PETALING JAYA: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar expressed surprise when she heard that PKR supreme council member Zaid Ibrahim is willing to pull out from the race for the deputy president post if she decides to contest for it.
She described the latest development as “news to her”.
In a text message to FMT, Nurul also said she will need to discuss the matter with several quarters before making an official statement.
“All this is news to me. I need to consult the ground as well as party elders before making my official statement,” Nurul said in her text message.
Earlier at a press conference this morning, Zaid said that he is willing to withdraw from the deputy presidential race if Nurul decided to go for the seat, which is also eyed by another PKR strongman, party vice-president Azmin Ali.
Zaid, a former law minister, added that he will also support Nurul's bid should she join the fray, describing her as dynamic, professional and outspoken.
However, Nurul had only expressed interest to vie for a vice-president slot despite receiving two nominations for the number two spot.
