputy spiritual leader and the president.

The loose opposition alliance between PAS, PKR and DAP had yet to decide who should be its leader since its commendable performance in the 2008 general election.

On May 30, addressing the PKR National Congress, PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said the party should lead the opposition as it had the best ideology.

Late last year, PKR Central Leadership Council member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim proposed Nik Abdul Aziz to be the leader or the first chairman of the opposition alliance.

Earlier, PAS Supporters Club secretary K. Deepkaran said PAS should fight for justice in the allocation of funds for Chinese and Tamil schools.

"We want the distribution of scholarships from the Public Service Department to be distributed equally to all races," he said when debating the presidential address as a representative of non-Muslims.

He also proposed that PAS Supporters Club members in the opposition-led states to be appointed as penghulu (village headmen), village security and development (JKKK) committee members and community leaders.

Malay racism is not Islam: Hadi

KOTA BHARU, June 11: Delivering the presidential address at the 56th PAS muktamar today, PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang accused UMNO of causing hardships for Malay-Muslims in the country and tainting Islam's image by advocating Malay racism among Muslims.

Hadi rubbished UMNO's claim of being protector for the Malays, saying the Malay-based party had only brought regression to the community.

"UMNO thumps its chest that it is the saviour of Muslim Malays and that they lead a multiracial country.

"The fact is that UMNO has failed, and instead brings disasters to the Malay-Muslims. It (UMNO) gives the wrong image to the realities of Malaysia's plural society,” said Hadi in his speech themed "Islam Fair to All" this morning.

  • Read full text of his speech here.

Also present during his speech was PKR leader and Parliamentary Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP's Lim Kit Siang and a number of foreign representatives and diplomats.

Hadi said Islam's image in Malaysia had suffered as a result of the failure and injustices brought by UMNO. He also reiterated PAS's commitment to uphold justice and fairness to all irrespective of their race.

'Malays poisoned by UMNO's racism'

The Malay-Muslims, he said, had been poisoned for decades with a narrow understanding of race by UMNO and Barisan Nasional, and as a result many have poor understanding of national politics.

“The political understanding of the Malays has been weakened by this narrow race-based politics over the years," said Hadi.

On the economy, Hadi said an equitable share of the economy had not been achieved as the country’s resources revolved among members of the ruling fraternity.

He said as a result of of UMNO’s failure, PAS must rise up to approach Malays in urban and rural areas, so that they get the right understanding of Islam as a way of life.

Home Ministry looking into MyKad duplication cases

KOTA KINABALU: The Home Ministry is looking into the issue of MyKad duplication in Sabah although the number of cases reported is not serious.

The ministry's secretary-general, Mahmood Adam, said that in Sabah, the issue was not MyKad forgery but there were some cases where one identity card belonged to more than one individual and the original owner could not be determined.

The ministry was conducting an operation to sort out the issue and the relevant authorities had started gathering data on the MyKad owners involved, he told reporters after opening a dialogue on the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 here today.

Mahmood also said that up to this year, the government had spent RM10 billion to produce MyKads since its introduction in 2000.

The highly sophisticated MyKad, which features a smart electronic chip, is among the best identification cards in the world and even well-developed countries like the United States and the United Kingdom do not possess such anadvanced system.

"Over the past 10 years since its introduction, there have been no cases of MyKad chip being forged or the highly sophisticated encryption of the chip being broken," Mahmood said.
He also said that since the announcement in January that 250,000 Malaysians above 12 years old had still not applied for the MyKad, not many had come forth.

"This is a big figure and we are surprised why they haven’t applied. Maybe some of them are abroad or living in remote areas or maybe it's just the attitude. We don't know," he said.

Mahmood said the ministry had taken measures to engage the local community leaders such as village chiefs and longhouse heads and also visited schools to register students who had yet to apply for the MyKad.

Asked if the authorities would consider imposing a fine on those who failed to apply for the MyKad in time, he said such a move would be contradicting the "People First" slogan, and both the community and the government would prefer a friendlier approach.

10MP fails to impress economists

By Stephanie Sta Maria | FMTKUALA LUMPUR: The 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) yesterday came under scrutiny of 3 economists who lauded a acknowledgment of a countrys stumbling blocks though lamented a initiatives to tackle them.At a discourse mutually organized by a Malaysian Economic Association as well as a Faculty of Economics as well as Administration, Universiti Malaya, a trio cited a couple of initiatives which have set off alarm bells in their heads.DAP arch economist, Tony Pua, called a plan tired as well as remarkable which it contains most similarities to past plans. His categorical concern, however, lay with a shadow of a New Economic Policy (NEP) which he pronounced is expel over a 10MP.The NEP characteristic in a 10MP is a 30% Bumiputera quota, which, in fact, was left out of a New Economic Model (NEM), he said. The complaint is not a share itself though a risk which such a share would prevent this community from moving forward because it doesnt heed in between a abounding as well as bad Bumiputera.

If a needs-basis is used instead, afterwards all bad Bumiputera have been positive of assistance. But when you intermix it with a specific share for a single race, a better-off of a race (Bumiputeras) have been means to get a larger chunk of supervision benefits. The PJ Utara MP remarkable which this counterbalance additionally extends to a NEM in conditions of a governments move to enlarge competitiveness, meritocracy, clarity as well as removing worth for money from supervision projects. He questioned either a project will right away be awarded based upon a above-mentioned criteria or upon fulfilling a 30% Bumiputera quota. This is a major quandary which will fool around out throughout a subsequent 5 years as well as affect out mercantile performance, he said. you see a 10MP mirroring a indication of a late 1980s where most mega projects were launched which in conclusion had to be bailed out by a government. If you repeat a same cycle without implementing measures to ! ensure y ou get a most appropriate worth for money from these projects, afterwards you might face another predicament as well as this time a supervision might not have sufficient supports for a bailout. Ive seen most mega projects as well as subsidies being awarded to large corporations this year as well as you dont see a change which a NEM is calling for. Our complaint right away is two-pronged. The initial is implementing everything in a 10MP as well as a second is carrying a political will to enforce those changes. At this point, Im disturbed which a latter is missing as well as you hope to be proven wrong for Malaysias sake.Extremely tall orderFormer senior manager executive for a Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, Professor Mohammad Ariff, zeroed in upon Malaysias aspiration of becoming a high-income nation. According to him, a 6% expansion per annum outlined in a 10MP is an extremely tall order. The 10MP takes us upon a path of achieving Vision 2020, he said. Vision 2020 envisaged which Malaysia would have a per capita income of US$20,000 by 2020 though a monetary predicament strike as well as as well as a manage to buy slowed. Today, you need during least a 7% expansion rate to even reach a US$17,000 per capita income by 2020.The 6% targeted expansion means which investments must grow during 12.5% per annum. But during a Ninth Malaysia Plan, investment expansion usually stood during 2% so this is a outrageous leap as well as Im not sure if a possible.Foreign direct investment (FDI) has usually been flourishing during 1% per annum, which pales in more aged to Chinas 10% as well as Singapores 9%, he added. Our FDI is practically crawling! Its a distant cry from when you were recording 9.1% expansion prior to a Asian monetary crisis. Something is severely wrong here as well as a 10MP should be addressing this.Prof Ariff additionally strike out during a governments fondness for throwing outrageous chunks of supports during a education sector in a hope of boosting it further. He bluntly s! ettled w hich a categorical complaint with a countrys education complement is a serious miss of peculiarity teachers. In Malaysia, being a clergyman is a last review profession, which means there is no passion or interest, he explained. We have to start attracting a most appropriate smarts in to this contention a way China does. And it does which by charity very great monetary rewards. In China, being a clergyman is initial preference because it is a usually contention which provides 100% of salary as pension. This motivates people. In Malaysia, you pay peanuts as well as so you get monkeys.Formidable challengeFor Professor Rajah Rasiah, Dean of a Faculty of Economics as well as Administration, a grant of subsidies presents a challenging challenge. He remarkable which a utility of money will be very tall for a bad as well as very low or nonexistence for a middle-income as well as a wealthy. The 10MP refers to providing next to opportunity, though does it really take which mount in a letter of reference of mechanisms? he asked. Unfortunately, it doesntHe pronounced which whilst a bad will be means to tarry as well as enjoy simple needs, they will not be means to cranky a misery line as well as minister to a countrys mercantile growth. When these people have been out of poverty, they have been means to consider productively as well as experience in a routine of achieving Vision 2020, he opined. But what you currently have is a misallocation of subsidies. Subsidies which have been meant for a bad have been being enjoyed by everyone, both foreigners as well as locals. The diagnosis of amicable gratification here seems to be a single which takes a penny-wise, pound-foolish proceed rather than a single which is dynamic. While he praised a 10MP for recognising a obligatory need to quicken GDP growth, he additionally pronounced which a plan needs larger abyss as well as dynamism in conditions of turning a 10 initiatives in to reality.

Candu Wala Dimain Lagi Dalam Muktamar PAS. Budaya PAS Terengganu Masuk Dalam Ucapan Dasar

Ianya disentuh dalam Ucapan Dasar Presiden. Presiden dilaporkan berkata:

Bukankah Imam Malik sendiri pernah berkata:

Memang inilah seben! arnya bu daya PAS Terengganu. Atas sebab inilah mereka terus menerus menghadapi kekalahan.

Lagi sekali saya katakana, saya tak kesah kalau dilayan seperti sampah.

Umno heroes and ‘Star’ spear Israel

Written by Helen Ang

The third of the Star sallies against Israel on June 6 came from its group editor Wong Chun Wai. Again using the substitution method, we can take for our template what Wong had written about Palestinians and Israel, and re-use the very words from his stinging op-ed to instead express the situation at home. So by simply replacing ‘Palestinians’ and ‘Israel’ with an appropriate local context while maintaining the rest of Wong’s write-up almost in toto, the op-ed penned by Star’s head honcho could have read like the following:
Time to bring the bully to heel

“Just listen to the tone of the language used by the Inspector-General of Police after PDRM shot Aminulrasyid in the back of the head – it’s arrogant, defensive and aggressive. Never mind the fact that the violent assault took place against a 15-year-old boy. It’s a clear violation of standard operating procedure. The police have also ignored that the excessive show of force that left a teenager dead and his same-age passenger beaten up. If the Malaysian public expects remorse and regret, they would have waited in vain; this is not the first time and probably not the last for such a display of arrogance on the part of police. This is a country where the police considers itself above the law. It is untouchable and no one can blame PDRM for being smug when it has been let off with pathetic excuses every time an alleged ‘suspect’ is shot dead.
Thanks in part to Big Brother, Umno, which has made sure that the condemnation is not overly harsh.
There’s not even a squeak from the Prime Minister, who said on Sunday he regretted the incident (which happened Monday a week earlier) but that it was nonetheless unnecessary to call for the IGP to step down. As in previous violations of human rights or to be more precise, the simplest form of human decency, the police see such a slap on the wrist as an encouragement to continue to disregard public opinion. After the usual lame condemnation, the government will move on. Aminul’s death would be swiftly forgotten, including the attack on Kugan, Francis Udayappan and all the rest in police lock-ups, and the same action would take place again, possibly more killings. The PM’s office would dust off their documents and issue the same sounding hypocritical condemnation of such aggression and persuade Malaysians to be soft to Polis Raja di Malaysia, their Umno ally.”

I would ask you to compare the passages above on police brutality with what Wong wrote in The Star about the Israelis. It is the exact same mould, same moral outrage, and same shrill register. But you never hear such tough talk in the mainstream media about what happens here or such brave denunciations against the corrupt institutions and thuggish movements (e.g. Perkasa) propping up Umno, do you? The black hole informing what’s been left unsaid is especially poignant when The Star bills itself as ‘the People’s Paper’; perhaps the self-referential tagline, on that day at least, should have been modified to ‘the Palestinian People’s Paper’. Too bad the Penans aren’t pretty enough. It must be something about those doe-eyed Arabs that brings out the great Malaysian hero, usually so impotent in our own backyard. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Time to bring the bully to heel

(‘On the Beat’ with Wong Chun Wai)

Just listen to the tone of the language used by Israel after its bloody attack on the humanitarian aid ship to Gaza – it’s arrogant, defensive and aggressive.

Never mind the fact that the violent assault took place in international waters. It’s a clear violation of international laws. The Israeli officials have also ignored that the excessive show of force left nine people dead.

If the rest of the world expects remorse and regret, they would have waited in vain; this is not the first time and probably not the last for such a display of arrogance on the part of Israel.

This is a country which clearly considers itself above international laws.

It is untouchable and no one can blame Israel for being smug when it has been let off with a pathetic watered down statement from the UN Security Council.

Thanks in part to Big Brother, the United States, which has made sure that the condemnation is not overly harsh.

There’s not even a squeak from President Barack Obama, who has conveniently made himself busy with the Louisiana oil spill.

As in previous violations of human rights or to be more precise, the simplest form of human decency, the Israelis see such a slap on the wrist as an encouragement to continue to disregard world opinion.

… After the usual global condemnation, the world will move on.

It would be swiftly forgotten, including the attack on the flotilla, and the same action would take place again, possibly more killings. US officials would dust off their documents and issue the same sounding hypocritical condemnation of such aggression and persuade other countries to be soft to their Israeli ally.

10MP injecting cash for KL 'ghost towns'

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid

KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP's chief economist Tony Pua said the plan to develop the Kuala Lumpur financial district as well as other grand construction projects within the area as outlined in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) is a waste of taxpayers' money.

Pua, the Petaling Jaya Utara MP, said this in support of a report by OSK Research which was published in an online news portal that said such investment was likely to create a commercial property glut.

The report said that the redevelopment of Kampung Baru could destabilise the property market around the KLCC area which is already suffering from a high vacancy rate of 17%.

“The temptation to rush into developments without any regard to the supply-demand dynamics can be very hard to resist in economic boom times.

"It will destabilise the entire market and can be calamitous to all market players in the long run,” said the report.

It stated further that the area would suffer from an overabundance of empty office spaces amid an influx of existing but yet-to-come spaces in the coming few years.

"It is very possible that the area would suffer from a property glut... this is typical of the economic framework where the 10MP is relying on the construction factor to push the economy," Pua told FMT.

The "construction factor", meaning injecting money into the economy through infrastructure developments, cannot generate income on its own, said Pua.

"It must coincide with other initiatives or you will end up creating more office spaces but having no one picking them up," he added.

Crony economics ala Mahathir

The redevelopment of Kampung Baru (right), the KL Financial District and the Sungai Besi Airport were unveiled under the 10MP by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in Parliament yesterday.

Pua said the projects reflected Barisan Nasional's bankrupt economic ideas where economic stimulation heavily depended on pump-priming activities.

"This is like what happened under the administration of (then premier) Dr Mahathir Mohamad. It is a simple way of fishing out projects to crony companies."

The first-term MP said much of the promised transparency under Najib's New Economic Model was invalidated by the lack of government assurance that all mega-projects in the plan will be sourced via an open tender process.

Pua argued that the cash should be invested in improving the deplorable education system and industries that ensures healthy competition and economic progress.

As much as RM230 billion will be injected into privatisation-driven activities under the new five-year plan, Najib's first as prime minister.

The sixth premier is facing a stiff test to revive the ailing economy amid opposition to his mass liberalisation efforts by internal and external political foes.

Scholarship issue: Indian parents to rally nationwide

By B Nantha Kumar

KUALA LUMPUR: Unhappy parents of numerous top Indian students in the country have banded together to voice their unhappiness over the lack of scholarships for their children.

Federation of Malaysian Indian Organisations president A Rajaretinam said the parents are from different parts of the country and will gather at various points nationwide to call for the government to offer more scholarships to Indian students.

“The scholarship issue is not new. Every year we get parents whose children have scored 9As complaining that they don’t get scholarships when their Malay classmates who have secured 2As are awarded government aid.

“This is truly unfair and unjust,” he said.

He said if the government refused to give them an answer soon ,then the community will take to the streets to demand their rights.

He said last year the Public Service Department gave away 2,000 scholarship. This year they had reduced it to 1,500.

“We understand the economic situation and you have to reduce the scholarships but don’t use the non-Malay community as a scapegoat. It is unfair that they maintained the Malay quota for scholarships and slashed the non-Malay quota,” he said.

Rajaretinam said their first rally will be a peaceful gathering in front of Parliament on June 15 to demand that the government return all of the balance 600 scholarship to the non-Malay community.

“It is not just the Indian students, there are also poor Chinese students who need the scholarships.

“We will rally in Parliament on June 15 at 10.30am and wake the government up.

“The government has been sleeping on the scholarship issue simply because we are Indians,” he said.

Meanwhile Senator Dr S Ramakrishnan slammed the government today for reducing the non-Malay quota on scholarships following its win in Hulu Selangor.

In a press statement, he said after Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 2008 general election, the government had increased the scholarship numbers to 900 for non-Malay students.

“Indian were very happy with the government’s decision. Then BN won the Hulu Selangor by-election. Now there are only 300 scholarships to fight for.

“This is Umno’s way. If Umno loses, the people get everything. But if Umno wins, the contrary happens.

“There is now only one road for the Indians, unite and stand your ground no matter which party. We must fight for our right,” he said.

Karpal acquitted of sedition charge

(The Malaysian Insider) - DAP chairman Karpal Singh was cleared of sedition today without his defence being called.

In his decision today, judge Azman Abdullah noted that the news reporters, key witnesses and police involved did not understand English and the meaning of sedition.

Understanding abuse of power and the ultimate perpetrators

The People's Parliament

First, understand that all power is rooted in the Federal Constitution. Without exception.

And stripped of all the fancy words, power in the constitution is vested with us.

Yes, us, the rakyat.

Makkal Sakhti.

People power.

That power vested in us is exercised through the vote.

We pick representatives to sit in Parliament and the state assemblies to device national and state policies, pass necessary national and state laws and set up national and state bodies and agencies and government departments to give effect to and implement those policies.

We used to have one more vote, that is, the choice of local councillors, but that was taken away from us formally in the 70s’.

Now as those bodies, agencies and departments are created, so too, they are given powers with a view to carry through objectives set out within the framework of the policies that have been set.

And these powers that are conferred are further delegated by superiors within those bodies, agencies and departments, to their subordinates, again, to implement and enforce policies set and laws passed.

What we finally end up with is a wide network of bodies, agencies and departments and their officers, wielding an array of powers, to carry through policies and laws, approved of and passed by our representatives.

Those powers, when exercised, must be for the purpose and objective for which they were conferred, and no other.

This must be strictly adhered to.

PAS to allow non-Muslims to use its symbol to contest in general election

PAS to allow non-Muslims to use its symbol to contest in general election

6/10/2010

(Bernama) - PAS will allow non-Muslim candidates contesting on a PAS ticket to use the party symbol in the next general election, but with conditions.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the move was approved by its Ulama Council to enable those who joined the PAS Supporters Club (Dewan Himpunan Penyokong PAS), to contest in the general election.

"We will impose conditions on non-Muslims contesting under PAS. First, they must accept PAS' policy and struggle, and second, they must have high morality," he told reporters after opening PAS' 56th muktamar here Friday.

He said this was the first time the party was allowing non-Muslims to contest under its banner in efforts to bring the non-Muslims closer to the Islamic mission.

He added that to prevent non-Muslims who contested on a PAS ticket from switching parties, they were also required to make a loyalty pledge to the party.

PAS had its own mechanism to ensure its assemblymen and members of Parliament did not switch parties, he added.

He also said that the move was not intended to sideline the other component parties of the opposition alliance, including the DAP and PKR, because the two parties also had non-Muslim members and leaders.

"They understand what PAS is doing. PAS' objective is to show true fairness in Islam."

He said PAS would field non-Muslim candidates in areas with non-Muslim majority and there would be no overlapping of constituencies to be contested by the component parties.

Ibrahim Ali: I don't give a damn about MCA

By Stephanie Sta Maria, Free Malaysia Today

KUALA LUMPUR: Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali has scoffed at an earlier statement by MCA that Perkasa's racial espousals may have inadvertently contributed to the recent attack on a Selayang municipal councillor and his assistant.

“I don't give a damn about MCA,” he said. “It is just capitalising on this unfortunate incident to gain political mileage and portray themselves as champions of the Chinese. In fact, I would like to congratulate MCA for defending DAP since the Selayang councillor is a DAP member.”

Some 50 individuals, wearing T-shirts bearing the Perkasa logo, assaulted Lim Ching How and his assistant Mohd Zuhudi Ahmad on Wednesday because of a dispute over the issuance of a land use permit to a charity organisation.

Ibrahim said that a check within Perkasa has not revealed the alleged assailants to be among its members.

“Perkasa T-shirts are available to anyone,” he told FMT. “Perkasa doesn't condone violence nor allow its members to take part in violent activities. Violence is not our policy.”

Bumiputera equity to stay at 30%

(The Star) - THE target of attaining at least 30% bumiputra corporate equity ownership at macro level remains but genuine economic participation will be promoted.

The participation will be promoted by strengthening bumiputra entrepreneurship in high-impact sectors, increasing wealth ownership beyond corporate equity to other properties and business assets and promoting bumiputra representation in high paying jobs.

The overall bumiputra development agenda will continue to be a major thrust in the national economic policy with improved strategies to establish broad-based and sustainable economic participation from the community.

Under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), the target of attaining at least 30% bumiputra corporate equity ownership at macro level will be maintained.

However, the focus will be on promoting genuine economic participation, consistent with the objective of sustainable high growth rather than corporate equity allocation.
And genuine economic participation would be achieved via transparent and merit-based instruments which will focus on three fronts - strengthening bumiputra entrepreneurship in high-impact sectors, increasing wealth ownership beyond corporate equity to other properties and business assets, and promoting bumiputra representation in high paying jobs.

Currently, the bumiputra median household income of RM2,531 in 2009 is lower than the national median income of RM2,830 and bumiputra ownership of share capital (at par value) of limited companies had increased marginally from 18.9% in 2004 to 21.9% in 2008.

In order to strengthen bumiputra entrepreneurship, the Government will provide assistance through funding, support services and implementation agencies according to their categories.
To create stronger and more competitive industry champions, Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas) will receive an RM4.5bil allocation and raise additional funding from the private sector to undertake investments in growth stage companies.

Such investments will be the buy-outs of non-core assets of government-linked companies, multi-national companies and public listed companies, buy-outs of suitable Malaysian companies where existing shareholders are exiting and investments in existing strong bumiputra companies to accelerate growth.

The 10MP will also adopt a demand-driven approach to catalyse businesses in high value-added activities, whereby high potential areas such as animal fat substitutes (halal industry) and oil recovery technologies will be identified.

The Government will allocate funding and invite the private sector to bid for the rights to the ventures, and divest its equity to the management team and bumiputra institutions over time.
